Hi everyone. I am writing this review on the Presonus Eris 3.5. I bought a pair a while ago. I feel it is important to address my experience and also how it relates to this video. In this video the Eris 3.5 sounds 'harsh' etc. When I listen to this video versus playing the original song on the video through my Eris 3.5, it does not sound the same. My EQ at the back is standard 12 oh clock. But before making any judgments, the following happened: I bought a pair through Takealot. When I received it, it did sound a bit harsh. However, after some time playing with the system, one speaker started giving problems. It went soft, loud, soft, loud and eventually had 'hiss' noise. The speakers also sounded that it lacked some low-end depth, but that was expected as it only has a 3.5 driver. I then send the speakers back. Takealot sends me a brand new pair. I now have it just over a month and it sounds great. But this is the weird thing - my new pair (1) Does not sound harsh, (2) Has a LOT more depth and low end, (3) is just amazing and (4) have not given me any problems. I would still want to invest in a budget second-hand sub. So... for those who do not have money for studio speakers, I personally would recommend 3.5 if you want to start out on basic sound over video editing and producing songs. You will not be wasting your money. It will be an investment and you can, later on, invest in a better system. So in general, don't feel bad if you can't afford something better. It does not devalue you as a person or your music. Tip: they are NEAR FIELD MONITORS. So don't buy them if you going to watch movies etc. You are meant to sit closer to them within the correct field. Words in movies will sound muffled if you sit far from these speakers. Rather buy a normal theater system. But if you are into accuracy and critical listening, yes get them. But it is important that you consider your room layout, acoustics, speakers placement and tweaking the EQ as needed. Trust me, you will not lack low end, except under 80Hz. If you can save up for a bigger pair, buy a bigger pair. If not, buy a smaller pair, it is okay. But be proud of it and learn to mix on it and practicing your judgment and ears. Presonus does say they were designed for mixing. In conclusion, they are not harsh, the sound is strong, the built quality is good, they do not lack bass, but they do lack under 80 Hz, which can be a workaround if you can get a second-hand cheap sub (studio powered sub with a build-in crossover). Lekka ouens - geniet dit. Let me know if you have any questions. Update: if your Eris 3.5 sounds harsh and as if it lacks a lot of low-end, I recommend to do a replacement, as it may be a faulty amp/driver. That is my personal opinion, I may be wrong.

If you guys experience a buzzing sound when speakers are turned on: 1. ensure all connected devices are powered from the same power outlet/extension outlet 2. switch from using RCA cables to TRS cables I was searching online for a solution to this and came across others experiencing the same thing but with no real solution. I'm sharing this so that everyone can enjoy these lovely speakers without any buyers remorse like I had at the beginning :)
@@MaestroStefanoPetrini that didn't work for me. the cables made the biggest difference. my source was from my desktop's motherboard sound card which is known to have a lot of interference. it didn't have any buzzing if i use my phone or other devices as a source
Thank you for doing this. The 4.5 clearly sound better and a bit fuller, however the 3.5 are all I need for a cheap set of traveling monitors along with some living room use. Awesome, they sound damn good for the sound/price. Thx!
The 3.5 do sound very good for what they are. Very good clarity (better than the 4.5s even in that particular department), lacking thumping bass, but I don't care for that anyway.
Got my 4.5 today! Listened to all of your comparisons with the E4.5 and they really were a good choice for me. I´m using them for listening music (Metal) and they´re sounding excellent! Now i´m looking for a sub, but even without sub, they´re great. Thanks for your videos (subbed)!
It doesn't sound clearer. It's missing the low end giving it the illusion that it's clearer through the microphone, but in reality the 4.5 has a more expansive sound including the frequencies the 3.5 is playing.
@@AlejandroGonzalez-vi3oj ofc I will get 4.5 ! But personal, I use 3.5, because I didn't had a budget ! I cant really compare them , because are my first speakers. But you can do some work with them! It really depends on the room acoustic and treatment first ! But I manage to do some , basic mixing... I think the most important is the room treatment and acoustic :) . If you are a beginner , you can buy them . They work fine, but 4.5 are better ofc, more low end !
