This method has been around as long as I can remember. It’s just as useful now as it was then. Bravo for sharing techniques that are tried and true. That’s how we pass the craft on to the next generation 👍
Thank you, this is a great addition to any palm router. One tip...instead of that music, I would prefer to hear you explain what you were doing and why. 👍
One of those edge rollers is probably closer to the center of the bit than the other one causing it to be a bit off center. Easy enough to fix, by like you said, making one of them adjustable. Great overall design.
Hey Mike, GREAT router base design. You have inspired me to add this to my project list. I think that if you can find to "centering pins" that are longer then the router bit, you would have an easier time starting your cut and registering to your work piece. I don't think it really matters that the centering "pins" are wheels. There is so little friction in this activity it wouldn't matter. Thanks for the video!
Now if you have gone to purchase plexiglass recently it’s not cheap. I learned I can buy this base nearly for half of getting everything to make this 😩. I tried. Great idea and great info. I guess it depends on what you want to do
That's a very clever idea Mike. I have the Dewalt PK611 with the plunge base. If I could come up with a way to adjust it from the top of the insert, that would be a very useful tool in my small shop.
I just made a couple bases for several routers using 1/4” plexy glass. I now have a 12”x12” x1/2” piece of plexiglass but haven’t made it into a base yet. Trying to avoid sagging in wide routs. If ya know what I mean.
Looks like someone routed the top of your hair out! Lol I’m just messin with ya! Seriously though I love palm routers In today’s world they carry power high enough to do most tasks, even if it takes a few more passes than a big model it still represents the compact life leaving a half less mess which balances the time spent on extra passes is less clean up time. Well done my man
This is a great design. Its been 2 years now, any feedback or improvements you would make? I just ordered my Plexiglass this week. Planning on using a more permanent plate for fixed base router and a smaller palm router design dedicated to round overs in the table and able to remove like yours when needed. So 2 routers in my table saw wing. Love the ideas. Any improvements or changes you'd make? How is the pexi holding up?
Definitely gotta love the big boy routers I’ve been reviewing big ones for about 2 years. I’m always looking for the most horses (Milwaukee 3.5) but it is not very compatible. I think the PC 3.25 is a sure shot then u have Porta mate for $ saving. But recently I cam across Jessems new side kick for its new table set up That is where I’m leaning. In the big boy department but I definitely love your setup DO YOU HAVE A SMALL SHOP? Where are you LOCATED?
Awesome design. Wanted a sub-base for my Dewalt compact router and think I will incorporate many of your ideas. What if you replaced the short pins on the centering jig with something longer, maybe a second starting pin or even longer? I have the plunge base so that will help with that type of centering cut. I also like how you mounted it in the worktop. The edge glued plywood top looks cool. How well has that held up? Still looks newish. Thanks again
Hey Mike, thanks for the video. Question: is it save to operate it in the table without the plate being screwed or somehow fixed to the table? Cheers, Peter
Thanks. I built a couple of bases 1/4” thick and have had no issues either but I bought a piece of 1/2” so I’ll probably try it with one of my routers. I didn’t even think, I could just drill holes to accommodate both routers.
@@mfwoodshop Thanks for the reply, I would the using the same template guides you used and listed in the Video Ref Supplies section so I would imagine the bits you deployed would be identical ... Im in Ireland but can order everything online. Thanks in advance
Mike I have a bosch 1617 router will .25 Plexiglas work for table mounting or would I need .375 in either Plexiglas or Lexan (Lexan is supposedly 30 times stronger) Thanks in advance for any help you might provide
You could turn your own on a wood lathe and use a metal threaded insert, or just get a 7/8" dowel, and a couple of motorcycle hand grips. if you are building the base you might as well be able to say "I build all of it" . LOL.
Thanks for the input, but time is a big factor to that. When/if time free up I’ll put more effect in to voice overs. I also feel that most of my project are pretty much self explanatory. I also answer every comment to one extent or the other. I do that for those questions I didn’t or forgot to address in the summary part of the video. For now this format works for me.
Best one I've seen yet. I like how it can go from freehand router to a router table without even removing the plate
Thanks

Just getting back into woodworking after a long lapse. Find that this will be extremely useful. Thank you!
Thanks, it’s a good addition

Thanks for the feed back
Great design, this is just what I’ve been looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you like it!

