@@jamesanderson5268 But Tuomas has said she will be with Nightwish as long as Nightwish exists, and that should she leave, Nightwish will be no more. So Floor is the final frontwoman and lead vocalist, and in Tuomas' own words, "Floor has come home".

I think it is also a lesson of biology, astronomy and evolution from the big bang via Enter Sandman time up to this moment remining us that one day this all will end and we were here that actually short time versus the lifetime of the sun. And we should be happy of our existence being living things not being just sand grains of Sahara. Only a true genius can write this kind of a performance.

15:25-15:55 They go through a variety of musical styles(evolution of music in music about evolution) from Bach to industrial to Metallica to even a few beats of EDM(theres some other effects in there i can't quite place), without changing tempo, or most of the composition really. And that's why i fucking love this band.

    • @d34d10ck
      @d34d10ck 5 лет назад +5

Thanks for mentioning the EDM part. I've never specifically identified it representing a genre of music. I always thought that it was just part of the transition.

    • @SynphamyMusic
      @SynphamyMusic 5 лет назад +9

There's a little tinkering of a banjo in there too for folk music. Bear with me for the link here, but if you're interested in how genius Tuomas actually is in his composing, check this out: jyx.jyu.fi/bitstream/handle/123456789/41589/Charris%20Efthimiou%20-%20Aspects%20Of%20Emotion%20And%20Construction%20In%20The%20Music%20Of%20Nightwish.pdf;sequence=1
It's an essay on how he uses colours and emotions in his music and some really clever stuff about how he can evolve an arrangement multiple times through one song in such subtle ways that you might not notice if you aren't paying close attention. Really really cool stuff, he's incredible.

Isn't this also a modern nod to Joseph Haydn's masterpiece 'The Creation'? It's pretty epic in its own right, even though I can't condone the religious theme at all. In his defense though, writing religious works *did* get you the big paychecks in the 18th century.

Woooo !! I didnt think anyone would do a reaction video to this one, as its so long but as you found out, its so worthwhile the listen.
    A total masterpiece
There is a video on RUclips of this song & someone has put film in of the evolution of the earth, to this song.
Its well worth watching, as it explains so much of the song.
The man talking though the song is evolutionist Richard Dawkins
Richard was at Wembley with Nightwish & it was wonderful to see him :)
The quiet piece at the beginning of the song was the universe in slumber & then comes the big bang :)
The high vocals mid way, was the dinosaurs being wiped out. The Cretaceous extintion.
The words near to the end of the song, was the extinction of us !! 'WE WERE HERE' !!
And then life starts again, without HUMANS.

How did you like the lyrics? Isn't it an amazing topic for a song?
Speaking of lyrics, the only thing I'm a bit disappointed of, is that you stopped the video before the actual end of the song. That's a little pet peeve of mine - like, I get someone who doesn't know the song won't expect anything else to happen at this point but there is another short spoken part shortly after you stopped. It says:
"There is grandeur in this view of life
    With its several powers
Having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one
And that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on
According to the fixed law of gravity
    From so simple a beginning
Endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been
    And are being
    evolved"
Which imo is just as beautiful as all the other spoken parts. (By the way, these are spoken by Richard Dawkins, a well-known evolutionary biologist and ethologist!)
Glad you liked this one and can't wait for more Nightwish reactions!!!

Really hope you head back for more Nightwish. Would love to see you react to Storytime, Live @ Wacken 2013.
You loved Romanticide, so I'm almost positive you'll love Storytime.

The speech part is by Richard Dawkins, a british evolution biologist. Some of the religious fans got upset and even burnt their old Nightwish cd's once they figured out the whole album was about evolution.

What?? Seriously?? That's ridiculous! It's an album. Nothing to do with your life and how you see fit to run and believe in what. People are ignorant and sometimes, just plain stupid.

To be fair I'm not sure if anyone actually burned their cd's or whether that was just some crazy outburst. But I believe the band got some amount of negative feedback even before the album came out. Just because of Richard Dawkins being part of it.
      Crazy, I know.

See, to me that’s just childish, taking merch which these days is quite expensive and burning it. Its just a song, they need to grow up.

I am a Christian and I do not believe in the theory of evolution. That being said this is still a great album and everyone is entitled to their own views. I can enjoy it and still feel the love of God in my heart.

Floor's entrance here gives me the same chills as the last few notes from Floor in Ghost Love Score. Did you catch the Metallica, from Emppu? Would love to hear a long drum solo from Kai.

Nice reaction! I think you could have enjoyed it even more if you had researched a little about the meaning of the song. The Greatest Show on Earth is Life itself.
By the way, I love that in the show, the first few times she sings "scions of the Devonian Sea", the background images are showing DNA strings.

Im kinda understand a little bit of the story telling behind the presentation & the riffing and the beat after watching this many times
Fire works = big bang theory
Nomad voice = earliest human civilization
Metallica riff = the birth of modern metal
    Techno beat = mainstream music
    & many more to interpret..
A masterpiece, genius song composition & presentation
