Where Were You Last Night? | Christine
When Arnie says "Why?" he was probably talking to Christine and probably the detective as well. As messed up as Arnie looks, it kinda makes you feel like he was thinking, Why did you do this without me? I thought we were inseparable??
When he says why?! it's to make the cops and everybody else not suspect him, he was playing dumb. He knows his car is indestructible and evil, the cops won't buy his story that his car killed them, so he acts like he doesn't know what's going on, well planned Arnie!
Con christine secondo me
He meant why Darnell?
@@molasorrosalom4846Arnie says why that's why
Its more like a mix of things. I always saw it as 'why was he behind the wheel of MY car?'
This movie is really a classic and very well done
With Avery 😎 cool car.
He disrespected Arnie and her. The cigar ash on her upholstery was the final straw.
@@timothyexnershe seen her walking alone. He knew too much.
Indeed. Fifties nostalgia was a big thing in late seventies-early eighties.
Nice detail here in Keith Gordon's acting; every time he looks at Christine, his personality shifts. He starts off confrontational, then sees Christine and falters, looks at her, is abrasive and tries to leave to get the parts, then looks back again and he's quiet and meek. Like Arnie's real personality is bleeding through one last time but Christine keeps asserting her control over him.
That's a really great observation. I'm curious to read the book and wonder how it may expand in that relationship.
The musical score to this film is haunting, utterly great.
this movie had an awesome cast, great story by King, and amazing direction. It is one of a handful of films I consider perfect.
I agree! I will say this one thing, the character Director, Harry Dean Stanton was there one moment in his life that he wasn’t smoking a cigarette boy is that product addictive day and day out he was born in Kentucky started smoking at 12 and went all the way to 88😄
The book goes into much more detail about Arnie becoming possessed by the spirit of Richard LeBay. While Christine does possess him (as it did LeBay), in the book Arnie fights the possession to a degree and every once in awhile fights through and even begs for help as he is aware to some degree that the evil spirit is taking over. When Arnie says, "Well all I know is..." his voice is actually softer and more meek (like Arnie has come out for a second), then his voice hardens because like LeBay, he doesn't give a shit that Darnell is dead and he covers his tracks with "All I know is I've got a Cadillac full of parts...". Then, moments later, Arnie comes out again and you hear him softly say, "Honest Mr Junkins, I don't know what's going on here". I could be reading a lot into it, but in the book Arnie is a victim of the possession and does try to put up a fight to stop it, before ultimately succumbing.
I think that's very hard to convey in a movie, but I feel like they tried some in scenes like this one.
Interesting. The fight near the end of the book when he and his mother die because of Christine is as close as I got to understanding that.
Ya, that's the scene I remember most vividly as well. Truthfully, I read the book over 20 years ago so I don't remember everything about it. I was assuming that there was more to it since I remembered the scene. But, if you just finished reading it and there is nothing like that going on then I certainly stand corrected. Though that causes me to wonder why the scene before they parish in the crash was in there to begin with? There wasn't any other moment in the book where Arnie seemed to break through after he crossed paths with Christine? Perhaps it's time to give it another read, I did so enjoy it the first time around. :)
@@stoytrivia1126 Oh gosh, it's been 35 years + since I read the book, so it's quite possible that I've forgotten something.
@@kenklein9228 Ya, I didn't reply directly to you, but you could be 1000 percent right. I saw the movie first, and in addition to recalling the scene you referenced, I seem to recall thinking that the Richard LeBay character seemed like a much more active and central character in the book than in the movie and thinking that was an interesting difference. But, it was over 20 years ago so I could be off on this. Though there does seem to be a few times in the movie where Arnie vacillates between a measure of good and pure evil.

