Kelly Slater is the greatest surfer of all time. This was an honor.
We talk with Kelly about his time on the show Bay Watch, how he lost a competition which actually saved him from being bitten by a shark, big wave surfing, UFC, Kelly's broken boys and more!

What a life this guy has had. He played it smart his whole career and didn’t get in his own way, stayed humble and lived the dream.
So True.....Admirables
he's the goat for a reason!! amazing
The smile on steveos face the entire time 😊
It's because Kelly showed steve-o his tiny weener before the podcast started 😊❤
Yeah I was wondering if his teeth/gums ever dry out. 😂
Where is the video?
Loved the interview, Kelly Slater is an icon. I live in Haleiwa, North Shore on Oahu for 35 years, the surfing community is a family like no other.
Tell that to all the surfers acting like idiots once they're in the water...
That's why we have the Hui lol. It's our outdoor classroom. 😊
Kelly is such a genuinely nice guy..he has been the best representative for surfing g and a huge inspiration to so many...truly the GOAT!!!
Forever the champ!!!
Kelly, beyond being an iconic surfer, is one of those guys that has stories for days and such a kind unassuming demeanor. That ever smile on your face Steve gives away just how nice it is to hang w him and share the stories.
Kelly Slater has Always been been my favorite surfer, even though I am 10 years his senior. He always motivates me to be the best Surfer, skater or Snowboarder I can! God Bless you all and him! 👍🏄🏽♂️🛹🏂🏍️✝️
Jesus loves you being better than the next guy at movement. 😂✝️
Kelly at jbay attacking the lip was always a part of my amping before I surfed.
My name is skip.fyi
Such a sick interview. Two legends reminiscing about the golden days. Haha you guys drew the path for many. I gotta watch the how surfing changes depression with steveo.
That was a freaking awesome interview. 🏄♂️ Thanks for sharing it with us
Kellys the Man and Goat. Years ago when my son was a Grom. We went to the Hurley Pro at Lowers Kelly won. But as he was heading out for the final heat he gave my son his wax. My son still has that Wax smells like root beer.
Arguably one of the best athletes ever. A genius of his craft, what’s great guy.
I don’t even think it’s arguable!
Sentence 1 - not at all.
Sentence 2 - 100%
@@docskate4312statistically he's won more championships than almost any athlete ever. also has been a competing professional (and winning) in his sport for over 30 years... regardless of what you define as an athlete he is inarguably one of the GOAT's
+ He's definitely the posterboy for the bald community
@@docskate4312 = out of touch 🤡
The smile on Steveos face throughout is priceless 😂 this interview is gold!
Stevo can’t smile properly with those teeth haha 😂
🤣🤣
Epic podcast!!! Thanks for the shout out SteveO!!!
If you are a skater or surfer from back in the day. Kelly Slater is like a GOD! I am 59 years old and my grandparents had a condo in Cocoa Beach years ago. Him coming from that area made him even more so of a true rockstar! You rule Kelly!! I kinda like you Steve-0!!!!!LOL!!!!!
He's made us East coasters proud!
@@nettwenchyup
He has a cat-like agility that no one else has. His intellect and instinct are huge factors in how he competes, he has total mastery of every skill required to be the best. Consistency is also part of his success. GOAT!!!
The Jimmy Buffett story was amazing, what an awesome gift to be able to give to a loved one. Love you both, this was the best.
Fuck yeah SteveO🤘 Thanks for the ShoutOut Boyz🙏🙌
World champ at 20. World champ at 50. Not playing pool or darts or lawn bowling. In a physically demanding sport fighting against nature and people half his age. Legend.
Great story about the shark encounter at J-Bay. I was watching the stream live. Those 5 seconds where Mick disappeared behind the swell was terrifying. I was thinking we might see Jaws in real time.
It’s great that Kelly speaks nicely about other companies and their wave pools as opposed to most business people who won’t give competitors the time of day. Nice guy
A real business person.
Never speaks badly about anybody, however he’s a ruthless competitor and a silent assassin.
He is someone who wants wavepools to be as common as swimming pools, whether its his or not. Just dedication to the sport
I had a Kelly Slater poster on my bedroom wall as a teenager. The beez neez of all things surf culture. Great episode guy's. Happy birthday to Paul!