Good point, thanks
This router base is really impressive! It's one of the best I've ever seen. Easy to make and useful! Bravo👍👏💖
Thank you very much!

This is by far the best design I've seen! And you still going to tweak it! 😳😳🤓🧐🤔😁✌😷Great video Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like it!
Awesome design Mike. Such a great multi use router base. Take Care
Thanks Thom
Brilliant design and a crisp video and narration.
Thank you
Pretty cool Mike! I really like how you incorporated in your work table. Great idea!
Thanks Guy
Ingenious! You are making a pretty strong case for me to get a palm router!
Thanks I use mine all the time
looks great, thank you for sharing your process. also, good choice of music :)
Thank you! Cheers!
Great design, Mike
Thanks Charlie
Well thouight out & nicely executed Mike!
Thank you
Sweet design! This will be on my list for a shop project!
And thank you so much for using different music!
Thanks, I’ll try to mix it up a little for ya

Simple and efficient. I really like it and seriousely considering modifying my router table to do something similar like yours. Great work Mike!
Thanks Eric

Ya that’s a big drawback to mine, but the whole thing is light weight and very easy to just lift out and do what needs to be done

I do I using 1/4" as well
Great design. Will give this a try.
thanks
I like that one. Some good thinking in the design.
Thanks Jim
Awesome work Mike, great design! 👍👊
Thanks Fred
Hi great idea. Do you have a plan available for this.
Sorry, no plans
This is fantastic, Mike!!
Thank you it works pretty well

Ya, I do almost everything with a palm router. But when you need it you gotta love the big router
I like the recess magnet plate
Great idea Mike
Thanks Frank
only one of your pins were against the wood for the center cut. look at video
its a tricky cut for sure
genius! dual purpose!
thank you Tom

My router fell out of it and broke, so I didn't even use it much. Not the designs fault it was mine for not locking my router in.
Genius!
Thanks
Excellent!
Glad you liked it!

DO YOU HAVE A SMALL SHOP?
Where are you LOCATED?
Work out of my garage I’m in Indiana. I have a PC 1.5horse I use it when needed
what are the measurements of the acrylic
6" x 12" might be better a pitch smaller 5"x10"
Just increase the diameter of one of those rollers. Heat shrink should do it, maybe 2 or 3 layers.
Ya good idea

its your shop do what you want. plate is not screwed down. Most plate not screwed down.
Just curious how thick is your base and is it plexy glass
1/4" is mine. I using a small router with no issues

Fantastic the fighting hare
.
meant to add also, what are the diameters of both forstner bits you used to recess the centre hole to house the template guides? Many Thanks
Not sure it might be different for the bushing you use.

Great design, about the thickness of the acrylic, is 6 mm?
Ya 1/4”

Stronger the better, the less flex you get the better the cuts will be
Looks good. What is the threaded fitting for the pins?
For a starter pin
@@mfwoodshop Thanks Michael, What did you use to get a thread in the acrylic?
Nice one! :)
Thanks
Nice design good job where did you get the handles
Link is in the description, rockers

Cool! great video!
Thank you
How thick is the baseplate? Does it flex at atll?
1/4" no
very nice. did you do something to the power plug. looks very interesting.
Ya look back about a year I did a whole video on it
what are the dimensions of the base?
You can make it what ever you want. Mine was 12”x8”
Yo dawg I heard you like router bases. So I routed you a router base with my router so you can use your router to route more router bases.
Nothing like routering router bases
Instead of playing music which to me is very obnoxious do a talk over and explain what you are doing?