For a long time I still don't know which to get... The 3.5 seems slightly more detailed but maybe due to the 4.5 having more bass? The comment section seems to be torn and just add to the confusion... Is it posible to get the 4.5 and lower the bass from the eq behind to sound more like the 3.5 when bass isn't needed(Night listening)? The 3.5's guitar sound more pronounced than the 4.5 when bass is present which is nicer, but I want the bass thumping when needed
Mine e3.5 arrive last week, and I'm in love with'em! Very well defined frequences, nice design, compact size (cause the size really matters haha), with 50w RMS!!! It's a great choice for mixing at home with the minimum of quality. I regret for not buying that before. ❤️
Can you lower the bass on the 4.5 to make it sound like the 3.5? I feel like 3.5 is more clear but I want to have the option for bigger bass when needed. thx
i have the old version of eris 4.5 and i have two knob for that ...... i see on amazon that the new version is without the knob .... on mine i have "headroom" and "bass" with -4db -2db or 0dB ....
@@valentineezeudu6638 I'm a freelance motion designer/video editor. My home office is pretty small and these work perfectly, anything bigger and more powerful would be too much. They sound great for any kind of music really.
Ι have the 4.5 for about 1,5 years. I am over pleased by them. For home , music, movies and music creating (electronic) .All of them went to another level for us home. I fully recomment the 3.5s to a friend lately, for the less money ofcourse, but with great quality of sound. And no problems i must say. A little sound that you can hear from the monitors, is only when they are on and don't play and only if you are very close to them. It's nothing, it doesn't exist when they play, even at their lower volume . I have them permanent at the 1/3 of the volume and use only the pc's volume (which goes until the half, then problem with bad neighbors ), SO LOUD they can play and clear sound. I also enjoy A LOT to watch movies at loud volume, not annoying for ears (i mean for home, not in the cinema).Fully recommented as i said earlier.
@@mrtechie6810 I haven't heared the 3.5 from close, but the sound from the video reminds me the 4.5. You can play with their sound from behind also, bass, middle, if you are close or far from them, their acoustic in the room. I think the 3.5 are also enough for home.
@@MiloMcCarthyMusic it should be but it's not, clearly the 3.5 have more cristal clear sound while the 4.5 are a bit "bass boosted", and for producing music thats not very useful
@@MiloMcCarthyMusic o said "cristal clear" as a figure of speech. The 4.5 does not give you the "tru sound" as I said before they are bass boosted and colored eq
Edwin chiu bought eris 4.5 with bluetooth. They are ok, maybe could handle lower frequencies a bit better but I think its sufficient for home studio. Overally, I’m satisfied and I think I won’t need any better monitors. I’m afraid 3.5 inches might be constraining at some points
Wow the 3.5's are so much clearer, and of course I understand the 4.5 sounds fuller because of a bigger driver... however I still prefer having the clarity of the 3.5s instead. I've got neighbours behind 2 walls in my studio apartment so that plays a factor as well, if it comes to it and I feel like I need more then a sub can be added right?
Really thank you for this video. I was thinking if I should Get Mackie or Presonus. After listening to your video Mackie vs Presonus. I decided Presonus. But after that is it 3.5 or 4.5. and I'm grateful you have this video for comparison as well. I love 4.5 cause It sounds fuller. But if I get 3.5 and get a sub then maybe it helps (after reading the comments). Since clarity is important for music makers and starters like me than fuller sound which can be added later with a sub.
Somehow 3.5 has a better sound stage and imaging. Listen to the guitar and the snare sound, it sounds so accurate on them. While 4.5 has better body to it but some how falis to saparate the instruments and slightly muddy in the mid region. I have the 3.5 and i just luv them for critical listening. I even mix on them but don't recommend for mixing as you don't get sub frequencies from them. But for critical listening sessions it's the best at this price range. I like to listen to indie and acoustic songs on them.
Well there you have it guys, PreSonus wins. But on the serious side, the 3.5 sounds more flat to me thereby making it better for music/audio production.
