The Puma name has been revived for Ford’s latest small SUV, which has irked some fans of the 90s coupe that wore the badge first. But with an unmistakable design, a raised ride-height, sporty driving dynamics and frugal petrol engines, the latest Puma has plenty to offer. Should you pick one over rival models such as the Renault Captur or Peugeot 2008? Nicola Hume delivers the Carbuyer verdict.

Wow that's the first video of yours I've seen. Fabulous job, informative and professional. May we see many more
Glad you liked it, Lewis. Many more to come!
Nice car. Prefer this over the facelift!
Cars are just becoming less interesting. Atleast in the 80s and 90s they had soul todays cars all look bland and boring
Regulations. They have to be certain sizes and shapes. The engines are heavily regulated. Seats have to meet standards... list goes on. The worst part is, many countries have different rules and regs. So a manufacturer has to meet all of these, to be able to sell on a global market.
Cars manufacturers could go crazy with design back in the day. Almost like artists at one point.. now, they can't do that.
Designed with a wind tunnel and a computer now I’d imagine
Wow I really like this girl! Bucket loads of personality, interesting opinions and angles, and she connects with the audience. She certainly did with me. Breath of fresh air, keep it up, and more please! Nice car too
Wow, thank you!
STALKER
She is better reviewing cars... So keep her as the main reviewer
And she is easy on the eye
I bought it two days ago. it is very attractive, have good specs and likes to move eagerly 👍
Why do so many video car reviews use the top spec model which usually sells the least? Test the one that’s likely to be the choice of the most buyers.
This!
The editing is SO ANNOYING!!!! Just look at us when you're talking, not off to the 'other' camera! Grrrr
Lol first world problems, has your mummy not to be rude
In the words of Preach from 'Aba & Preach':
Who are you talking to?!
FFS LOOK AT THE CAMERA!
She is numpty
Nothing better than viewing the side of a presenters head whilst they talk to another camera. C’mon CarBuyer sort it out.
Yes please
it rly is not a big deal. Can't u just ignore it?
I can ignore it, but it does the presenter an injustice. She is capable of entertaining us without the editors trying to be fancy. Constructive feedback = better videos.
@@wayfaringcookie8142 I see ur point and tbh I don't think Carbuyer is ever going to be good as Carwow but it is slowly but surely getting slightly better as the years go on...
@@georgedowns4034 It's possible. Autotrader used to be non existant on RUclips and turned it around in about a year. But I don't think carbuyer has found the formula yet. This is not it.
We own a Puma Titanium X First Edition in metropolitan white 125hp mild hybrid here in Holland. It has all the kit you want. It's a nice smal family car. We love the big washable boot space and the washable seat covers, specially with kids. We think it's a smart car to buy. We're really happy with it.
why is this review months late compared to other review channels ???
Don’t know about Puma but I like the couger
Ahhhh I saw what you did there.
@@Akimfalkoff cheers mate could not ask for a better compliment, good lad.
@@testtester2911 Ahhhh I see what you did there again.
I came for this comment, not dor the car! 😆
🤣😂
There is way too much fluff in this video that it's actually distracted from the car. You talk about the interior for a good 3 minutes but you were so obsessed with showing off fancy close-up camera work, that you actually did not show how the front interior actually looks. How?
Not keen on the overuse of looking away from the camera but a good review and reviewer otherwise
For me, the real deal breaker on any car trying to be an SUV is the lack of four wheel drive. If I buy a taller car, some of the point is being able to go a bit off road, and while these things might take me further than a regular car, they'll soon get stuck...
I live in the north of Norway btw. Not lacking slippery climbs in the winter...
Absolutely.
Honda CR-V would trump the new Puma on this point alone.
Stating his or her height on interior review will be helpful
I was all set to go for the ST Viginale auto, as from the many reviews it ticked all the boxes i.e. performance on the 155 bhp engine which also has plenty of torque, good handling, high spec and a decent size boot for a small car as well as good looks. However when I went to my local Ford dealership, I was put off by the driving position no matter how I played around with the seats and steering wheel I couldn't get the driving position I was comfortable with. I'm, average size 5'10 and not fat or slim but somehow I think Ford have missed out here. A shame as I really wanted to like the car, but unfortunately I'm still looking.