A living Legend! Hopeful get to watch him perform for a few more years!
Slater is a classy guy. Good sport, top level athlete, and obviously a thoughtful and intelligent guy.
Kelly is the goat. What a legend man. I could watch him surf for hours
Now heading to work but have bookmarked this for tonight. Kelly Slater is such an awesome guy. Cant wait!
That was the best interview ever, thankyou soo much & Kelly is the most knowledgeable, humble kind spirit humans on this planet.
Such a great watch ❤️🙏
it was awesome having Kelly come in the van! This one was a lot of fun.
Skinny Vinney the legend himself 😮
Hey, coming to you from Queensland, Australia 🌏🦘🌏🦘🌏🦘
I grew up watching kelly slater, he was my surf idol , him & Occy and Tom Carrol. This was in 1990, and i was always the only girl surfer usually, lol !! I loved his moves, his raw talent, and obviously his looks, hehehe 😅 , but yeah, he was my absolute favourite surfer. I even made a surfboard just like one of his, it was a 6'3 thruster, with alot of rocker in the nose, and tail, so she flew in the water 🌊💦🌊 , it was a dove tail, if i remember correctly! Wow tho. Those were rhe days. I never lived more than a 5 minute walk from the beach, too. Of course, i have had many skin cancer surgerys, over the years, mostly on my back and face . And my left hip is stuffed. Ive got alot of arthritis setting in aswell. Im nearly 47 lol, but it was worth it !! I was lucky enough to make it to pipeline, and up and down the Australian coast, around Cronulla beach, noosa heads, Bondi, etc, as a teenager and young adult. But surfing does take its toll, as does skateboarding ( i did alot of that too, still do now haha) ive had some spectacular stacks on my deck, and nearly drowned 3 times in the water ( caught in rips, & under the impact zone, eating sand lol😮). But heck, i totally wish you all the best Kelly, may your pain be minimal, and your golf outstanding!!!!!
Sending Lotsa love, respect and good vibes from the land of Oz
🎉 🙏❤️🙏
Great interview and it’s funny how someone so passionate about life inspires you to live a better one
Kelly’s book, “Pipe Dreams,” really demonstrated the great upbringing, clear-eyed maturity, and insight, rarely found by young achievers in any discipline.
Hope to have my #7, “Wizard Sleeve,” signiture verified one day.🕉🏄🏾🤙😎
He's so regal at contests, it's amazing the amount of respect and admiration he receives. *GOAT*
Awesome interview - 2 things for next time:
1. Lock in that camera focus - the auto was driving me crazy - I wanna see Kelly as crisp as can be!!
2. Real hard to follow what you are talking about when we don't see the screen you're referencing - try and show that more!!
Face the shark, you’re damn right. Same thing happened to me spearfishing in the Bahamas. I had a shark ram me. It circled back and came back for another attack, and when I dropped my fins down in the water, spread my arms and made myself look big and actually made eye contact , it broke off the attack.
I lived on the North Shore for a while and surfed next to Slater often. My buddy was filming me at Pipe one day, when I came in all these tourists came up to me trying to get pictures and autographs from me. (I am not a Pro at all/ not known) They all asked what it was like to surf with Kelly Slater, I shrug it off cause I didn't know he was out with me. So all these people have pictures of me and think I am this un known Pro surfer that isn't phased by surfing with the GOAT. hahahah. Still one of my favorite memories.
The best Slater interview I've ever seen.
Best day of the week is the day that wild ride comes. Thank you boys
Such a ledge!! Very well spoken individual as well as incredible athlete 💪🏼
Awesome interview. Always a pleasure listening to Kelly tell stories.
You guys might wanna turn off autofocus for these podcasts tho. You can see the constant refocusing throughout video. I wonder if the lens is struggling with that furry poster on the wall behind.
I notice this on other podcast with the microphone going in and out of focus and I wonder why people use the auto focus.
Agreed. It’s because they are still rookies figuring out the technicals.
Went to high school with Kelly…he’s a good person
You can see how much respect and fun you are having Steve O. Great interview, keep them coming
Steve-O i hate to be the bearer of bad news, the older you get the more old injuries come back to haunt you. i am an old guy 67yo. been a fan for at least 20 years. thumbs up
Listening to history, so cool, thanks yall! Love it.