Thank you very very much for this comparison. Will go for the 3.5. I prefer the smaller size, sound definition (to my ear more clarity, less muddy, covered by a blanket) and fact that power button and input/output jacks are on front side and thus easy accessible. It has the RCA inputs my turntable needs. Looks to me a great value for money and just what I need. And they look good too. Will only use it for recordplaying an easy listening, old school style. 😊
E3.5 lacks the texture and richness of sound - for the snare drum, cymbals, trumpet, and other HF sounds including the woman's voice. It has the same problem for LF sounds. E4.5 covers a wider range of frequencies and you can distinguish the richness this adds to the music. I'm gonna have to go with the E4.5 on this one.
I have been in the Audio industry for over 30 years, mostly building High-End listening rooms, The Presonus speaker lineup absolutely shocked me as too how good they are... I have the 3.5's in my studio and so far i am well impressed.. intend to get the larger ones and my son is going to get the 3.5's
@@mrtechie6810 the 3.5's are amazing for the price and size, well worth the money. It is really amazing how low they can get.. One thing i did notice was the bass on the right is a little more boomy, I am not sure why as both speakers are ported, like to do with the AMP being on the left side. As long as you have them on good stands or foam you won't mind it. i just upgraded to the E5 XT which arrived yesterday. will take about a week for them to sound right but so far i can definitely tell they need more drive to get them moving :)
Hi, did you buy the e4.5? some say the e4.5 is worth the extra 100$ by far, while others say that they like the e3.5 more... can you tell me which one is better? it's really hard for me to decide when I can't listen to it live and decide by myself. Also, I don't have enogh space for the speakers now, but hopefully I will in the future, so I'm not sure which one to get...
@@Darkred11 I bought the Eris 5XT's, and one of the best moves i made.. Bass is amazing on these speakers... they have very good imaging as well.. recommend them all day every day :)
Eris 4.5 is more flat than 3.5 .... The Eris 3.5 has too much trebles after 2kHz. They are so beautiful with the blue kevlar ... I also tested the KRK RP4 but when you listen to music at low volume, they go stand by ... thus I return them ....
@@uabybra i solded the RP4 after few months because this standby ... when i listen music chill at low volume they turn off ... no problem with eris 4.5 very cool speakers for the price ;)
Hot damn. Battle between the Eris bros! Eris E4.5 does feels punchier and abit neutral vs brighter Eris E3.5. I've now understood why Presonus market their Eris E3.5 as _Media Reference_ Monitor instead of _Studio_ Monitor like its bigger siblings. It would not even stand a chance against benchmarkers like R1700BT and the all-time _über_ compact speaker, Audioengine A2+. $100 pricetag really has its flaws. Too bad.
What if you had a really small room? Would that make the 3.5 a better fit? Thanks. I am just not sure if it is worth going for 1 inch more, when I won't really listen to them loudly.
The 4.5 sounds bit more in depth and bassy but the highs on the 3.5 are a bit more defined you i defo think 4.5 sound cleaner and less harsh but might not be good for mixing
I’m about to buy a pair of small studio monitors and have listened to most of your DS comparisons - very insightful, thank you. A suggestion, if I may, a ‘spoken word’ test would be really useful in these comparisons, doesn’t matter what language, maybe both male and female? What do you think? Thanks 👍
most of the comments said the presonus 3.5 is better than the 4.5, then in another video, mackie cr4 is is better than the 3.5 and then 4.5 is better than cr4.. so 3.5 > 4.5 > cr4 > 3.5 ? I previously owned a cr4, wanted to get a 3.5 or 4.5.
3.5 it is, if i was going to dish out another 100 i might as well add in another hundred and get a used yamaha hs. i play black metal so bass isnt really required lol
Thank you for choosing music that was varied and played with instruments as well as digital samples. I've seen too many speaker demos that do not use music recorded in a studio but created in a computer. I have both in my library but having the full range particularly the classical and big band style really completes the picture.
super job comparing these two sets of monitors. Listening to your comparison clips the 4.5s sound "fuller" with better frequency response, but they also sound a little heavier at the bottom end. Do you think that the 4.5s overstate low tones and the 3.5s understate them? Which pair do you think makes for a more accurate mix?