Never Buy any Fords
They are rubbish vehicles and more over their service is really bad.
Purchased a brand new Puma. After 1900 miles the clutch goes !!!!!. No replacement vehicle was given and was charged £989 for a clutch . How terrible is that. May be tgg be they should learn from Kia and other Far East car manufacturers. Shame shame to FORD.
i've had a licence for over 40 years. The standard advice back then was never to buy a Ford and nothing seems to have changed. Just as well I probably can't afford a Puma.
Great video but as for Ford re-marketing the spare wheel space as extra storage is stretching it a bit! Having had a tyre blow out on the side of the busy A27 which couldn’t be repaired with the obligatory tin of tyreweld my preference is for a spare tyre and not somewhere to store my golf clubs vertically!
Mine has a spare tyre and still got the box!
Oh god they're doing the "so cool" thing where they look at the imaginary camera off to the side somewhere.
🤣
It's so bad.
And that will immediately change your view of the car...??
@@ZerokillerOppel1 no idea she's so annoying I just scrolled past
@@ZerokillerOppel1 No, It'll immediately change my mind about watching the rest of the video.
who tf chose the music in this video - its not 2012 dubstep bruh
I honestly wish they'd replace the Ecosport with the Puma in the US. Badly wanted the new Focus hatchback here but I would concede to a "crossover" if it looked like that.
i love my 1.5 petrol ecosport titanium auto . 2016 model . wont buy a belt in oil 1 ltr ,
Carbuyer just watch a review from your own channel from the Matt Watson and Rebecca Jackson era and just do that again, simple informative and entertaining reviews. I find the new editing and style annoying imo :(
Agree. Keep it simple
Matt Watson is on carwow not carbuyer
@@stuartselkirk7581 he used to work for Carbuyer ... !
What’s happened to the massaging seats, the puma was fitted with these before but don’t see anybody mentioning them?
A good and fast presentation! I noticed you' ve also covered (in 3 words!) the introduction of the new CVT7/mHev. Indeed, it was a very "compressed" description of PUMA. Not that you missed some important points but I would enjoy it being more analytical!
YOURE VERY GOOD REVIEWER...IM FROM GREECE AND I UNDERSTOOD YOUR CLEAR ENGLISH PERFECT!
Wow, thanks!
Another great review, I really like this car, Ford have done well. However all u on line reviewers need to stop calling it an SUV, the focus and even the Sandera stepway has better ground clearance! Call it wat is it, its its hatch back car, its just a new model of fiesta.
Sorry the camera angle on these reviews is just frustrating and so is the presenter. She would be more suited for a telesales channel rather than reviewing cars
Shocking that Ford is till introducing new models of car with Diesel engines. Have they not read the literature on air pollution? Or don’t they care?
She is a very watchable presenter. I've been ignoring anything Ford for years ever since the Focus Mk 1 disappeared. Now I might look out for them again thanks to this video.
Unlikely video from carbuyer.
Messy and complicated video editing. Too much contrasting sound effects. Disappointed
I only looked this car up to find that Steve McQueen ad - Ive had no interest in this car, or Fords - I am amazed to find that the stubby little coupé it was, is now a stubby little SUV ... WTF?!
No reverse camera what a let down.
Why the odd camera angles? Please look at the camera, viewers are not over to one side!
didn't say much about the infotainment system, that's pretty important nowadays
so the 1.0 cc in 3 ciliders on Puma is better than the 1.33 cc 4 ciliders on the Arkana ...yeah...sure...women and cars ...
Yeah, not sure what this stupid 'trying to be cool' not looking at the camera business is, but it's just stupid. Please just look at the camera!!
Stop with the fish eye lens.
i have Reanult Capture i thing is better than Puma
We'd agree. The Renault Captur is our favourite small SUV at the moment.
@@carbuyer Puma is way better than Captur
Rented a Ford Puma a few months ago for a week. Absolute rubbish and so cheaply put together...
For good sake stop all these commercials popping up during the review, it a real pain to view your reviews.
