Wow Nikko - your video is awesome I just did this yesterday but we took the long way around Your video was beautiful with all the highlights spots. Going to look at other stuff you have ❤️🙏🏼🫂
Awesome video and tips - thanks, Nikko! Did you see Jessica Farrell's review on AllTrails? She went on 1/15/23 after 3 weeks of non-stop pouring rain, and said, "The climb up was wet but doable. The creek is more like a river, and there is no way across without wading into the very fast water. A lot of people turned around…we pushed through and walked ~6 feet in thigh deep, fast moving water to reach the shortcut trail. Highly recommend poles!!" WOW - The creek is raging! I'm gonna wait a few weeks before trying.
Thanks so much for making this, super helpful! So it wasn't too cold in January to get in the water? Did you wish you had brought some water shoes to walk around on the rocks and sand at the beach?
No problem, thanks for commenting! The water was definitely cold, but since it wasn’t windy and the sun was out, I was able to warm back up. There’s only upsides to using water shoes, comfort/grip, but I don’t normally wear them. There are some slippery rocks and loose rocks, just had to be extra careful. Sand is more on the coarse side. However, it wasn’t bad.
PSA from the National Park Service: www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/alamere_falls.htm Stay safe out there!! There is NO park-sanctioned "Alamere Falls Trail" Please take note! Many social media posts, websites, and older (and some newer) guide books reference an "Alamere Falls Trail" (also sometimes referred to as a "shortcut to the falls"). The "Alamere Falls Trail" is NOT a maintained trail, and poses many hazards to off-trail hikers-crumbling and eroding cliffs, massive poison oak, ticks, and no cell phone service. Visitors who use this unmaintained trail may endanger themselves and rescuers, and inadvertently cause resource damage, such as trampling plants, which may lead to the death of the trampled plants. On an almost weekly basis, visitors get hurt scrambling down the heavily rutted route leading to the top of the falls or sliding down the crumbly cliff-face to get to the beach, sometimes requiring search and rescue teams to be mobilized. The National Park Service strongly advises visitors against using this unmaintained route. Please use the recommended routes described below to visit the falls.
I really appreciate all the details you offer at the end and the fact that there’s a dog in the footage, I’m assuming they didn’t take the shortcut? Now all I need is a hiking partner 🙄😅
Besides the shortcut hows the trail getting to it? Flat? There are elders in our group of hikers and have concern besides it being a "long trail" that there will be "up and down" hill.
there is moderate elevation change besides the shortcut. about 300ft of incline before the shortcut then about 500ft of decline starting at the short all the way down to the falls. hope this helps! i suggest you check out the alltrails map i made, linked in the description.

Wow! Those falls onto the beach were just amazing. What a great place to visit.
yes, it’s a very fun hike!
Thank you for this video! I was just talking about how I needed a picture of the shortcut on this trail to try on Saturday!
you're welcome! and wow, talk about perfect timing... have fun on saturday!

i’ve heard the shortcut cliff collapsed after the storms, so it’s more of a hill now. let us know how it was if you hiked the trail recently!
Thank you!
Anytime :)
Thanks for the Great tips!

Thanks!! Hell no I'm not going. Saved me
Haha maybe take the main trail? None of that type of climbing involved
Do you have plans of going back by taking the longer route? thanks
not in the near future, focused on exploring trails i haven’t been on!

How long is the shortcut round trip more or less?
8 miles, I made an AllTrails map for the shortcut. It’s linked in the Resources section of the description.
I'm a youtuber too. Liked your video and subscribed!
thanks! subscribed 👍🏽

How many miles round trip?
The shortcut trail is 8-9 miles roundtrip, my AllTrails map is linked in the description!
@@NCGTravel thanks bro, just got back
@@hmbv1591 Sick! How was it and how different did the shortcut cliff look? I heard it collapsed recently.
@@NCGTravel the hike was okay. It's my 1st time so I wouldn't know which part collapse.
How's the cell phone service?
spotty in some areas, i always download the alltrails map before getting to the trail
So how many miles total is the shortcut trail?
a little over 8 miles out and back, check out the alltrails map in the description for more details!
Saw that after I made my comment 🤦🏼♀️ really appreciate this video! Hiking with two small kiddos so I look for all the details I can find

This is the WORST THING. The park service begs you not to do this. For ill behaved tourist only. We will yell at you and make your experience horrible
Interestingly, locals that frequented the "shortcut" directed us to it while we were on the main trail
