The End of Colonialism: Why Britain Had to Leave India and Other British Colonies

  • I live in a small village in the second most populous country in the world. A country that once used to be the biggest cash cow for the British Empire. It endured the horrors of colonialism for almost 200 years. And when finally it got freedom on 15th August 1947. Most of the credit went to this Mr. Gandhi.
But that was 75 years, 8 months, and 27 days ago. Today If you ask Indians, who is the real hero of the Indian freedom struggle, they seem largely divided. Even political parties have divided Indian freedom fighters among themselves. Some credit the aggressive nationalists and some say it was Gandhi’s non-violence but they couldn’t be more wrong. The reality was way different.
Britain’s decision to leave India was driven by a combination of domestic and international factors, including the growing nationalist movement in India, the economic cost of maintaining British rule, growing global opposition to colonialism, and Britain’s rapidly diminishing global political and economic influence after World War 2. Here are the 3 lesser-known reasons why Britain had no choice but to leave India.

I disagree. It were Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his INA, that put the fear of God in the British and forced them to leave India.

Out of all the nations Britain colonialized like America,Canada NZ and Australia India dos'nt have one large single white British Christian community throughout the whole country?, and as with all the aforementioned above India still retains all its languages cultures, heritages religions, way of life and even their beloved caste system, so how can anybody call that colonialism and twin it with America or Australia (etc)but who's natives also still retain all theirs to, the only difference is they do have white European settlers aswell to this day that coincidentally progressed into a 1st world thriving powerful, economical nations ?!, , if anything india should be labelled as imperialism....

Are you really unaware that Britain abandoned mercantilism and adopted free trade in the 19th century?
There are an awful lot of RUclips videos claiming that India was a cash cow for Britain, but I don’t think most economic historians today would agree with that.
