I love the joint learning experience of this video-warts and all. Glad you were able to change the radio to accept three digits to the right of the decimal. Experienced pilots may correct me on this, but in the US, ATC frequencies are in 25 kHz increments: .000, .025, .050. .075. You don’t have enter the last digit (0 or 5). It’s assumed. ATC has more than one way to radar identify you. When you depart an airport IFR, you normally have your transponder code set and transmitting before starting take off. If you check in with Departure within 1 mile of the runway and your flight data is displayed on the radar screen, that is one form of radar identification. If you check in beyond 1 mile, the controller will have you ident or reset transponder code and ident. That will cause an “ID” to flash on their screen next to your flight data. That is another form of radar identification. Finally, if neither of those work, the controller will give you heading of 30° or greater from your current course. They may give a second heading of 30° or more to verify the blip they are watching moves in the assigned direction. If all is good you are radar identified by this method. Thereafter, they will issue a heading to get you on your flight plan’s course. If they give you a heading to a VOR then own navigation, you can proceed direct the VOR as soon as you dial it in. Once over the VOR you follow your flight plan route. You are no longer on radar vectors. Keep the great videos coming. You are truly a simming treasure.
This was a fantastic watch 🤣. It's great how an AI can teach but still make it fun. I'd love to see more flights like this, I'm having lots of fun watching from afar being an Xbox Pilot.
I enjoyed every minute of that. I never use ATC , but I could change my mind after your videos. I flew my last Vampire (RAF) on August 29th 1951 when ATC used very different language from nowadays! I still have problems with the "new" alphabet. Is 95 too old to cope I wonder.
If you haven't done so yet, link your navigraph account in the pilot's portal. That will address some of the comms inconsistencies. BTW, you don't need flaps in the TBM on a long runway like that.
Well, anything must be better than the built in ATC - flew today and it had me take off on Runway 27, but on return landing on Runway 06. Was a bit surprised but went with it, only to meet an AI jetliner coming at me head on just after touchdown. Runway excursion by me, followed by nosedive and crashout. GRRRR. Hope Say Intensions works properly.
Uhhh... Did you do your departure? Looks like you took off and went on course instead of z0000003 or whatever it was. Also, is there a realism setting you can set to get ATC to be a bit more realistic- so if you don't do your readbacks, they request it again?
had a very bad experience on vatsim yesterday so now thinking of say intentions and paying for it but I can`t even get started --- keeps saying e mail and password invalid ????? can`t win !!
@@Huddison I was departing EGKK to EGCC. Filed flight plan in simbrief. I made the mistake of assuming dep 26 l or 26 r on MAM 6M sid. Then taxi instructions were to 08 R which meant I had to change sid to LAM 1z which I changed in the FMC. Took off and turned on AP and LNAV. AC started to follow the SID and then when I was close to LAM I was told by controller Kye on London that I was 40 miles off course !! So I tried to rectify this. I apologised on PM and said that I had not flown VATSIM for a very long time and he said basically to go away and learn off line. I have PPL IMC NIGHT AND TWIN ratings and so I took this as an insult and disrespectful. Did not bother complaining to him. Flew to LAM and disconnected. And so, although I hate the idea of AI taking over everything I will probably do most of my flying now on sayintentions or the other one -- whichever is best. I enjoy VATSIM and I have the utmost respect for those people who give up their time for free to serve the community but this guy Kye was well out of order.I still have not sorted my propblems with sasyintentions. Will try to resolve today or tomorrow but I do not want my subscription to begin until I press push to talk the first time !!!!!
@SurvivingRetirement That's shocking to hear, re your vatsim experience. Some controllers need to realise that they are talking to people with far more real-life experience than themselves (or simply need to learn a few basic manners).
now its working I have done a flight out of Manchester which I will report on later. Today I thought I would do circuits out of High Wycombe Booker but kept telling me no one is listening -- is this because Beta does not cover small uk airfields yet

Valuable added information - many thanks.

Thanks Suzie 😊 I do wish something similar will appear on Xbox before long.
I really enjoyed this...enjoyed the stress and the mess-ups as well. It makes me less intimidated to try this myself.
Give it a try, it's just you and the AI machine ;)

Wow, 95 is as old as you personally feel - reverse those digits for a brief uplift ;)

It's all fun and games until you try to land and hear: " Sorry Dave I can't let you do that"
That would be every pilots worse nightmare 😆
Bow down to our AI overlords!!! 🤭
Thanks, very much enjoyed this.
That's great to hear; it was also a lot of fun to fly.

It's chalk and cheese compared to the default ATC ;)

Contact them and I'm sure they'll sort it for you; might even be worth resetting your password.
What bad experience did you have on Vatsim?