It looks better than that turd Ecosport. Then again what doesn't?
In this day and age heated seats and steering wheel should be standard on all trim levels...
Why do you need those? Get real!
@@leemingmerlin Because in some countries its freezing cold in winter...
Good presenting. Drain plug in the boot well forgotten?
You were robbed if you paid for acting lessons...
What a nice women. Back my car and give me this women
It's a good job they didn't have a ST injection version or diesel...
STi
STd😂
You Couldn’t Advertise . TOILET PAPER. P.S. GO TO SPEC’SAVERS. ASAP
Looks like a porsche cayenne
Noticed that too, no bad thing apart from it being a Ford.
sells very slowly here, but it sells. Ford lowered its price already but you'll see them not too much riding. I personally like the car. If I needed urgently a new car I would do the Titanium in dark blue. Nice finished and good quality Ford. They could do a STRIPE like they do with the Mustang. It is simple a VW Golf costs 3000 euros more.
Changed my Focus ST MK 4 for this new Puma.....Massive mistake, cheap, it’s a fiesta. The petrol engine too thirst. Not practice and lacking many ideas inside. Plastic everywhere.
What was wrong with the Focus ST? I'm so sad that Ford USA is not selling the Mk4 Focus ST here in the states. I really want to buy one for my next car but it's not on the market :(
My 125ps gets 52mpg!! Maybe you drive like a scalded cat all the time in sport mode!
❤️😎✌️👍# beautiful FORD PUMA made in Romania 🇷🇴❤️
Vignale is pronounced with a silent 'G'. Vin_yah_lee.
All Fords are part electric now (hybrid) - not worth buying.
I bought the ST-X about 6 months ago. Great car, really nice to drive and decent amount of toys. The self park is actually really good (my street is parallel parking only)
Couldn't agree more! The self-parking tech is like witchcraft!
@@carbuyer I only use it when I look at a space and think 'the car can fit in there, I just can't do it' and as if by magic, self parking sorts it :)
@@graemeq613 How is your experience ith the car so far ?
Is it still good after 2 years
I'd say yes. We don't have ours any more (purely due to the company car offering and cost) but we've an Evoque now and the Puma is a far better car
Puma looks great in grey, nice.
It does! Even better in the metal, we think.
Really love the look of these and after watching this review have test driven a 1 litre MHEV ST line X really great an was surprised how effortless and fun to drive it was. Not 100% sure I’d swap my Boxster S for it but it came very close
Our second is on the way. St Line to ST Line X. Left a Mk8 Fiesta ST for our current model and very happy with it. Does all you need. No slouch, and loads of space.
Completely agree with abz7183. This girl is a fantastic presenter, but these cars have been out for a long time. Get in there first and destroy wally from Walsall on Carwow.
I struggle with why anyone would buy the Vignale trim
And to those complain about the cutaways....chill
Can we have future vids facing the camera 🧐
Doesn’t look SUV for me. It’s a hatchback.
I really like your reviews but it seems you’re reviewing cars weeks after other channels have already done them.
Hi there, sorry these are a bit delayed. We were up against it with lockdown restrictions last year, but we're churning through the cars to make up lost time!
@@carbuyer yes but carwow/auto trader... They cope up you should try too, and leave the woman to review the cars she's better
Nice enough, but for a similar price you can buy a Kia Niro Hybrid which is bigger and better. My 3 version has leather upholstery, and almost every available extra, what's more it is averaging 57mpg
Vin-Ya-Lay the G is silent
Is she Ant Anstead sister ? ..... very similar mannerisms or is it me
The "2021" in the title is an overstatement since the car is on the roads since 2020. The marketing lie called "model year" is just that. Just a lie.
To be fair the Vignale trim’s just been released I reckon
oh guys she is taken 🙈🙈🙈💍 not type of my car 🤣🤣🤣 but i like Lady stylish accentish 😘😘😘 call me Darling on whatappeii hahahah i know where i park my car 😂😂😂
The editing is not it. I'm so close to unsubscribing.
Stick with us! We take your feedback very seriously and will make changes if necessary!
Looks a bit like Porsche Cayenne
Why do you have to shout rather than talk ? Cute though.