" if you want me to come in and gitcha I'm gonna gitcha "
Always felt bad for movie Darnell, if he has just stayed in his office he would have been fine. Unfortunately he came out and saw Christine all burned up and driving by herself and she had to kill him to keep that secret and protect Arnie.
why he got inside a hot ass burned up car is beyond me
It's JUST a movie
actually she killed him because Darnell was shit talking her to another worker. he said "you cant polish a turd" and "he (arnie) has great hands, but terrible taste in cars". the song that she plays while killing him is "phoney maroney" implying that she is calling Darnell a phony for being "nice" to Arnie but shit talking his car behind his back. she lets Darnell see her roll into the garage to get him to get inside so she can kill him
I was thinking Christine was furious at Darnell because he wouldn’t let Arnie bring in his next project, the truck from Duel.
@@jhaeck1She seduced him and he gave in. She had to kill him because he saw to much.
The reason Christine killed Darnell was to provided an alibi for Arnie. Therefore, legally, removes Arnie from suspicion and places Darnell as the likely killer. Means, motive and movement. All to protect Arnie.
2 terrific performances 👏 ...appreciate how lead character changes (respect this) elder actor is legendary 👏 😅
Harry Dean Stanton was great in this movie.
Wait a second…
He’s great in every movie he’s in.
I loved him as Brain in Escape from New York and as Toot in The Green Mile. He was indeed a legend.
Yep, and quite a range. Deadbeat dad in Pretty In Pink to ALIEN.
Repo Man
Cool hand Luke
He was in a episode of Andy Griffith. When Howard Sprague went to a tropical island. Wanna buy a ship in a bottle?
When Arnie asks “why?” He’s not asking Junkins why is Darnell dead, he’s asking Christine why did she kill him. Very subtle there.
Also, I don’t know how Christine saw him as a threat, Darnell, despite his derogatory nature was good to her and Arnie. He gave Arnie a job, and Christine somewhere to stay. Who knows why she killed him.
She killed him because he saw her drive herself into his garage during the previous scene. He opens her door and finds nobody inside, and that would have given her up as autonomous.
@@Erichhh Yep, as soon as he saw her drive in, he now knew too much and had to be eliminated
notice how the old Arnie comes through a bit and he starts to explain things then looks over at Christine and stops talking "All I know.....(looks over) All I know is I have a Cadillac full or parts and I have to be at school in half an hour". It was like Christine was telling him to shut up
She killed him because he touched her.

this film made me cry for some reason 😂
I can understand that, this movie is a love story after all
Fun Fact: The original casting choices for Dennis Guilder was Kevin Bacon, Arnie Cunningham was Scott Baio and Leigh Cabot was Brooke Shields. It was a creative decision to cast unknown actors instead.
You see that in many movies. The original casting choices leaves you scratching your head.IMO, many great classic movies like Christine would have never become so famous if the original cast members were chosen.
Actually, Kevin Bacon left because he wanted the role in Footloose.
Met the formidable Christine female flesh not scripted best mate John . A masterclass in cinematography..
I havent read the book but I always pictured Arnie asking christine why and not the officer
Have the DVD with all the deleted/alternate scenes. This was one of them. In the (I believe) alternate scene Junkins brings up his first encounter with Arnie about the paint he "used". Found no record of the purchase he got it from. Brings up Moochie's death again & gives Arnie a threat to come clean before he finds out for himself, even though Arnie has cast-iron alibis on the night of the killings.
Love this movie 🎉
I never knew Jason Mellon from Back to School owned Christine.
The only two movies I've ever seen him in.
Thanks Dean Martin!
I actually got to sit behind the wheel of Christine at the Chicago Horror Convention last year.
Man oh man, was it something else.
If I ever won The lottery, that is one car I would definitely purchase.
I think Arnie was on the cusp of telling the truth to Junkins when he softly says "well all I know is", then hesitates and Christine influences him and he comes up with the car full of parts line.
Christine took out the shitters, love this movie.
Kid had an airtight alibi. That cop was stumped. Arnie was truly scared here. Not like their first meeting. Lebay was possessing Arnie at that time.
