I'm glad you did this video. You pointed out small details that no other video I seen has. I totally agree with you I have 10 cars so far and only one needed a little oil to the trucks. I personally like when the door doesn't open smoothly because they always seem to open when running and I really like how the coupler is set a 1/8" in... brings the cars closer together. Best video I seen on these cars. Thank you!!!
OUTSTANDING review Joker. Personally I don’t feel the price of the Lionel car justifies the price vs the RMT Car. I have RMT Box Cars and Lionel. Yes, there are differences but not for a 40.00 increase for Lionel. Many people go with Lionel because their long history and the name Lionel, it’s what they have always purchased. One issue with RMT is their lack of a big selection of road names. I like RMT and actually have four RMT Box Cars currently in the mail to me. I have two others in my collection. You can’t beat 34.00+ for a brand new box car with the details RMT’s have. I agree with your opinion and fair review!
A very good review. The detail is so close, that you really can't spot the differences and even those are very minor. I like the extra detail on the boxcar door, with the signage on the plaque. The undercarriage is the same on both and replicates the brake rigging fairly accurately. The price difference makes this a no-brainer, in my opinion. You can buy four-to-five RMT cars for the price of two Lionel cars. Phoebe Snow was a term used as a mascot by Lackawanna, since they burned Anthracite coal, which burned clean and didn't leave a bunch of soot, compared to other types of coal. As always, an excellent review and video.
Only drawback to RMT cars are truck side frames. Looks like roller bearing trucks. Rolling stock during the steam era & for a short time after diesels took over equipped with journal box covers that you lifted to add oil to the journal boxes to prevent a hot box enroute to destination. Like air hose addition similar to Atlas & MTH. Very reasonable pricing.
Great review Joker, I don't own any RMT stuff, but overall that boxcar looks better than the Lionel. The RMT ride height looks better, the interior look better, the wheel-sets look better (you forgot to mention the details on back of the wheels), and the coupler length looks better. If you want a Lionel PS-1 that plays terrible sounds, you can pay $209, I will take the RMT which is just as detailed for $35 For those that say the RMT paint and decal quality is inferior, I can show you plenty of botched Lionel paint and decals
I love this comment. I will be hard pressed to order Lionel PS1 cars going forward. This RMT is really opening people’s eyes I think. Thanks for watching. I appreciate you. 😎
I only have 1 RMT boxcar so far, however, have nearly a dozen on pre-order between ore cars, boxcars, & reefer. If they are all as nice as the first boxcar, I'm sold!!! No more Menards for me for budget rolling stock!!
Look the price is the best part about this, but what people really aren’t talking about is the graphics that are very hit and miss, especially the small print. Basically you get what you pay for. Sometimes the printing is clear and sometimes it’s blurry. Lionel, mth, Atlas, for the most part you never have an issue with printing. Again, you get what you pay for. I like the fantasy schemes as they are different designs to have, outside of that I’ll stick with the better quality cars.
@Jokers_Trains That actually brings up a thought I've had a few times. It would be nice if Lionel would put the minimum curve on their boxes. Too many times, I've had to go digging through the catalogs just to find that piece of information.
None of the new RMT cars contain the correct trucks. The web site drawings show then as correct, but you actually get modern trucks. These 40’ cars all had Bettendorf’s. On 50’, they had both. The steam era reefers actually should have Andrews trucks. These are scale cars and should have the correct trucks. They will most likely lose some appeal to the serious scale operators. Great price at my dealer @ 28 bucks. I guess these will help folks without a large, expensive Lionel PS-1 collection already. Also, newbies. Nice graphics as well. Common box car roads have all been made over the years, probably 5 times over. These are mainly identical to Lionel's PS-1’s with a few different small details. Probably made in the same factory. Even the interior bulkhead and bottoms are the same as on some Lionel PS-1’s. The Lionel car is higher due to the trucks. RMT does look better lower as like Atlas O master and Lionel PS-4 flats. I am still waiting, now year 4 for the wood chip cars. No one else ever made that type. If the trucks are also modern, I will replace them with K-Line spring trucks and add MTH stirrup steps. Hopefully they will navigate on tight Atlas O O36 curves which is not tested in the video. Love Round House South, went there in the late 80 or 90's.
RMT is a game changer if they keep this up. I tickled the LIKE button for you.
They could become a real player
So glad RMT broke the O Scale world with these. Good shit man.
I feel like they did. Thanks for watching. 😎

That’s a good point about the doors. Thanks for the comment I really appreciate it.
Nice review and video!
Thanks.

I agree. It’s hard to beat RMT here. They really nailed it.
Great review, I'm in the market for some. Love the no nonsense in your review. BTW those air line thingys are called glad hands.
Thanks dathan. Appreciate the real terminology
Solid review!
Thanks!

I agree with your comment. Thanks for watching John.
For the price, these cars have incredible detail.
i agree sir
The coupler tab is the same style K-line reefers used.
Oh, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
Good video
Thanks.

I agree with that but for the price I can let it slide
@@Jokers_Trains It's not a deal breaker for me. I would just change over the trucks.
Great review. Your audio seems a bit off?
Thanks tristan, does i will have to go back and listen to it
I bought one at York and was blown away.
I wish I had picked one up at York.

Let me know if they are not all of the same quality

That is a good point. I will have to look at some other RMT at the hobby shop to see if i can find some that are not as good
Makes me wonder if we’re paying to much for our scale freight cars if that’s $35
This car is scale
@ I’m saying if this scale car is $35 maybe we’re over paying for other scale cars pushing $100
Maybe you mentioned it, and I just missed it, but what's the minimum curve on the RMT?
It doesnt say on the box but i am assuming it O31 like the lionel
@Jokers_Trains That actually brings up a thought I've had a few times. It would be nice if Lionel would put the minimum curve on their boxes. Too many times, I've had to go digging through the catalogs just to find that piece of information.
Them cars came out the same factoria...
That makes alot of sense. They are really the same car
Price is right!
For sure