E4.5 is a superior monitor in every diemension IMO. Not only does it have more natural bass response, but more impotrantly its midrange is more natural, precise and detailed. Definitely go with E4.5 for mixing if You can
can someone help me to understand if the presonus eris 3.5 can be good as a main studio monitor? I would like to mix and produce with a DAW .... I am a novice and I have limited space, everyone tells me to take expensive products like yamaha hs6 to start ... thanks Sorry my english
Yes, they can be good in a small room, but you might want to add a sub if you produce something with lots of drums and basses. Here's an article about someone who uses 3.5 for music production and shares his experiences: ocremix.org/community/topic/47200-faithful-studio-monitor-speakers-with-flat-frequency-response-and-crystal-clear-sound/
Anyone have a very low hum around 50/60hz when the speakers are idle? (not a ground loop) I've taken these back to the music shop to test and they found the same problem with nothing plugged in... Studio monitors sometimes have a very small amount of white noise - but they shouldn't hum. Not a huge issue but it's audible from 3ft away in a quiet room.
Some Amazon reviewers say the hum goes away when trying to fiddle with the passive speaker connections on the back - in some cases they can be mounted badly or something. Also curious, does the humming go away when you disconnect the passive speaker completely? Maybe the wire is picking up some noises and then feeding them back in.
Unlike other commentors, I wanted the 3.5 but after hearing this I can't get them for serious mixing. They make the guitar sound unlike a guitar, the 4.5s are pretty accurate.
Which one did you end up getting the three or the four I’m looking for ones with good Luanne and a good Twitter for mixing mastering vocals and making instrumentals
@@liltrboofficial4671 hi there. I ended up ordering Mackie CR4X. I recommend checking out the comparison of them with the Eris 4.5 on this channel. My bass is coming out too loud in other speakers after I mixed using eris 3.5 I feel its because I boosted too much as I was not getting the proper bass for reference.
@@kingzz1011 I wouldn't recommend using a home theater sub as the sound will also be distorted and you'll end up with an inconsistent mix. The presonus Eris also can only connect to their own subs which are around 300$. A tip I forgot to mention yesterday was also have a reference track of the genre you're making in the project and have a spectrum analyzer on it and a loudness meter on it that measures your LUFS levels. You want to see the levels they have on their song and adjust your levels visually. I use that trick to this day to keep my bass consistent.
Go for eris 4.5 if you are considering just these two models. It will be great if you have professional monitoring headphones.Minute details are far more pronounced on headphones than over speakers.
If you were going to combine this with the Presonus Temblor T10 subwoofer anywayz -- would the E4.5 + subwoofer still sound better than the E3.5 + subwoofer? What do you think?

1. ensure all connected devices are powered from the same power outlet/extension outlet
2. switch from using RCA cables to TRS cables
I was searching online for a solution to this and came across others experiencing the same thing but with no real solution. I'm sharing this so that everyone can enjoy these lovely speakers without any buyers remorse like I had at the beginning :)
lower the gain on the back of monitors by 75% is a solution? it eliminate the rustle
@@MaestroStefanoPetrini that didn't work for me. the cables made the biggest difference. my source was from my desktop's motherboard sound card which is known to have a lot of interference. it didn't have any buzzing if i use my phone or other devices as a source
So how did you solved?
@@MaestroStefanoPetrini swapping to TRS cables instead of RCA
Finally a well made test ! Thanks !
4.5 are way better for living room stereo set up
The 3.5s are surprisingly loud & very clear. I was shocked. Gonna purchase them for my home studio set up.
U fine with them? I get mine in some days for mixing my rap songs.
Hey, did u get the sub? In that case, wich one? I have the 4.5 and i'm interested in opinions.
Do they humm, hiss from time to time? 10x
I just recently bought the Eris E4.5. The sound is really great!
Who is here because they bought their Presonus Speakers long ago but this demo track is just so cool I keep coming back !!!
