Assembling a Champion 19" Rear-tine Rototiller

  • The weeds get away from us so quickly on the farm. It's hard to keep up with the garden when the weeds take over. So we decided we needed a tiller this year. We opted for low-budget as we didn't feel we needed all the bells and whistles, just something to turn the weeds in. The tiller of choice is the Champion 19" Rear Tine Tiller.
    The store was so busy, and the tiller we wanted wasn't assembled yet, but we were able to bring it home and assemble it ourselves. Brent didn't have to spend too long putting it all together.

      Thanks, Sindy! I'm quite relieved to have the tiller. Brent dug up some of the garden already, and oh my! What a saving on time and energy that otherwise I would have spent on weeding alone! I'm so glad you enjoy my channel, and the tea! :)

    Did I miss it or did you NOT check the trans oil ? In my case it looks like grease, but it calls for 85w 140 oil. It is about like jelly when you check. My other new tiller has thick oil in trans but is liquid, like 90w gear oil.Grease does not sound right for transmission.

      I did not check the trans oil/grease but had read up on it and expected that to be the case.
      Since there’s no gears, just a clutch mechanism, I’m not too surprised it’s not a liquid 🤷‍♂️

    You think a rear till is better than a feont till?

    • @quarter-milefarm9733
      @quarter-milefarm9733  Год назад

      The rear till are usually bigger and more robust, but the front till is more self-propelled. This rear tine is a counter-rotating so it requires a bit of a push to keep it going. The front tillers are usually smaller, and we wanted the bigger option.

  • @williamsantiago7303
    @williamsantiago7303 Год назад

    Wow, you would think they would put a neutral mechanism in the transmission so the wheels could spin freely whenever neutral is engaged instead of getting on your knees to lift that beast to disengage the wheels. $897.00 at Homedepot is to much money for something that doesn't have a neutral selection in the transmissio. Looks good but a little too much money.

    • @quarter-milefarm9733
      @quarter-milefarm9733  Год назад

      Yeah, you'd think in these days, they would come up with something like that in these less expensive machines, but they like to save that feature for the $1000s+ machines. For less money, you won't get any more fetaures though... We certainly could wish for a nice mechanism to change gears, but couldn't afford a more expensive machine. Also... in our area, there was't much selection, period. I agree, expensive... but it's what was available. And let me tell you, sure is better than getting out there with a hoe! Lol!

      We bought it at The Home Depot and they do usually assemble them and sell them that way. When we were there, they didn't have any assembled, and they were very busy - so busy they asked us if we wanted a job. Lol! To help them out, and to get out of the store sooner, we asked if we could just take it home in the box and put it together ourselves. They said that worked for them.
