- Today we take a look at the Refyne EP1, my first experience with a bolt-action style pen and holy crap they are fun! $39 for the PVD coated stainless steel in black or gunmetal, or $65 for polished Titanium! It weighs only 0.9oz (Ti), and 1.2oz (SS), and measures 4.5” long. It’s damn near perfect & comes w/ one of my all-time favorite refills, the Schmidt Easyflow 9000.

Those look nice. I really like the size and the simplicity. It’s cool how it buries completely on that slip. Makes for a nice compact way to carry the three items.

This is a great pen, bought it to always have one on my motorcycle, but I find myself wishing I had it on me everywhere. Bolt action is smooth and fun to actuate. Most importantly, I really like how it writes. Great review!

Do you feel like it's on the short side? I have a TactileTurn small bolt pen and everytime I click it to open it I end up writing on my palm.

Hi Sean, are you still using your Pilot Metropolitan???
Take a look at Tactile Turn, they come in two sizes and has knurling for a better grip. Tactile Turn is owned by Will Hodges and you can contact him and see if he can provide one for review. I believe he is located in Texas. I have one of his first generation pens and the machining, fit and finish is excellent. He is a machinest and he makes his own components instead of buying generic off the rack ones.

Hey Barry! I’m still loving the Metropolitan, it’s fantastic & I’ve had no less than 5 friends buy one and they all love it!
I’ve looked at Tactile Turn quite a bit actually, his stuff looks amazing. He’s based about 45 minutes from where I currently live , which is about 10 minutes from where I grew up! I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about his products. His are definitely at another level of custom design and fabrication that’s for sure. I’m sure I’ll end up with one of his pens before long. His bolt action pen looks so good, and even the click pen is quite appealing, especially in Aluminum or in brass for only $69-$79. Today’s my birthday, maybe I’ll have to treat myself! Lol.
I did just buy a pre-owned Ti Pocket Pro from Big Idea Designs. I’m excited to try that one out.

Great pen! My only issue is that barely any use and it’s already gets splotchy and not working so will need to find a good refill replacement for it
Great content!! Thanks for the review brotha, I'm liking the look of these guys, definitely can't beat the price I was looking at some Ti pens and you definitely can't beat the $65 price tag. Only complaint I have is the clip looks pretty wide, but I think I could definitely get over it.
Right on! Yeah, the clip is certainly wider than most that I’ve handled, but it hasn’t yet been an issue ergonomically or in carrying it. But you’re right, the price is pretty darn appealing for sure. Thanks for watching Frankie!

Hey, Nick! Thanks for watching. If you go to the listing for the Titanium version there should be a little drop-down menu to select your “color”. That’s where you can choose between Ti, Black, and Gunmetal.
Now that I say that I just went and checked and you’re right, there is no other option, they just have sold out of the black & gray (probably not because of me though, lol). I’ll shoot them a message in IG and see if they can tell me when they’ll be back in stock.

Carl Clarke the issue is that amazon prime offers free next day shipping. The Refyne site does not. I actually contacted refine directly and they offered me 10% off to cover the difference.

Hey Randy! Thanks so much! I’d have to say that the stainless variety of this pen is probably my current favorite under $50. I also really love the Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen at around $25. But I’m still a sucker for my budget Zebra’s!

Have you seen the refyne p1. It’s part flashlight part bolt action pen, on the website it says it’s 45 dollars which seems way too god to be true. Not so sure how legit it is

What kind of leather notebook is that?
Hey there. It’s called the “Notebook Wallet” and is made my Redeemed Creations Co. Mine happens to be in Horween English Tan leather and costs $65. Here’s a link to their website: redeemedcreationsco.com
How smoothly do they write?
Depends entirely on the cartridge you use. The one they include is the Schmidt easyFLOW 9000 which is one of my all-time favorites - it’s super smooth. But it will accept any Parker G2 style refill if you have a preference.