In song at 2:36 Eris 3.5 sounds much more clear and expansive. Wow
It doesn't sound clearer. It's missing the low end giving it the illusion that it's clearer through the microphone, but in reality the 4.5 has a more expansive sound including the frequencies the 3.5 is playing.
@@spandexunderwear3630 I was trying to explain this to everybody... Why the heck they would release 4.5 if was lower quality than 3.5 xD
@@yurianvise1672 But still, which one of these will you rather get? the 4.5 or the 3.5?
@@AlejandroGonzalez-vi3oj ofc I will get 4.5 ! But personal, I use 3.5, because I didn't had a budget ! I cant really compare them , because are my first speakers. But you can do some work with them! It really depends on the room acoustic and treatment first ! But I manage to do some , basic mixing... I think the most important is the room treatment and acoustic :) . If you are a beginner , you can buy them . They work fine, but 4.5 are better ofc, more low end !
you need to have a nice pair of headphones to hear the difference. 4.5 sound much much better on my Monolith m1060
I got my 4.5s for 90$
4.5 seems that has more punch but voice is more clear in 3.5 for this reason.
can´t relate to. 4.5 is more clear
Just got the 3.5 thanks to your videos and it's amazing, can't believe the 100 euro price tag! Huge value!
and this is what i needed to convince me to order mine hehe.. bruh do you own a studio? or you use them just for listening pleasure

Ok.. great! I’m setting up a home music studio
The fact you used correct audio recording equipment made my decision so much easier when it come to choosing one of the two! Thankss!
What do you think of the 3.5 vs 4.5?
@@mrtechie6810 I haven't heared the 3.5 from close, but the sound from the video reminds me the 4.5. You can play with their sound from behind also, bass, middle, if you are close or far from them, their acoustic in the room. I think the 3.5 are also enough for home.
The 3.5 sounds more open. I prefer it over the 4.5. I bet imaging and transparency are better too.
Listen music: 4.5. Home studio: 3.5
You need better quality for producing music than you do for listening to it. Should be the other way around
@@MiloMcCarthyMusic it should be but it's not, clearly the 3.5 have more cristal clear sound while the 4.5 are a bit "bass boosted", and for producing music thats not very useful
funkfella the 3.5s arent crystal clear, they are treble boosted. The 4.5s give the true sound.
@@MiloMcCarthyMusic o said "cristal clear" as a figure of speech. The 4.5 does not give you the "tru sound" as I said before they are bass boosted and colored eq
funkfella nope
Obviously neither are great because they are so cheap but the 3.5 are less accurate
Absolutely ultimate comparison ...cz of you we can select what we can't do by simply comparing specs thank you so much @digital stereophony
Can you tell me the room 4 x 4 meters should use 3.5 or 4.5 for the best sound quality?
I think both will be fine

Great Review. Thank you for taking the time. I'm going to purchase the Eris 3.5 :)
Trying to buy my first pair of studio monitors. Your videos are super helpful. Thank You
wich one did u buy? im tryng to figure out if 3.5 works good for a home studio or alesis elevate 5
Edwin chiu bought eris 4.5 with bluetooth. They are ok, maybe could handle lower frequencies a bit better but I think its sufficient for home studio. Overally, I’m satisfied and I think I won’t need any better monitors.
I’m afraid 3.5 inches might be constraining at some points
finally made my mind up, was going to get the 3.5 but for little extra the difference in sound is surprising.
100 bucks more isnt little extra...
In the uk it's like 50pound more
This comparison is was I what looking for!! Great job and thank you so much!
listening on my 4.5's, glad i spent the extra sounds extremely full compared to the 3.5's
Completely agree with you , nice to see someone considerate of his neighbors , unfortunately rare these days , 😇😇😇 .
It's exactly the same tweeter only the woofer and crossover are different. I think the 4.5 has some advantages but those aren't worth $100.
Which did you got?
Sub is not even recommended for small room. So maybe just turn up the bass a bit if u want from 3.5
Somehow 3.5 has a better sound stage and imaging. I like to listen to indie and acoustic songs on them.
mids on the 3.5 sounds good
Which do you think is the best option 3.5,4.5 or 5 for home production and mixing hip hop/Rnb/Trip hop?