This is the last time we see even a hint of humanity in Arnie. Next time we see him at New Year's picking up Dennis, he looks like a vampire and is a full blown psychopath
I think his scene after this was him calling Leigh drunk begging for her to come back. "Well then f*** you b****!!"
there will never be a movie like this again or will it be remade as good
Christine knows why
GREAT MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!
2:09 We'll take care of the Caddy, I don't want you touching it.
The million dollar question would Christine have killed Arnie for spilling the beans if he had came clean about the killings
No, cause no one would believe it.
The movie is way better than the book because "IT'S THE CAR" not the dead brother.
That's the story of Stephen King's entire career.
Well the one wouldn't exist without the other, but I'd agree that the adaptions they did when converting the novel to a screenplay work better. I think the car having a soul of its own is much more compelling than it being some dude's pervy ghost.
@mischiefandmayhem8409 I do understand your first point but actually The Twilight Zone did a possessed car episode long before Christine.
@@mischiefandmayhem8409 King only got recognition because of his Masonic connections in the industry. He is a talentless Lovecraft wannabe. Ende.
Arnie ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Every 80s character actor every 😂
I wish they brought Christine part 2
Its alive!!!! Haha
Chiristine era invencível! depois te esmagar ,outro carro, eliminar outros ainda explodiu o posto de combustível e se reconstituiu denovo..
Christine didn’t like how Darnell treated Arnie. Darnell got what he deserved for the way he raised his voice to Arnie and cursed him out.
Good acting
Arnie kinda looks like Danny from Grease
I hate that goddamn movie Gross
I don't see the resemblance. Buddy looks like Travolta from Welcom Back Kotter though.
No, he looks like Jason from Back to school.
Junk-ins. Drives a Plymouth Fury
In the movie I always wondered, why would you get into a car that clearly looks like it was on fire and hot . Especially after you just watched it drive in, open the door and there's no one in it ?!
so he plays Proposition very well. but maybe he was scared too...i think so
CHRISTINE- " Don't Look at ME...I didn't Do Nuffin..."
The detective was in the Green Mile .
Wasn't Darnell smoking a cigar like the factory worker at the beginning? I don't think Christine liked being smoked in. That's probably why.
Why no copyright?
As we all know, Arnie wasn't anywhere near Darnell's the previous nite. He was telling the truth. He was puzzled with "her." (Why?)
Pretty good horror flick.
My car is conducting its own auto-da-fe. I swear that's all I know.
Here's a good question why
did Artie walk directly toward his car
Because if the garage was open
that's where Darnell would normally be....
I'm genuinely curious to know how many other people picked up on this detail: a much younger Darnell was the factory worker at the beginning that found her first victim dead ( the black guy with the cigar) That's why when he first sees the car he says " I knew a guy who had a car like that once the guy killed himself in it" Christine killed Darnell out of some form of unfinished business which is also supported by Arnie asking "why" as he would have no idea that they had encountered each other before.
In the book he knew the original owner which was Roland LeBay
@@jason2533shitters
It does look like Darnell in the beginning. I always wondered that
Nah, you totally made that up…he knew lebay killed himself in it
In the book darnell is a fat unnatractive man who smokes cigars and has made a small fortune running illegal goods across state lines. He owns a lot of property also that I think grows pot or something..don't precisely remember. Christine kills Darnelle because Darnelle suspects Christine is posessed by the spirit of Roland Lebay....he figures this out too late though, plus he is distracted by the police investigation that might actually convict him this time.
Vero sembra chiederlo alla macchina perché
Gorgeous car tho…
Always was, and always will be 👍
Notice that he's wearing red and black - hell's colors.
Fun fact it’s not him. It’s the car possessed.
Book is much better...movie has good actors but was completely changed. In the book darnell was killed at his home...Christine literally plowed into the living room, it was snowing too.
I don’t think that Det Jenkins believes him…
At the sodomy station waiting for her train einstein.
This movie needed a little more skin!
