I actually learned about the Globetrotters when I watched the cartoon back in the 1970s. Meadowlark was such a down to earth gentleman and an excellent influence on kids back in those days. One of a kind! God rest him n peace.
It was the highlight of my childhood in the late 60's when he came to town in Cincinnati. Nearly the entire audience was white, but not a single kid saw the Globetrotters as black.
Back then, even overseas where basketball wasn't a thing and we still only had 2 tv channels we knew the Harlem globetrotters, even without much footage exposure.
I saw him, Curly, and Marques perform. Just wish I can remember the last two. What a performance the put on. Think this was the only time I saw tears from my dad cause he was laughing just as hard because of ML.
I saw Mr Lemon at a grocery store in the mid 1990s and I stared at him and he looked at me and I thought that's Meadlowlark Lemon but didn't have the nerve to go up to him and say hello. 10 years later at a convenience store at the same corner I saw Charles Barkley who I am also a huge fan of and didn't want to miss my chance to say hello so I ran up to him as he was getting in his Hummer which startled him a bit until I said im a big fan. Nice guy Charles was once he realized I wasn't a weirdo lol. Around that same time a few miles away I saw Jeff Hornaceck shopping and soon after Cotton Fitzsimmons who I didn't have the nerve to talk to either. ugh I figure if they stopped and talked to every fan they wouldn't have time for anything else. Really wish I would have said hello to Meadowlark though.
Dude... I had a book as a kid that talked about their early days with Coach Abe Saperstein way back and the racism they encountered while playing games in places like swimming pools. I don't think a Globetrotter movie could cut it. I think a series would be, with all due respect, more appropriate. There's just too much material for just a movie. But damn! You hit the nail on the head about the story needing to be told!!!!

Meadowlark actually started with the Globetrotters in 1954, not 1957.
