- So...I'm back in the city everyone told me to leave.
Listen, I LOVE PHILLY. It truly feels like home, BUT I also know a red flag when I see one.
In my last apartment hunting video, literally ERBODY told me to run for the hills before signing up to live here. From crime to traffic to shady landlords and half-baked construction jobs, y'all gave me a LAUNDRY LIST of reasons to just go look elsewhere.
Soooooo, why am I here again?
A whole journey (that I'll catch you up on later) ensued after moving from Phoenix. Through that journey I learned not to rush into signing a lease. If it takes me a MONTHS to search for a solid apartment...so be it.
Also, I realized that there are neighborhoods in Philly that I actually like more than others. Being close to Fairmount park would actually feed me more than being with the "cool" kids in Fishtown.
I took all that I learned with me, while also checking out (for funsies) options that I already knew I ain't want back to Philly.
So, buckle in. We are back with Philly apartment hunting...PART 2!

Believe it or not, in Philly, it's cheaper to rent out a house than it is an apartment.
For the same price as some of these 1 or 2 bedroom apartments, I can get a 3 to 4 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood.

I’ve had a few apartment tours where they didn’t really speak or show me anything, just had me looking around. Seemed like they assumed I couldn’t afford it or I was wasting their time 🙃They think I would waste my own time to come here with no intentions??? Laughable

One thing i've learned is people don't read 😂 so that paranthesis? People were already typing comments before they reached that part of the sentence. Unfortunately the people you are patiently explaining your POV to are also the people who are least likely to listen. That's why they left those comments in the first place! 😂

do too. I live in a area in Philly where children can walk home from school alone etc.. (Low crime area). So yesss there are nice neighborhoods here. I hate how Philadelphians always try to make our city to seem like a burnt out place. Like Philly is a historic city🙌🏾🙌🏾

As somebody in a similar situation to you (not from Philly but grew up in close vicinity to Philly and visited often) I’ve been living in Philly for 7 years and it’s not as deep as people make it out to be in North. Crazy stuff does happen but for the most part as long as you mind your business and keep your head down and don’t hang around in areas you’re unfamiliar with it won’t affect you. The only thing I’ve actually encountered that’s as bad as people say is the cars being stolen/ broken into/ vandalized/ etc.
I grew up in north & Germantown before moving to Virginia at 9 and I’ve always been back and forth but it is crazy stuff that happens even if it isn’t crazy seeing crackheads & junkies everyday is normal which shouldn’t be normal , my sister almost seen someone get shot and my dad got his car stolen while my sister was in the backseat she’s 10 and she was taking a nap as he went in the store so she pretty much got kidnapped but luckily she was ok overall Ik people care about will and just don’t want him to be in any unnecessary situations

There's some nice places in the surrounding burbs. Lansdale, North Wales, Ardmore, Lafayette Hill, Jenkintown, Germantown...❤😂 I grew up in Philly, you couldn't pay me to move back.

That’s also why I’m never on social media. Only thing I have is Instagram (I only watch videos on RUclips) I took notice that social media was dampening my experiences and making me feel terrible about myself. So I took a permanent break and pop in like once every 3-4 months 😂 it’s great

Will, I love your editing! Mr. Charlie reminds me of my worst apartment tour. Took me to a unit that was mid renovation and didn't explain anything about it. It was so gross, like the toilet actively full. 🤢 I managed to find an apartment literally by driving around and finding an apartment that was holding an open house that day.
Edit: I audibly gasped at the gas stove in the pirate apartment! I hate electric stoves so much.
As someone that is considering moving to Philly next year, this was helpful. And like you, I love Philly. As a Baltimore girl living in the DMV now, the bad parts of Philly don’t phase me at all. I call Philly Baltimore’s big brother than went to college. Very similar cities with Philly being slightly more vibrant and polished.

Brewerytown is North Philly! I’ve lived here all of my life and the name of the area was north Philly until 2006 or 2007 when the neighborhood began to be gentrified.

I live in Philly and I do agree that this city is rough but I also agree with literally every positive point you made. While I’m am working tirelessly to make sure this is my past winter I this city, I will miss it. This city is beautiful and had a huge impact on my development as a woman. North Philly is the valley of the shadow of death tho, truly 😂.

Philly has a great quality of life for the price (at least where I live) but in the past few years housing prices have skyrocketed and it is not a game out there!