You can get E5 for 99$ per piece now. Go for it
@@DSAUDIOreview where fam
Well there you have it guys, PreSonus wins. But on the serious side, the 3.5 sounds more flat to me thereby making it better for music/audio production.
They almost sound identical until you get to the extreme end of some frequencies.
This made me excited to get my 3.5 soon. Just pre ordered it thru a local dealer.
The 4.5 is much fatter and fluid to listen to, I'd pick that. Hey, can you do a comparison between the E5 and Eris 4.5?
What do you think of the 4.5 vs 3.5?
@@mrtechie6810 the 3.5's are amazing for the price and size, well worth the money. It is really amazing how low they can get.. One thing i did notice was the bass on the right is a little more boomy, I am not sure why as both speakers are ported, like to do with the AMP being on the left side. As long as you have them on good stands or foam you won't mind it.
i just upgraded to the E5 XT which arrived yesterday. will take about a week for them to sound right but so far i can definitely tell they need more drive to get them moving :)
One thing to add, use the 1/4 jacks if you can, the 3.5's seem to sound better when i used those over the unbalanced RCA's
Hi, did you buy the e4.5? some say the e4.5 is worth the extra 100$ by far, while others say that they like the e3.5 more... can you tell me which one is better? it's really hard for me to decide when I can't listen to it live and decide by myself. Also, I don't have enogh space for the speakers now, but hopefully I will in the future, so I'm not sure which one to get...

hi, can you make a video including M-Audio BX5 D? you can compare it with other well-known 5inch monitors. thanks.
Eris 4.5 is more flat than 3.5 .... The Eris 3.5 has too much trebles after 2kHz. They are so beautiful with the blue kevlar ...
I also tested the KRK RP4 but when you listen to music at low volume, they go stand by ... thus I return them ....
since you've mention the krk how are they compared to e4.5?
@@uabybra i solded the RP4 after few months because this standby ... when i listen music chill at low volume they turn off ... no problem with eris 4.5 very cool speakers for the price ;)
3.5 for me...the price and the sound...wow !
BIG THANK YOU. The best review ever made.
Too bad.
4s all the way, its like listening to music though same speaker in your house or at a stadium
Both have the same sound "signature", just the 4.5 add more weight to the bass without add distortion or caps the mids or highs. So, 4.5 is better.
Thank you for this compare mate 👍
I think it's worth to spend more on E4.5.
What if you had a really small room? Would that make the 3.5 a better fit? Thanks. I am just not sure if it is worth going for 1 inch more, when I won't really listen to them loudly.
Ofc . 4.5 has more warmth due to more lows
..
The E4,5's has a much bigger low-end.
thats what i needed to hear
@@25566 i heard it is sometimes bad while mixing but idk if you know your monitors well, then it wont matter, just saying

Thanks a lot. I had the Ceres 3.5 but sent them back. I'm hoping the Ceres 4.5 are almost identical to eris
What are you talking about ? There are many bass guitar freq that goes deep and low so ofc there is bass freq in black metal
Thank you for choosing music that was varied and played with instruments as well as digital samples. I've seen too many speaker demos that do not use music recorded in a studio but created in a computer. I have both in my library but having the full range particularly the classical and big band style really completes the picture.
Very well pointed out

super job comparing these two sets of monitors. Listening to your comparison clips the 4.5s sound "fuller" with better frequency response, but they also sound a little heavier at the bottom end. Do you think that the 4.5s overstate low tones and the 3.5s understate them? Which pair do you think makes for a more accurate mix?

Wow the only reason to drop another benjamin ($200 vs $100) is the Bass but I literally couldn't hear a difference in the 100 ... 50 Hz Bass test !!
Anyone have a very low hum around 50/60hz when the speakers are idle? (not a ground loop)
I've taken these back to the music shop to test and they found the same problem with nothing plugged in...

@@liltrboofficial4671 hi there. I ended up ordering Mackie CR4X. I recommend checking out the comparison of them with the Eris 4.5 on this channel.