They retired the focus for this diabetic shoe.
05:00 OPA...THE BOOT IS 456+80 LITERS MEGABOX= 536 LITERS OR 456-80 LITERS 376 LITERS (IF I PUT A SPARE WHEEL IN THE MEGA BOX).?
Hi, would you know the size of a space saver wheel for this car .18 “ alloys on my StT line
I am finding it difficult to find one.
Thank you.
Typical dull looking Ford car. Rally version is heavily modified and looks totally different but good. Sadly that cannot be your every day car
Still looks like a frog, horrible lights!
Vibrates like piston slap or piston knock everytime yta take off and got to floor it to make it go 80 to 100. Inconsistent power.but part from that nice car to drive
Interesting suggestion about wanting colour on the interior. I prefer a clean look. No colour on the interior for me. Bit annoying in the UK where you get a Qi wireless phone charger as standard, but in Ireland we have to option it. Also, why no Qi charger option on the Fiesta or Focus? Frankly, I want not just one Qi charger up front, but two like all Teslas have. Passenger and driver need to charge, yo.
Just checked: many features you just listed are not on the Irish ST Line X model, and some aren't even an option such as leather seats, etc. UK cars get some many more options as standard. I think those in the market for one in Ireland should consider importing it from the UK. Since Brexit I'm unsure what that would mean, but the UK get such a better car for the money. Hmm...
Bring back the FORD EDGE
Sorry to buy with such engines that will not last and it will eat a lot of fuel... no thank you!
Agree, love the design and probably drives very well but pass.
If it had decent build quality be great just don’t like the quality inside plus not great on fuel really so went for a updated CHR which beats the ford on build and economy plus looks better in my eyes still a nice car though
f you want the 153bhp version with an auto 'box, you'll have to specify the top-spec ST-Line Vignale or Vivid Ruby Edition
Horizontal dashboard? Have i missed something? The vertical dashboard maybe lol
Shocking music not needed
This segment has been around since 2011 when BMW punted the X1. BMW were not happy it sold well because it threatened the beautiful saloon cars they are famous for. They sold almost a million E84s. Mazda's CX5 also been around for 10 years. The Puma has poor forward visibility and sitting in the cabin feels like being shut in a cupboard. There are no front quaterlights to reduce the blindspots - as you find in the Lexus UX and the Subaroo XV. Also the seats have very high sides which make getting in and out ridiculously awkward. I was hoping to test drive this car but the initial 'sit-in' a the dealership was so bad I won't bother. Shame - it is a nice looking motor.
Great review, thank you !
I'd rather Puma pants than drive this car.
Not bad... But the Toyota Yaris Cross is a lot better. Love the video 😎
I think you are lovely
I regret buying this car
Great review but the reviewer is a lot more sexy than the car. She’s good viewing though so promote her to main reviewer.
"...thought of everythin"? Can you get a spare wheel and a real handbrake?
Yes! Mine has both!
@@leemingmerlin Ta very much, good to know.
Looks like you used a phone camera with a wide angle lens as your main camera - the massive distortion and infinite depth of field is so jarring when you switch to the other proper camera and mid telephoto lens. She's a great presenter and that camera made her look like a cartoon.
It's a tall Fiesta that's been down the gym and too many features that come as standard with competitors are extra. On the positive the styling is nice as is the innovative boot box
Refreshing presentation - cut the ads near the end
Glad you liked it, David. We can't control the ads, unfortunately! They're generated automatically when the video is monetised. Keep watching - we've got loads of great reviews to come.
I highly recommend RUclips premium (if you can) the channels you love to watch get more ££/$$ from Premium viewers than ads :)
Wonder if Ford will replace the horrible EcoSport with the Puma here in North America. Why does Europe get the best Fords?
I have the StLineX, I have had 2 of the original Pumas. The new one, even if it is controversial, is a worthy successor to the '90s sports coupe. I absolutely love it. It looks awesome, it handles great, it is cheap but well equipped.
@8:42, one litre for such a large car? Is this a thing now? I can't afford one anyway, but I do think the back looks nice.
Cant unsee the frog now
