@@hoohoohoblin yeah i’m thinking i might start a team. also i’ve seen a lot of americans saying like we can’t go outside and that but we can the only place is over east in a small state called victoria wheee there have been a few small protests but nothing huge.
Cheers thanks. I was thinking it might have been done that way but I thought I'd ask on the offchance you'd thought of something more ingenious! Simple is often better though!
It's really amazing though, that in the US you're still building 50s style carts. In the UK you're expected to have disc brakes, bmx wheels and ackermann-correct steering.
Hi hoohoo, I'm working with some middle schoolers to build a soapbox car. We really like your design and are wondering if you would share the plans for the build? Thanks!
I think the Cub Scouts do this in every state. There is definitely a trophy for the winner, and the Cub Scout pack gets to take it home and put it in their trophy case. We have one or two of them from past years.
If it’s downhill all the way, heavier is better. On our race course it is completely downhill, and everybody puts bags of sand and cement in their cars to make them faster down the hill.
Winning the race will get you an A+ of course but most importantly if you build a strong race car that is actually able to enter the race showing the three functions (rolling, steering and braking) will be enough to get you an A
Join the Cub Scouts. They have instructions on how to build one in the handbook, and they do an annual race against the other packs. It's a lot of fun.
Wrap a rope around the steering column and put a nail or screw through it to hold it on. Turning the steering wheel pulls the rope one way or the other, pulling on the axle to turn. Run the rope down from the steering wheel through eye bolts on the floorboard and forward to the axle. Try to have no slack in the rope.
i remember watching this as a kid in 2013 and thinking it’s just about the coolest thing ever. i wish we had soapbox racing in australia
You should start a soapbox racing team yourself over there, whenever they let you guys go outside again.

Thank you so much! This helped with my science assignment where we answered 4 questions we had to research about.
You’re welcome

Would have liked to see a close up of the steering system or a description.
If you want to add weight, put it middle, and low down. Maybe building the chassis with steel tubing and filling with sand.
I like you have as a hobby anything with wheels.
Love it. Thanks for sharing those tips. Awesome paint job. ;)
How did you arrange the steering?
very nice!
Where did you get the wheels from?
They are the official Boy Scout soapbox derby wheels. I think we got them from the BSA.
Are this races going anywhere in Tx?? Also is there money prices involved or is just for the fun?? Any trophies??

@@hoohoohoblin I sure would love to be part of a race like this... Seems like fun!
What league are you in? I raced "All American Soap Box Derby" and " National Derby Rally" as a kid but have never seen this type of car.
+brandon darnell We were racing in the Cub Scouts, under their rules.
Just got one u have the wheels I need can't find them no were
What's the body made of ?
how exactly did you make the hockey puck brake spring up after you push it down?
You pull the lever back
my dad used to build these cars in the 50's.
Cool. This is a tradition that will go on forever, as long as the Cub Scouts stay in business.
Did you do a totorial on how you made this kart? If so where!! I need it ASAP please
No. We inherited this from the previous Cub Scouts, so it was already built.
@@hoohoohoblin that's a shame... I was looking for how the steering works
can you use such a steering system also for curvy tracs? or is this steering system only for straight tracs ?
+Pieter-Jan De Ridder Only for straight tracks.
in what internet shop could I buy the wheel axles and the steering wheel system?
I think the Boy Scouts sell the stuff.
hey where building a car for town to race its a 228ft track only whats faster lighter or heavy in a short distance

AWESOME
Thanks.
Can you please make aerodynamics tutorial cuz I want to try to go 200+ kp/h someday (if I can)
can you show how the steering works???
Cant you make like bike brakes and the 2 front wheels
My dads gonna help me make one for my 12th bday thanks
you’re now 18 man
Cool
Thanks.
Michigan has limit of 215 lbs and car has a minimum limit of 6 ft and has been that way for 20t years
***** I am a college student and we have to make a soap race car like this as our final project, its really confusing
That's cool. Do you have to win the race to get an A?

My son really wants to build and race a car like this, but I haven't a single clue as to how to build one. Wish I did.