I'm in nc and it's been firing all season. Kelly said to train for pipeline is buxton nc the lighthouse fall /winter and it gets super heavy. what a cool human being 🤙
Used to go there on surf trips back in the late 70's, it was so wild and unspoiled back then. Not even a grocery store, you had to bring everything.
Awesome interview! Big Kelly Slater Fan and big Outerknown Fan. Canadian living in the Prairies wishing I was a surf guy.
Oh Kelly, been looking up to you all my life man. I nearly died at Zicadela last year, don’t know how you do it. Bless
Great interview, highly enjoyed that. Kelly youre a legend.
I had the biggest crush on Slater as a teen. Nice to hear what he's been up to. Thank you
Kelly is amazing, Steve-O is amazing, but the fact that the camera could never find focus hurt my eyes a little bit lol. Still, you guys are awesome so who cares about the camera
Slater , Hawk , Brady , Woods , Other sports have them obviously, but in my opinion these are undeniable .
Jordan.
Street team here! I liked this one.. hearing about the waves and the sharks was cool
Awesome hearing Kelly talk with SteveO. That Wave Ranch facility Kelly runs is epic, beautiful waves, ite and day and Ramani the surf tesch guru. Been watching alot of clips from there with all types of kooks on boards all enjoying it. Would love to go, watch, ride, help out. Super cool idea, thank you Kelly.
Big ups from JBay! Enjoyed this dudes thank you
Malibu Artist is probably the dude that Kelly mentions here. With the great drone footage of sharks and how they interact with unsuspecting people in the water😊 Great interview guys, dope vibes👌🏻
37'43" Movie is Brice de Nice, (by and acted by Jean Dujardin) quoted by the GOAT. This day has finally come
Awesome job Steve-o! One of the best interviews I have seen in a long time! 😂🤣😂 you looked starstruck
Sometimes the honesty off being star struck is so rad!
Houses in Hawaii. Florida, California and Australia ……Kelly has a blessed life. And stays approachable and humble. That shows damn solid character.
You are always thanking us at the end of each podcast. But THANK YOU for the constant Steve-O content! 🤘
Luv you 2 guys- are legends-Im 68 and still stoked on surfing and martisl arts!!...TY guys for stoke!!
Crystal Cove one of my childhood spots. Not once did I think about sharks. As for the adult shark vs. juvenile, I think juvenile bull sharks are a concern. Testing the waters and unpredictable (from what I've read/heard).
The 🐐 Goat was soo cool to have him❤ in Stevoo 🤙. You too at backdoor 6" 90 years old 💯✅
Shine On Kelly☝️😃
Steve-O ´s wearing a W.A.S.P shirt 🤘 My favorite band! Hellion for ever
I'm impressed by how well you guys can talk, with no edits. Well done!
Great cast guys! Nice to see a legend here :)
Thanks, Steve-O. Long live the Greatest.
Always awesome to hear some Kelly stories !
Kelly is super cool. I love to hear what’s happening from different angles than I’m used to. Different perceptions and experiences 🐸🍺🔪🔥
I met kelly at WRV in Kitty Hawk, NC in the late 90's..super nice, humble, funny guy! I saw him in sports illustrated (they were saying he was going to be the goat back then) in the 80's, he was pretty young. That made me want to surf, which i do (try to do) lol
Great, man! Love your kindness. Cheers
Look at how freaking stoked Steve O is right now!🤟🙌
Loved it.
One concern, for the camera on Steve-O and Kelly, whoever is cam op should set focus and put it on manual focus. The breathing of the AF is distracting. Just wanted to share my 2 cents! Keep bringing the great episodes🤟🏽
keep second guessing m eye sight there... looool.
Steve-O talks surfing with the master Kelly Slater, and sharks! How fucking cool is this!
Good way to start my morning here at work 🙌
First time ive seen Steve-O star struck, rightfully so, Kelly is definitely the g.o.a.t....Great interview!
37,37 I’d never thought I would one day hear Kelly slater the best surfer of history speaking about the stupid movie Brice de nice. When I was young I was leaving in Marseille a town on the coast without wave and I was going live in Hossegor for surf. I laughed so much with my friends about this story that intersect with my life.
very rad interview, one of my many favorites. Thanks for this Steveo!! yOU ROCK
I remember surfing an ESA contest as a teen when I saw Kelly slaying waist high waves in New Smyrna Beach. All the guys I knew thought he was something special. Great talent.
