So glad you made this video, I'm actually trying to find information on replacing the bearing that goes from the spreader frame to the driveside axle on my Earthway spreader.
Man thank you for showing the top view of the agitator rocking back and forth (and the bottom view of how the agitator arm is supposed to move when the impeller is spinning). I bought an old (epoxy style) 80 lb spreader for cheap and couldn't figure out why the agitator inside the hopper wasn't moving. I see now that the top part of the impeller that sits inside the agitator arm is worn down to the point where the impeller no longer makes contact with the agitator arm as the impeller spins. This thing must've gotten some serious use to grind down the impeller that much. Guess I need a new impeller and I need to replace it like you did.
*SO GLAD that I'm a comment reader, because the brilliant @vtecvictork comment below is so correct! "JUST REMOVE 3 of the BOLTS that HOLD ON the HOPPER, LOOSEN the 4th, one of the back ones, SO MUCH EASIER!* (all caps hoping people see this, OP should pin my comment on top & keep it as a friendly update to his excellent video.) I just completed my new spinner install using your comment and it was SO EASY! I removed 3 of 4 stainless bolts, left #4, one of the back ones half loose and the approximately 8 inch spinner shaft just falls off! *To make getting my hillbilly-fixed rusty nail out of the shaft safer for the gearbox, I took out the 3 screws holding the spinner shaft cap into the gearbox, took 30 seconds. This also allowed me to put a few pumps of new grease down into the gear-mesh area.* I was surprised how clean & greasy it was in there, I've never serviced the gearbox in 20 years! I did have to take the shaft to my drill press & drill out the first millimeter of each side of the nail/pin and then using a punch & hammer, the rest just popped right out, one whack. My new spinner didn't come with a new pin (*@^#$#!) so I got a 1/8" x 1" pin and it banged in tight. I also took the opportunity to add stainless washers in the hopper instead of those two stainless finger-ripper spring things that were supposed to hold down that green weight-relieving metal mesh, that is a 100% pain in the ass & I have never & will never use. Said it! *Seriously NO REASON TO TAKE APART YOUR LOWER END for this, I have a second spreader that needs the same job and I bet, now that I did one by loosening the hopper, I can do the other one in under half an hour*. Good luck! What a great product, I feel now that I could get another 20 years out of these spreaders, thanks LESCO!
Yeah ... just what I needed Paul ... my first time watching you ... Like your style ... Good info for this hillbilly in the mountains of North Carolina ... :-) ... thanks much
Hey Paul you got any more Lesco videos. Counting the days down can’t wait to get back to the grass cutting season. Could you do a video on how to use the Lesco calibration keys. Thanks
Man thank you for this video that cotter pin in the shaft that the spinner is on I had to drill out 🤣🤣 I called it MF a lot four times but jobs done ✅💪thanks
Holy cow, you took so much stuff apart you didn't need to. Unbolt the hopper, and the shaft comes out. Heat the pin and drive it thru with a punch. You would have you hands full of it was a chariot spreader.
Nice repair! I have used everything from a bent nail to trimmer line to get through a day when those damn roll pins fail. Everything on those spreaders is stainless steel and pretty strong. The roll pin is the Achilles heel of the whole damn thing, lol
Too funny...I thought I was the only one using the bent nail fix. Spare cotter pins are nice to have in the door pocket. Get more than one...only a dime a piece.
Paul thank you so much for this video! I just bought a used one and the collars were missing! I would've never known if I didn't see your vid! ;) . Quick question, did you have to open up the hole where you put that big pin in? It looks like my pin broke off so I gotta drill it out, but that hole looks tiny! Thanks again man! Great vid!
@@PaulsPrimeCuts You NAILED it. LOL Using a nail did the trick. I had one of them hitch pins laying around the garage so I gotta go pick one up. But thanks again!

Just the information I need. Going to need to replace before spring!
Dan Kozel good luck

Will Springer they never come apart easily things corrode . Thanks for checking it out!
Great video, thanks! Hey, handle grips on my 20 year old LESCO spreader look EXACTLY the same as yours, slid in a few inches! lol
That thing has been put through the ringer 😂

st7650 not a bad idea !!!
Thanks! Nice to see what I will need to consider.
Nelson Olivier good luck with getting that roll pin out ... don’t forget to get a new pin with your impeller

Nice use of those gloves!
Jeremy W. They are awesome
Hey Paul, How long did it actually take from beginning to finish? Thanks man. Keep up the great work!
TheOGPoohBear an hour or two ... just because things were stuck on it and I was figuring it out as I went... but it should probably be a 45 minute job
Nice repair!

Velvethamma totally agree I to have ran trimmer line in one to get a yard finished ... that big pin works great in the axle
Had to rebuild mine a couple of years ago....yup the Cadillac of spreaders
Too funny...I thought I was the only one using the bent nail fix. Spare cotter pins are nice to have in the door pocket. Get more than one...only a dime a piece.
Hands of a surgeon
paper clips too.lol
Thanks Paul, have done that twice in ten years and it always sucks.
Shane Bretey it was all pretty simple except getting that roll pin out of the platter that was a m$&&7 fu@“@
I think you could film yourself watching TV and I'd enjoy watching the video lol...Love me some PPC!
Bryan Hale if I was gonna make a video this weekend it was going to be fixing the spreader or changing out flowers... I planted pansies all weekend
Do you have the link of where you got the part from?

James Cobb you might have to drill it or try to drive a nail through it to punch the old roll pin out
@@PaulsPrimeCuts I'll jump on it tomorrow. Can't wait to get this bad boy ready to throw some fert down!

The "platter" is actually called an impeller
So you bought a permagreen?
Reel Low Dad if your boy comes through I’ll get his
Paul's Prime Cuts no ❤️? He will
@@ReelLowDad damn, no love until he comes through!!!! Tough Love!
You didn't answer my chicken poop vs human poop preference . I'll see if Matt will give me his opinion tonight.
Steve Willey chicken by what little I have looked in to it is better

Scott K ...do they make a gay iron?
What the hell did the utubes give me for a thumbnail????
Wondering the same thing
J's Crazy Cutz, LLC I just do it all on my phone and you don’t get any thumbnail choices they just put one up ... that one stinks
Is that you Pete?
Steve Willey you kill me 😂
Maybe if you didn’t use those gloves you could handle it better 😊.... where was your hard hat to save you from flying disk?!?
The Greener Lawn nooo the simper force gloves made the job 73.5 o/o less difficult
+\- 1% right 😂🤣😂💯
I'd rather work on it in a workshop then beating it against my trailer fender along the side of the road.
Steve Willey done plenty of both
