Debbie and I spent a large part of our day in a continuing education class to maintain our Oregon licenses. Several RUclips videos were shown including one in which Jay Leno demonstrated the correct start up and operation of a Stanley Steam Car, one of the important pointers offered by Mr. Leno was…”When you’re approaching a stop sign in a Steam Car be sure to close the throttle well in advance of your need to stop as a steam engine always has several good chugs left after the throttle is closed” which caused me to think of this……. After the war and before he married my father worked in Alaska off and on, he tells of driving from Boise to Alaska in a car that unknown to him was stolen, but that’s a different story. My father operated heavy machinery building roads, dams, and sometimes rail road grades, so he had a job working for a contractor that was building rail road grade in Alaska and it wasn’t that great a job for many reason including swamps, boggs, mud, skeeters, and a difficult superintendent, he said most of the men on the crew were unsure which was more unpleasant, the skeeters or the superintendent. On the day long ago that this tale takes place things are not going well and have not been going well for some time, early in the day a large dozer (D8 or D9?) has gotten into the deep mud and become stuck all the way to the floor boards, completely and hopelessly stuck. The superintendent directs the crew to attach a large wire rope to the stuck dozer and hook the other end of the wire rope to a second large dozer, the superintendent gives the sign and both operators get up on the dozers and after much effort we now have TWO large dozers completely buried in the nasty thick mud. Dad said the superintendent comes completely unhinged and throws an embarrassing tantrum and then develops a new surefire plan. Building a rail road grade requires a lot of materials, hundreds of thousands of tons of rock, rail road rails and cross ties, spikes…..you get the picture…..a lot of supplies, and the best way to move these supplies to this remote location was via the rail road. A work train was closely following the crew building the right of way and this figured into the superintendent’s plan to free his stuck machinery, he directed that a wire rope be connected to the nearest stuck dozer and then lashed to the front of the steam locomotive pulling the work train which had LOTS of tractive effort. Because the wire rope is at an angle to the rail road tracks and locomotive the superintendent further directs the crew to run the rope thru a very large skookum block firmly chained to the rail road tracks so the locomotive will have a straight pull on the rope. Now everyone is once again in their places and the superintendent gives the signal, the operators out on the dozers in the mud hole give’er the works and the steam locomotive begins to move backwards slowly. All of my rigging friends can see what’s about to happen…….the dozers labor mightily but stay firmly stuck in the deep mud…..the steam locomotive possessing huge tractive effort continues backwards……and the large skookum block pulls the rail road tracks off of the top of the grade and into the deep mud with the two dozers! The superintendent screams STOP!STOP!STOP! Remember Mr. Leno’s advice? The steam engine still has a couple chugs in it and then stops. This is where the superintendant makes the final mistake of the afternoon, he runs over near the Engineer’s window on the steam locomotive and throws a Donald Duck Fit, throws his hat onto the ground and is cussing and name calling the Engineer, the Engineer doesn’t work for the construction company, he worked for the rail road and didn’t like the name calling and cussing. My father said the locomotive Engineer half climbed and half jumped out of the locomotive and kicked a fat turd out of the superintendant nearly a foot longer than a rake handle then climbed back in the steam engine and left for town. Dad said the superintendant was a little more subdued and easier to work with after this. The morale of this story is be nice and when ya see a stop sign coming up remember to ease off the throttle soon enough.
At the beginning of the video it looked like the loader just pulled the 9 right up out of there. I thought wow came right out pretty easy. But you go on to explain in the video that you lifted it up with the blade and ripper and used the loader to push material under the tracks and even put some 4x4’s at the back to help. Good plan! Seemed to work quite well. As well like you said “not spinning it down” That makes such a difference. I’m sure the new extreme use pads helped a little too!! Glad it came out without too much difficulty. Enjoyed watching how systematically approached this project and planned out your next move. There were sink holes everywhere there just waiting to get you. Thanks for sharing and keep on pushing!
Great video Jeff glad you were able to get your D9G out of the holes it was in with a little Help from the 930 loader. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Jeff.
The video of front watching the blade and hearing that old girl working turbo just whistling away. Absolutely loved it. Love running the old iron any day!!
My ah was puckered up when the 930 was pulling you out. As you say the key was not to let it spin. And yes the decal is 100% square as I see it from Wexford Ireland! Great work , & great job J.
It makes easy work getting out the bubbles - mop down the painted surface with soapy water first. Then you can slide the decal wherever you want and force the bubbles with a putty knife or plastic trowel.
that dozer is moving some serious material per pass with the grousers and blade.I spent a lot of my youth running a 9 with power shift and cable pushing a 641 scraper.
