Actually, that's a nice looking home. And when you see the full episode, you see a nice neighborhood. But then you go to your mom's hood and everything looks like crap.
"How to" - But where did that mythical 12v supply wire hanging out come from?? This is the equivalent of saying how to add a new light receptacle, but not showing the wires being ran or junction box being installed, only showing the fixture being wired up.
3:54 Wait until it's dark? It would have been nice if they would have said that stand then they would have gone to a dark scene and showed the lights and how they looked at night?
@@Kevin-mp5of kidding right? That wire was tucked up into the vynl and will never see water and they fully shrinked and taped the connections anyway. A full length shrink would barely make a difference. Almost overkill.
Oh ya I forgot electrical tape is waterproof! Lol I mean don’t get me wrong were they put the connection it will be perfectly fine but it’s not a watertight connection.
Nice little educational video, but on an exterior application where do you place the LED driver so that it is not an eye sore and protected from the elements.
Running the cable is the hard part of that job, but I guess that’s best left to a pro. But don’t fit the cover into the track before testing that the strip lights up! You don’t have to wait until dark for that, although showing us the finished effect after sunset would have been the obvious and professional thing to do.
Needs to learn what Flux is and how to use it, If you notice the connection after he soldered it youi can still see bare copper in the solder joint. Flux core solder is NOT what it's hyped up to be, Theres so little flux in the solder you have to flood the joint with solder to get enough solder to slean and prep the connection. No-corrode solder paste is the only way to do it.
Hmm, why use such an old fashioned method? Soldering went out with the Ark. If you get a duff joint then back to the beginning. And why no test before applying the shrink wrap? All in all not a very satisfactory demonstration. Might be a more sensible method to use bootlace ferrules and Wago 221 connectors. At least you can get a meter on the test point for fault finding.
Possibly they have a new production team who are tasked with editing entire ToH TV episodes down to a few minutes solely for posting on YT? Perhaps they have edited an entire sequence into bite size chunks so easily and readily digested? Perhaps next time we see the apprentice being trained on how the work the light switch?
That solder job was terrible, he was painting that solder on vs letting it flow. There are a lot of people asking where is the finished product but these are more in depth shorts that come from full episodes.
There are solderjoints on the market who solder and shrink in one pass... Why don’t you use this? I recommend to run a thicker power cable with the strip and connect them every few ft. especially on longer strips. If not the most away from power feed are way darker than the ones close to the connector. And btw: a ledstrip is nothing without a proper controller and a gateway to your home automation system. Pls see thehookup or dr zzzs channel to get to actual standards.
They started half way through the install when the transformer installed and wire run... Then didn't get a night shot of it lit up... Ummmm, why are you showing this video @ThisOldHouse?
At this point I'm beginning to think This Old House is just trolling us by never showing the finished product.
They showed us how to install outdoor led lighting.
@@timbohouston Yeah but this is like watching a cooking show that never shows you how the food looks cooked.
Yep. Downvoted the video to oblivion. What the hell is wrong with them?
film crew didn’t want to stick around to get the night shot lol
Must have been a shady neighborhood.
Actually, that's a nice looking home. And when you see the full episode, you see a nice neighborhood. But then you go to your mom's hood and everything looks like crap.
At least they could’ve gotten a pic from the home owner.
@Marty McFly You have your terms confused...race isn't a factor of a persons' poor living conditions in a economically-depressed-area. That's choice.
Come on. show what it looks like in the dark.
And the finished product demonstration? Lol
As is customary with toh you dont get to see the finished product😂😂😂
Not this video unfortunately.
They left the job site and never went back at night to see lol
You weren’t invited to the party.
They pluged it on 120v ... boommm
Should have shown the lights at night.
Pat Masherelli I’m sorry, there is no product demonstration on this video
Wtf, no party time?
This video was absolutely pointless.
"How to" - But where did that mythical 12v supply wire hanging out come from??
This is the equivalent of saying how to add a new light receptacle, but not showing the wires being ran or junction box being installed, only showing the fixture being wired up.
It’s all for tv. Nothing was connected lol
Really. I did a very similar project for my deck, so I know all of the things they did not show. Big let down for me.
how to install outdoor lighting
finished product: some imagination required.
Hello, could you please provide a link to the actual lighting system that’s being demonstrated in this video?
Soooooo, how did it look at night?!!
:-(
Show the result!!
3:54 Wait until it's dark? It would have been nice if they would have said that stand then they would have gone to a dark scene and showed the lights and how they looked at night?
Omg why wouldn't you show us the outcome???
How to peel tape backing. Thanks.
Instead of the electrical tape use a large diameter shrink tubing to slide over both wires.
@@Kevin-mp5of kidding right? That wire was tucked up into the vynl and will never see water and they fully shrinked and taped the connections anyway. A full length shrink would barely make a difference. Almost overkill.
@@Kevin-mp5of do you honestly think that homeowner will EVER have an issue with that connection? Seriously
Heat shrink tubing is not a waterproof connection.
You’re right.
But he wrapped the wires in electrical tape
Oh ya I forgot electrical tape is waterproof! Lol I mean don’t get me wrong were they put the connection it will be perfectly fine but it’s not a watertight connection.
Well, the wiring is inside what is effectively plastic trunking, and is only 12v.
Not exactly a hazard.
@@elitheelectronicsguy Could have used self amalgamating tape I suppose.
Could you please tell me the website you order the parts from.
Amazon, cheap as, and some have remote to change colours.
Might have to source a PSU to convert mains to 5v or possibly 12v, but again cheap as.
Nice little educational video, but on an exterior application where do you place the LED driver so that it is not an eye sore and protected from the elements.
3:03 you never do what at 120v junction? What is okay because it's 12 volt junction?