Couple of Florida boys
Oh shit I didn’t even think about that! Eastcoastfuckinrules

Two of my heros. Boy am I getting old...
Super chill dude. Great episode.
Awesome podcast! Next time you come to Siargao come visit the northern part of the island for very good and still some empty waves to be had. KS is such a legend, what a life he's had.
I met Kelly in tahoe at the golf thing..he is the man
Outerknown was recently hiring. In there Ad they said the applicant must be fully vacinated!! Lame..
That’s gotta be baby mom’s influence. 🙄
Yesss!! Super solid guest past few weeks
michael jordan is the kelly slater of basketball
19:22 As soon as the fish is out of the water the ripples from a fish struggling are gone. They react to those waves. When youre in the water you feel everything. Thats like sound to them. 24:56
I remember Kelly from years ago. I grew up in Jacksonville beach Fl. He would always win the ESA contests as a kid. If Kelly was in the contest there was no chance of winning.
I remember watching his film “110/240 in the early 90’s. I was blown away by how good he got in such a short time. Glad that I got to witness his career then and now.
Suweeeeet 🍭 like two 🐐’s from different pastures rolling up at the same bbq 🍖 thanks fellas 🖤🫶
Me and my buddies are all from sebastian...grew up surfing the inlet and wabasso...Kelly used to be at the inlet all the time man...always down to kick it w the groms...
I would always surf Spanish house as a youngin. Fun times!
@chilltime4878 Spanish house goes off...deep water is spooky but fun...good times for sure
His surf brain and memory is unreal
Back in the mid 80"s a couple buddies and I were in Huntington Beach surfing 2-3 footers. One of my buddies board nose dove into the wave when he was trying to get up. his board shot up at him and the fin nailed him in his forehead, slicing a big gash! a lifeguard patched him up and sent him to the hospital where he received 5 or 6 stiches!
Good energy on the pod!
Great interview, but turn that auto focus off, dial in the manual focus.
Sad to hear about the pain. Kelly should look into Dr John Sarno. Sounds like the pain is from stress and pressure. Western medical model will tell you its all physical but I was told I needed a hip replacement at 36. Now im 100% pain free after doing the mental work. Sounds kooky but its real.
Lmao sounds like the quack doctors I deal with at the VA. Meditation isn’t going to replace all the missing cartilage in my ankle, cure my osteoarthritis, and get rid of my chronic pain.
Nothing quack about it. Upward of 90% of chronic pain problems are psychophysical, routed in our emotional experience. This is widely proven with Neuroscience now. Sarno’s the man. Read his books, you’re entire perspective will be changed. It won’t change the missing cartilage but it will change the pain. Dr. David Hanscom too. Check him out. They’re both renowned spinal surgeons. (Sarno had passed away now) and understand chronic pain better than any other. Best wishes man.
I’m a mindbody practitioner and agree 100%. I wish more people knew this stuff. TMS is very common in skateboarding and surfing because of the personality types these sports/arts attract.
@@Clarke1982Not going to fix bone on bone.
Sarno and learning about TMS changed ny life. I'm still surfing because of Dr Sarno.
Stevo getting the GOAT in the bus.
Great job Stevo
From a kid watching Kelly Slater Black & White to 47 yrs old and he’s still the fucking man. You are the GOAT Kelly!!!!!
Coco beach in the House! 🤙
Nathan Florence did that with a drone to warn a kid on a board. There was a white shark 5 feet behind him. And he brought his drone within 10 feet over the kid's head.
Nathan Florence is becoming one of the greats himself, on his slab tours.
I want someone to look at me the way Steve-O looks at Kelly 😅😂😅😂
Checked to see of there was a new episode and wasn't disappointed 😂
40+ years of surfing. My hips are shot. I know his pain all too well.
yep...its hell getting old. . i used to rip!!!!🤙
Spencer , I know how your feel. 35 yrs hard surfing, 10 of those all over 4 Hawaiian islands etc etc !! Currently waiting for hip replacement #1 in Dec, and then the left side to follow ASAP. Had a great time wearing them out, but until surgery I am still on crutches and cannot even fish. This too shall pass