So what are the new things that you've noticed with the new you dozer and the new tracks and undercarriage. Obviously there's going to be some extreme advantages but what have you noticed being running that machine for years and years and then putting new undercarriage on it what makes it better now than it was before
Just got through watching this one , now watching the 1st , there is a method to my madness somewhere, not sure . Boy the old Kill dozer with the new BIG WIDE Tracks and those rippers set it apart from the rest . Don’t be disheartened being stuck a couple of times. I know you will prevail my friend. Keep fighting the good fight. And by the way I Love the D9G stickers.
Could you please do a video of how you operate all the pedals and when you operate the decelerator pedal and what exactly does what I have always wondered how the deceleration pedal is used
I'm surprised the potato factory isn't screening the potato washings & selling it as a Grade 1 topsoil & composting the waste potatoes... There's some $$$'s in those waste commodities...
Liquid dirt is bad enough and so easy to find the soft spots in with something that heavy... Actually I'm pretty impressed Killdozer didn't get stuck more often. But, what I can't imagine is the smell of that crap... May I suggest a tiny dab of Vicks Vapor Rub on the tip of your nose to kill the smell. I had to repair a our rental D6 at a trash dump, and Whew that stunk.. The Vicks keep me from throwing up...
What is the plan for all that beautiful compost? Is the farm just having you push it out over rocks to make a new field or are the carting it out and spreading it like manure? Get a mulch turner and throw some other stuff (yard waste?) in. You would be earning $$$
You sure get Yourself into some interesting situations Jeff. I'm happy that it wasn't any worse. Trying to float #110500 in rotten potatoe soup. Dang it Jeff. Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction.
Hey up Jeff you must feel good walking on those new tracks to get in cab knowing you've done all that work hopefully you have started to forget the pain, 9 looks super sweet now, have ya bumped into an Ozzy farming channel called Jackson brothers they have a mighty D4 and a couple of tiny D11s
Spray the area with Dawn dish soap and water...peal the back of the sticker, spray it and then place it where you want it....the soap water mixture lets you manipulate it to where you want it and square it up...then squeegee the soap water mixture out from under the sticker...
Million dollar pile of dung right there. Idaho potatos, best damn potatos in the world. The hidden secrets to producing these wonderful products is very interesting. Jeff wins, even sinkholes won't stop him.
😂😂 Trick to putting the stickers on is a spray bottle full of water an small amount of soap spray the back that allows you to move the sticker easy to glide the water out with that scraper. Good job ❤❤❤ nice move not spinning the tracks sinking the 9 deeper 😢😢
You might try pulling 90 degrees from the ripper shank, keep you hands off the steering clutches and engage reverse while pulling with the loader, the tracks will find new ground and traction and walk right out. I used this method many times with success many moons ago.
Man, Jeff, what did you get yourself into. I guess you need to test the limits on your D9 after all the upgrades 😂😂. Hopefully, you win soon and get back to solid ground before you burry the tractor for good.
Just goes to show you they still have some good people in the world that will come check up on you and watch out for your equipment beings you are a little way from home
Was there water under that ,and dirt got pushed into the water. If so it will never be solid .That sure is a nice 9 tho I've ran D-3s all the way up to a D-10.Ive never ran a 11 or even been around one to see just how big it is .Your saving yourself alot of money doing the mechanic work yourself.
hi could you not use a track hoe to move wet out then use d9 to layout thin use sun to help dry out the muck places you don't need track hoe use it windrow /lay dry /wet mix in rows
back in the mid 90s the contractor i worked for hauling heavy equipment to jobsites got a D8L stuck they had to use a 300 Komatsu track hoe to drag it out backwards
I don't get it. I spent the last two days on a Cat 963 pushing off broken concrete and Dirt. Come home and watch a good Friend pushing mud, and eating dust. Must be a disease or Diesel in the blood. Thanks for Sharing Oh and Yup wearing my Anderson Const Cap TGP
that new undercarriage must be f@#$&^g sweet ... getting the power to the ground!... that u blade must be f#@$%^g sweet too!! jeff your such and insperation to me ... and lots others to i bet! make a commentary in a future video about it can u tell a difference with it hooking up now( how worn were the old grousers 30percent of new ?ttyl! switchblade turby! blaylock turbo guys!! like and subcribe too!
That Lava will take a year to dry out , try pushing a 1/4 of the blade . If you could plow it and shove it away by its self put it in small rows too dry out . Sounds like and 336 excavator gob . Potatoes rotting are worse than mud because they never rot down below ground because they are full of water .
I had to repair a section of theyre waste water line a few month back at theyre rexburg plant where i believe you are. Man that stuff would burn your eyes and i got my cat rental 320 buryed in mud but luckily got it out with some finess lol got some good pictures from it, basic American foods is a good company to do work for and dont be afraid to bid high with them if you know what i mean
I've been doing this kind of work a long long time, I'm very reasonable with them so they always call back, I couldn't bid this one, just to many unknowns. by the hour on this one. you from Poki?
Just think .how some triangle .lgp tracks do .still it test us .nothing .like hvn butt clenching contractions . . . Been there .ha . . . . Hv fun . I'm pushing for you. .bring two tractors .small light .that's what I did .saves the stress cheers . 🍻 wish I was there helping

