Keeping up with a regular cleaning every few months this time will help keep your flow at its highest potential which will make for better co2 distribution and distillation, especially since you run it inline; I also think you will be surprised how much it will cut down on any algae you dealt with in your last build. Check out the manual for ADA canisters for some real good tips on cleaning your media etc.
I was about to comment the same thing. Just because you still have some flow, I wouldn’t say it was running with no problems. The algae this tank was plagued with might have been significantly reduced with regular cleaning.
Very good that you mentioned not leaving the canister filled with water and closed up. In my experience, canister filters can become really anaerobic in just a few hours. Good luck with the next scape, Chris
You just discarded a rich, healthy bacterial ecosystem very important for nitrification of ammonia and for processing other wastes. I would recommend using sponges which can be squeezed clean of the detritus while maintaining a large portion of your bacterial culture. Ceramic media are ok, but I have discontinued using them since their internal pore structure tends to clog reducing their effectiveness. Good videos, I wish I was your age with youtube.
@@renjithravindren7101 I use Poret sponge from Swiss Tropicals. I have some that are nearly 10 years old. I squeeze them in tap water until most of the detritus is gone and reuse.
Thank u for sharing this, even though for some people it may be a simple thing but it let's me see the inside of the canister filter. Cos somewhere I saw it says canister filters are a pain to clean and much more expensive which made me hesitant to buy any.
Same layout and build as a sun sun or aquatop cannister filters. Can't believe how clean that filter was after a year? I do mine after 2 months and they are so much worse but i have a lot of bioload in all my tanks turtle tank is the worst though. Good job ryo.
Hi Ryo! Nice vid, anyway is it fine to have a canister filter much more/overly massive then what we suppose to get? Planned to use oase 850 for my 60p ada tank. Thank you in advance
The advantages of the Oase prefilter! Wouldn't want anything else. Also I don't know how long you had the filter off already but bacteria are dying after 1 hour of no circulation
Never used a canister filter until recently and was honestly surprised how much gunk it gathered in a month considering I only put fish in there a week ago.
Hey bro. You should use a second canister filter without pump such as sunsun hw for sponge filter and your canister filter for bio media. It will help you much.
@@Ummmmmkay88 that’s because I added in a bunch of ADA aqua soil and I planted lagenandra. Lagenandra is a plant that is known to melt but if you see the video a few months later, the plants came back healthy. You’re bound to get algae with ADA soil

Leaving biological filter media to dry doesn’t sound like a good idea. I’ve never heard of this “air storage” method for established media, can anyone chime in? Doesn’t the bacteria need to eat?
I learnt it while working at an ADA advanced aquarium shop. You’re not drying it out. You keep the lid on so that the media doesn’t dry out but have some open space so that air can get in. It’s better than leaving it fully sealed with no oxygenation. Aquashop wasabi (another ADA store in Kyoto) also recommends this if you’re unable to run the filter on another tank
They’ll survive. Anyway, if he uses new aqua soil particularly ADA Amazonia they’ll be an ammonia spike and he’d have to wait a couple of weeks to add fish.
It’s not it’s organic matter (fish poop and dead plants) that has been decomposed by bacteria. There will be some bacteria on it, but you’ll be able to support a larger population with the increased flow and the population will recover within days.
I realised I forgot to clean the impeller and spindle. I’ve already cleaned it up and the filter is now ready to be used again 😃
can I have the filter Please 😏 perhaps a giveaway???

@@SanjayCR26 you dont need an air pump if you already have a canister filter running and creating water surface agitation.

Thanks Chris! Yes, I've heard that bacteria will die in just a few hours if left without any oxygen :)
That's some good sploogy, I use the filthy water from my aquarium as water for plants, great fertilizer.

The background music makes it sound like you’re on a Pokémon journey! Love it 😂
Mine is just a habit at this stage, I clean my filters usually every 3-4 months and every month for the goldfish tank
Put water in it and use airpump if you have it , it si the best way to save bacteria , without water they die
They’re fine without water. What they need is oxygen, which they’ll get more of when they are in air rather than stagnant water.
What a nice chocolate softcake you got in first tray :D.

Hi i am a beginner,i saw you throw the sponge, did u put new wants in?
That filter is looking brand new now, I've never thought about running co2 inline, seems like a good idea, Another great video man.
Yes, inline co2 works great but for the next aquascape I am going to use a regular co2 diffuser. I like being able to look at the bubbles

this video is kinda satisfying
Is that an ADA garden stand?
If you leave the canister without water and an open space for aeration for how long can you leave it like that?

I clean my jet filter every 2 months to maintain best flow.
Looking forward to the next scape 🌿
The advantages of the Oase prefilter! Wouldn't want anything else. Also I don't know how long you had the filter off already but bacteria are dying after 1 hour of no circulation
That is not proven. What will die is the microfauna. But not the filter bacteria themself!
Is your 60cm aquarium stand DIY or you bought it from somewhere? If so, where did you get it from?
Hi Ryo
What is dimensions of the tank shown in video
Did you add filter foam?

Fine pad goes ontop of the sponges
Yea, but I don’t use it. Fine pad is not necessary
When I have to stop the filter for long time, I leave water inside and put air pump into it
