Kelly is such a genuinely nice guy..he has been the best representative for surfing g and a huge inspiration to so many...truly the GOAT!!! Forever the champ!!!
Such a sick interview. Two legends reminiscing about the golden days. Haha you guys drew the path for many. I gotta watch the how surfing changes depression with steveo.
Kelly, beyond being an iconic surfer, is one of those guys that has stories for days and such a kind unassuming demeanor. That ever smile on your face Steve gives away just how nice it is to hang w him and share the stories.
Kelly Slater has Always been been my favorite surfer, even though I am 10 years his senior. He always motivates me to be the best Surfer, skater or Snowboarder I can! God Bless you all and him! 👍🏄🏽♂️🛹🏂🏍️✝️
Kellys the Man and Goat. Years ago when my son was a Grom. We went to the Hurley Pro at Lowers Kelly won. But as he was heading out for the final heat he gave my son his wax. My son still has that Wax smells like root beer.
That was the best interview ever, thankyou soo much & Kelly is the most knowledgeable, humble kind spirit humans on this planet. Such a great watch ❤️🙏
@@docskate4312statistically he's won more championships than almost any athlete ever. also has been a competing professional (and winning) in his sport for over 30 years... regardless of what you define as an athlete he is inarguably one of the GOAT's
If you are a skater or surfer from back in the day. Kelly Slater is like a GOD! I am 59 years old and my grandparents had a condo in Cocoa Beach years ago. Him coming from that area made him even more so of a true rockstar! You rule Kelly!! I kinda like you Steve-0!!!!!LOL!!!!!
He has a cat-like agility that no one else has. His intellect and instinct are huge factors in how he competes, he has total mastery of every skill required to be the best. Consistency is also part of his success. GOAT!!!
Great story about the shark encounter at J-Bay. I was watching the stream live. Those 5 seconds where Mick disappeared behind the swell was terrifying. I was thinking we might see Jaws in real time.
It’s great that Kelly speaks nicely about other companies and their wave pools as opposed to most business people who won’t give competitors the time of day. Nice guy
Hey, coming to you from Queensland, Australia 🌏🦘🌏🦘🌏🦘 I grew up watching kelly slater, he was my surf idol , him & Occy and Tom Carrol. This was in 1990, and i was always the only girl surfer usually, lol !! I loved his moves, his raw talent, and obviously his looks, hehehe 😅 , but yeah, he was my absolute favourite surfer. I even made a surfboard just like one of his, it was a 6'3 thruster, with alot of rocker in the nose, and tail, so she flew in the water 🌊💦🌊 , it was a dove tail, if i remember correctly! Wow tho. Those were rhe days. I never lived more than a 5 minute walk from the beach, too. Of course, i have had many skin cancer surgerys, over the years, mostly on my back and face . And my left hip is stuffed. Ive got alot of arthritis setting in aswell. Im nearly 47 lol, but it was worth it !! I was lucky enough to make it to pipeline, and up and down the Australian coast, around Cronulla beach, noosa heads, Bondi, etc, as a teenager and young adult. But surfing does take its toll, as does skateboarding ( i did alot of that too, still do now haha) ive had some spectacular stacks on my deck, and nearly drowned 3 times in the water ( caught in rips, & under the impact zone, eating sand lol😮). But heck, i totally wish you all the best Kelly, may your pain be minimal, and your golf outstanding!!!!! Sending Lotsa love, respect and good vibes from the land of Oz 🎉 🙏❤️🙏
World champ at 20. World champ at 50. Not playing pool or darts or lawn bowling. In a physically demanding sport fighting against nature and people half his age. Legend.
I lived on the North Shore for a while and surfed next to Slater often. My buddy was filming me at Pipe one day, when I came in all these tourists came up to me trying to get pictures and autographs from me. (I am not a Pro at all/ not known) They all asked what it was like to surf with Kelly Slater, I shrug it off cause I didn't know he was out with me. So all these people have pictures of me and think I am this un known Pro surfer that isn't phased by surfing with the GOAT. hahahah. Still one of my favorite memories.
Kelly’s book, “Pipe Dreams,” really demonstrated the great upbringing, clear-eyed maturity, and insight, rarely found by young achievers in any discipline. Hope to have my #7, “Wizard Sleeve,” signiture verified one day.🕉🏄🏾🤙😎
Face the shark, you’re damn right. Same thing happened to me spearfishing in the Bahamas. I had a shark ram me. It circled back and came back for another attack, and when I dropped my fins down in the water, spread my arms and made myself look big and actually made eye contact , it broke off the attack.
Steve-O i hate to be the bearer of bad news, the older you get the more old injuries come back to haunt you. i am an old guy 67yo. been a fan for at least 20 years. thumbs up
Awesome interview. Always a pleasure listening to Kelly tell stories. You guys might wanna turn off autofocus for these podcasts tho. You can see the constant refocusing throughout video. I wonder if the lens is struggling with that furry poster on the wall behind.
Malibu Artist is probably the dude that Kelly mentions here. With the great drone footage of sharks and how they interact with unsuspecting people in the water😊 Great interview guys, dope vibes👌🏻
19:22 As soon as the fish is out of the water the ripples from a fish struggling are gone. They react to those waves. When youre in the water you feel everything. Thats like sound to them. 24:56
Awesome interview - 2 things for next time: 1. Lock in that camera focus - the auto was driving me crazy - I wanna see Kelly as crisp as can be!! 2. Real hard to follow what you are talking about when we don't see the screen you're referencing - try and show that more!!
I met kelly at WRV in Kitty Hawk, NC in the late 90's..super nice, humble, funny guy! I saw him in sports illustrated (they were saying he was going to be the goat back then) in the 80's, he was pretty young. That made me want to surf, which i do (try to do) lol
If Slater checked the working conditions (of the slaves) before building the wavepool in abu dhabi he would have remained the goat. I am a avid surfer for over 20 years but i can not believe Kelly Slater sold out after all ready having everything he needed. Could not believe it and had to check it twice…. So so sad what people are willing to ignore only for money 😥
Awesome podcast! Next time you come to Siargao come visit the northern part of the island for very good and still some empty waves to be had. KS is such a legend, what a life he's had.
Kelly is amazing, Steve-O is amazing, but the fact that the camera could never find focus hurt my eyes a little bit lol. Still, you guys are awesome so who cares about the camera
I haven’t surfed in 10 years went to Oahu for the first time and got back into it. I was at Pipeline, observing, and my God do you have to have brass balls to surf that wave. Slater won pipe masters at 50 years old. No other word describes the guy except GOAT.
Crystal Cove one of my childhood spots. Not once did I think about sharks. As for the adult shark vs. juvenile, I think juvenile bull sharks are a concern. Testing the waters and unpredictable (from what I've read/heard).

amazing show, great interview. just one thing if I may, the camera for the couch side was focusing constantly in and out and i makes it a bit confusing to watch other than that it was amazing.
Loved the interview, Kelly Slater is an icon. I live in Haleiwa, North Shore on Oahu for 35 years, the surfing community is a family like no other.

Best day of the week is the day that wild ride comes. Thank you boys
It’s great that Kelly speaks nicely about other companies and their wave pools as opposed to most business people who won’t give competitors the time of day. Nice guy
A real business person.
Never speaks badly about anybody, however he’s a ruthless competitor and a silent assassin.
He is someone who wants wavepools to be as common as swimming pools, whether its his or not. Just dedication to the sport