Spray the back of decal with windex and it will not have any air bubbles and you can also readjust before it evaporates.
Great video Jeff glad you were able to get your D9G out of the holes it was in with a little Help from the 930 loader. Looking forward to your next video stay safe Jeff.

Good job mate love watching you work with the old d 9 she is a beauty
Watching machines getting pulled out stresses me out 😂😂 been there done that. Nice work👍🏼
Extra sprinkles there Jeff, only for experienced winners!
Great all round video bro you sure have some good friends. Safe travels. Ken.
That ol’ girl kin push some dirt! 👍

Been stuck a thousand times pushing mud out of Texas stock tanks, usually a D7E,F,G...don't ever want to get a 9G stuck.
Whenever those guys bring a load of potatoes, they should take a load of dirt back with them!
Liquid dirt is bad enough and so easy to find the soft spots in with something that heavy... Actually I'm pretty impressed Killdozer didn't get stuck more often. How look it has the mud been sitting and drying? Is the dirt from last year?
Jeff in the Muck for the win👍👍👍👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
A excavator with lgp undercarriage, excavator matraces and a high volume shovel is usually used when dredging a manure/compost pit
You sure get Yourself into some interesting situations Jeff. I'm happy that it wasn't any worse.
Trying to float
#110500 in rotten potatoe soup.
Dang it Jeff.
Best Wishes to everyone at Anderson Construction.
Heck yeah that's a good decal for great dozer. Either way Jeff wins.
I would have never thought a 930 would get that out
note to self ... dont bury organics deep .. fan em out up top !

WOW, its like workng n sand.. who'd thought dirt could act like that.

Million dollar pile of dung right there. Idaho potatos, best damn potatos in the world. The hidden secrets to producing these wonderful products is very interesting. Jeff wins, even sinkholes won't stop him.
Looks like and excavator job to assist the D9
😂😂 Trick to putting the stickers on is a spray bottle full of water an small amount of soap spray the back that allows you to move the sticker easy to glide the water out with that scraper. Good job ❤❤❤ nice move not spinning the tracks sinking the 9 deeper 😢😢

I can smell it through display...remember it not fondly.
is there a bottom? how many years of "dirt" is there?
Jeff knows what he is doing.
how many "seals" are on the s.a.l.t rails compared to reg? each pin
You need a dragline to move that mess!
It's like playing in the sandbox
Sandbox is not realy the problem, to get a D9H to play with is the deal (not to spend 5000$ for a detailed push scale model).
How many actual hours would say you have in the seat of
a crawler?
Looks like they waited a long time to have it done. Needs to be done more often,
whats up with that "race" 2 pod aluminum gage bracket under dash in dozer?
Man, Jeff, what did you get yourself into. I guess you need to test the limits on your D9 after all the upgrades 😂😂. Hopefully, you win soon and get back to solid ground before you burry the tractor for good.
I can’t imagine the kind of problems an operator with lesser skills would be having.
Little feel from the ride and a little use of the muscle between your ears goes a long way.
Go get you some french fries and laugh while you eat 'em !
Just goes to show you they still have some good people in the world that will come check up on you and watch out for your equipment beings you are a little way from home
That's pretty tough to push being in condition,do you think the D7 would do better if you had it going?
Good looking topsoil, might be another revenue stream!
LOL that loader goin back n forth whats he doin flerting with KD? she a taken lady
Can you dig drainage with an excavator to get rid of the water?
Jeff- have you thought about using a "Yankum toe rope" when any piece of equipment is stuck? Guys like using them.
Is there a bottom to that crap? I would dig them a heluva hole just so I could get to good dirt.
I don’t always have fries, but when I do...
JEFF WINS!

Naptha will help remove the old sticker adhesive. Won't harm the paint either.
Lived close to a Frito Lay Plant in KS...F'ING Rotten!!! Nasty
Piece of cake !

How great to see the benefits of the undercarriage work right out of the gate!!
Maybe having a G on one side and H on the other is giving Killdozer some identity problems!
How 'bout some butter to go with those mashed potatoes Jeff? Hope you get through the job without really getting bellied out in that stuff.
How do you deal with those teeny car mirrors on your truck ??
I can't see anyway so it doesn't matter lol
When they’re stuck they stuck.
that new undercarriage must be f@#$&^g sweet ... getting the power to the ground!... that u blade must be f#@$%^g sweet too!! jeff your such and insperation to me ... and lots others to i bet! make a commentary in a future video about it can u tell a difference with it hooking up now( how worn were the old grousers 30percent of new ?ttyl! switchblade turby! blaylock turbo guys!! like and subcribe too!
I cannot lay a piece of vinyl without getting air bubbles in it to save my life
A boys their toys I’m so jealous
That loader looked too small for the job, good tv

Is the white building a potato chip factory?
Jeff does decuuuls.

Not your first got cat stuck in mud. Breaking vacuum under dozer, blade lift front, ripper to break vacuum. Cat's just pop out of mud!
I had to repair a section of theyre waste water line a few month back at theyre rexburg plant where i believe you are. I take it you passed on mashed potatoes for dinner?
Canadians would call it a deckell..
decal dekal LOL yup I forgot about that
Jeff your going to have to keep that big nylon toe rope that some guy sent you in your truck
👍🏻
Wouldn't a excavator do this job easier?