What happened to party time?
Wish I coils see the finish product as well and maybe link to the product.
I think we all agree they left without showing us how it looked in the night.🤦♂️
What was the product being used? Any links for the lights? I would love to install these lights around my house!
Another successful finished product demonstration....Jesus...RUclips amateurs are better than this.
Assume this didn't work in the end?
How do you not show the finished product?
Homeowner turned on lights later that night...blew a fuse in the electrical box then outside canopy caught 🔥
How did you guess???!!!
As if by wild coincidence I gather ToH are featuring an entire house rebuild ... in that very location ...
Mad or wot!!?
I wanted to see the finished project
They should put the products they use in the description.
How do you guys NOT have a shot of the nighttime finished job?
Its a benificial vid👍
What happened to the original sparky?
here are wires that magically grow out of the house
Nice gonna have to suggest to my customers
Love the show, love the guys, but this video was lacking. Really should've shown the lights at night to bring it all together.
Thumb down at least a picture of the finished product....
I agree with you this is really a disservice for the viewer who may be on the fence about spending the extra money for something like that.
This old house videos give me blue balls. "Let's see how it looks... just kidding, bye!"
Cool application but what about getting the power supply install ? would be just as - or more - helpful

Aaaaaaand no need to test it. Moving on!
Mine comes without backing tape on it !! I don't know how to use it ..

Hey TOH, What is happening to your videos??? This new format is not working.
Bad connection ? Didn’t work ? Hello
About 58 seconds into the video the UL listing number and company name are shown. Alloy LED
I was hoping to see a night video shot with the lights on
Still don't have any idea of how to install this
Come on guys show the product and the end result. Thank you
"Oooooh! That turned out great!"
Electrician here. Not going to be bright enough LOL
I would’ve installed a track on every other beam
When’s the party?
Probably didn’t work.
Add a short clip at end so we can see it light up in the night.
That solder job was terrible, he was painting that solder on vs letting it flow. There are a lot of people asking where is the finished product but these are more in depth shorts that come from full episodes.
The apprentice appears to like his apprenticeship
Is it just me or did we not even get to see the results?
Just you. Watch again.
It looked great at night...oh wait 🤔
This channel is just a continuous rick roll.
You never show the end result. C'mon!!
U know if you posted the product info and showed the final project results you'd probable sale a bunch and make some money.....
They dont "sale" the product.
@@Jg.Wintworth with a lick of business sence they'd get a percent.

Don't forget the thumbs down when you leave!!!
I guess the double waterproof connection didn’t work
These segments suck.
Another crap video from TOH. Looks like this is the new normal. I’m out.
those lights looked great wtf
I WANA SEE IT AT NIGHT..................O MAN, NO FAIR
Did not even show the results of what it looked like. Also a little vague on the details.

In my experience most customers just want a regular on/off switch, or dimmer switch at the most.
Where’s The most satisfying part of the video?
Love this apprenticeship series ... Give people an opportunity to do and they will!!
SO................... Do they live in Alaska?? It never got dark. We are still waiting. 🤔🤦🏽♂️
They started half way through the install when the transformer installed and wire run... Then didn't get a night shot of it lit up...
Ummmm, why are you showing this video @ThisOldHouse?
Thanks for NOT showing a ta da moment lighting them up at night!
no night shot. shoddy video production. lol
De’shaun is in the house yo, party gon be lit
Turn the brightness down on you iPad or computer to view lighting 😆😆
Wait..... What... Come back and turn the lights on you left me in the dark.
This whole comment section is a bunch of cry babies.
AND?
Ways This Old House failed in this video.
1) Did not show how to run power or LED driver unit (if applicable)
it didn't work so you didn't show us the end? 🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥🤥
So I watch the entire video and then you don't show the end product on how it looks at night, what a joke.
Love your videos even keeping them up In the pandemic
Downvoted it cause it didn’t show the finished product in action
The fact that they didn't show it lit up at night for the finished project, tells me that this came out terrible and didn't work.
WTG TOH! 👎
Without fail. No finished product every time.
They literally just showed us how to shrink tube 2 wires and peel an adhesive back. Well done TOH! (useless)
Ridiculous how this doesn't even show the illumination at night. Why waste our time on this nonsense?
Come on...could've taken a vid at night!
This could have been a lot better if they used Wifi connected LED smart light tape.
It doesn't work, eh?
💩 VIDEO BECAUSE WHAT DID YOU SHOW?
Indian current voltage 230 50 HZ is urs cuntry
After all that they don't show what it looked like at night. Boo!
You did it totally wrong Doug.
Bob Vila is not impressed. Guess ToH is dead.
And it never worked lol..
