It seems to have a story here like GOT where people fight over power and territory when there is a bigger thread they are ignoring the existential threat they need to deal with. Unlike GOT, I think they will tell this story well and pass on any too easy a 'solution',
There should be no solution, a fairy like multi star system would be corny as hell. A good end to the books would be the rings being closed for good while several worlds and human settlements get permanently separated light years away, to mature another couple thousands of years.

Actually, I think all Mankind (at least currently) decided many years ago to refuse developing Human cloning and Human genome improvements... So it was at least one precedent in limiting clearly advantageous scientific researches. -Many countries limiting use of GMO in farming and everybody very afraid and cautious of General AI too...
- They are limiting GMO because the benefits are minuscule for them, so it is very cheap to be careful. (the increase of GDP from GMO is comparatively tiny) - Human cloning without very high tech genetic engineering is basically useless for countries like China, so this explains why it was so easy to convince everybody not to do it. - A.G.I. is different: it is an extremely powerful technology. For oppressive regimes A.G.I would mean that they no longer depend on the working class, basically eliminating any chance the regime could be overthrown. There are many other benefits of A.G.I. for oppressive regimes too, and they may even convince themselves that the warnings about the dangers are just propaganda to slow them down. In Europe and USA, non experts generally play down the dangers, or downright deny them. (even some experts do not believe that A.G.I. would pose any significant danger)
Whoa, weird coincidence. Playing AC Odyssey and listening, and teleported to Lakonia the same time the it got mentioned in the video. The Expanse is an awesome show looking forward to next season.
Question...may include spoilers:- Not sure if Laconia is Earth-like in terms of size....but if The protomolecule structure can be clearly seen from Laconia's surface in daylight, then the structure and that half-constructed ship must be massive....wonder how much bigger it would be compared to a Donnager?
@@crapinho In terms of powerful...probably 'Very' and in terms of advanced....difficult to say considering a very limited understanding of an alien technology that can re-purpose your DNA, can generate a massive amount of energy & can 'glass' entire solar systems...that kind of tech could accelerate a civilization's technological level by thousands of years in the space of a few decades. Will all that power be used with wisdom for the benefit of mankind....doubt it..(if Laconians are anything to go by.) but I think we can all be sure the consequences will be spectacular.
@@edwardkane7361 if you read the books, you'll see how it turns out! and yes, the Laconians are not the "good guys" here so you might have an idea that things are gonna bad...
@@crapinho Yeah...its going to be messy isn't it. Working my way through the books (book 3 next) but will stop at book 5 until they release Season 6. But it is fun to theorize. :)
Kinda hoping they do what Firefly did & finish the story with a couple of big budget movies. (Possible book spoilers) I doubt they'll do a 30 year time jump but they may go with 10 or 15 or even less which is fine by me. I'd really like to see Laconia & the Laconian ships on the big screen & done better than Illus.
[spoiler] Thanks for the analysis. Something I didn’t pick up from the books that was clarified here: the things that came out of the Sol gate to reap havoc were already partially constructed. I had assumed that Laconia scientists had advanced their protomolecule knowledge enough to build them from scratch. This explains something I didn’t understand before - why were the quantity of these items were so limited.
[spoiler] There was only 1 half made ship. They build the other 2 Magnetar class ship from scratch. They know how to build the ships. what they did not anticipate was "the Bullet" placed by Unknown Aggressors/Goths when they fired the magnetic weapon on Pallas. or the lost time experienced by entire Sol System.
The Laconia plotline is honestly the most interesting one in the franchise, and it's a damn shame we won't be getting books 7-8-9 in show form to explore it. I'm hoping the small glimpse we get of the Heart of the Tempest is the show runners trying to drum up excitement for the show so Amazon change their minds and keep it going. And yeah, what happens after book 6 poses a big problem, but I feel like the technology is there to allow them to push through it.
You heard anything on when the last book is coming out? It was supposed to be released last year. I don’t want them to rush but man I hate waiting years to finish a story.
I think if you started on 6 you'd inevitably want to go back to the beginning. I recommend starting at book 1, but if you're impatient 6 will introduce the story for season 6.
SPOILER: Basically, Laconia has orbital shipyards that can make ships based on the technology of the protomolecule creators. Obviously, ships like that will be hyper advanced compared to human ships.
I am a huge fan of the books BUT I never read the novellas. I've found myself increasingly frustrated / disappointed with the later books and it has all centered around the whole Duarte / Laconia story arc. I've thought the background / development of this vital portion of the story was just missing. I'm quickly realizing that the novellas are the missing pieces to the puzzle. Already had it on my to-read list to go back and read the novels again. Definitely going to incorporate the novellas this time. Thx for the great vids, Pete.
The writers missed bringing that Monica/Missing ships thread back into the last couple of episodes. I've read the books, so I wasn't lost, but I couldn't remember when or to what extent the ring gate Dutchman phenomena was explained. Maybe a little less lounging around and drinking on Luna, and more pulling the story together towards the conclusion.
What about the water fuel cell? Humanity had a chance to have free energy to run our cars but the oil companies forced the car companies not to build them because they would lose all their money. That's technology that could of pushed us forward but we didn't use.
The is no one above Duarte right? He is the main ruler of the Laconia Empire. I notice they didn't have a Emperor, but I guess High Consul is the direct Monarch role then
What i wonder is if there will be a Star Wars like EU, where other writers take up the mantle and write stories about some of the other 1300 world's through the rings.
SPOILER . . . I know the timeline doesn't quite fit, but i'll be damned if that's not almost exactly what i imagined the Magnetar class would look like.
Spoiler I know right? In the book the first ship they build is the Proteus, but in the series they mention that the deal with the Free Navy is fulfilled, so maybe they are going to skip the railgun installation in the Slow Zone, so the Proteus would be unneeded in the story
@@gastono8179 . . . If i remember correctly the Proteus is only mentioned once in a Singh chapter. Assuming they want to adapt the laconian trilogy in 3 movies or something similar I guess teasing something that will never actually have a meaningful role in the story makes little sense.
I don't need the end credits explained. I wish someone would just play the blasted video. I saw the end credit video once, and last night when I wanted to see it again, Amazon wouldn't show it. Since they posted Season 6, Amazon insists on cutting off the end credit scene and going to the next episode. 😠
Okay so I stopped the video at 9:35, before the object in the sky is revealed I have some questions. I read the books that were out at the time in 2015 and it's been so long that I kind of remember a lot but kind of forgot some. Is the reveal of the object in the sky in book five or book six? because when I do pick it back up I'm going to start at book six.
A 3 percent loss rate? Governments not treating such a high percentage as significant? People unnecessarily dying? The expanse used to be realistic man!
With communication lag, different governments on different planets hence separate recordkeeping and in general no faction friendly with the others; and the Duarte plot... who knew?
It's not 3% of the population going missing, just of the ships venturing through a barely discovered alien wormhole to explore. I say its very acceptable.
one thing that was repeatedly told to holden....check your corners....when you enter a room and get too excited you forget to check all the corners. they are literally travelling through gates(doors) and are not checking out the whole solar systems....just the habitable planets it seems. what if theres something still waiting in one of these systems....dark and hard to see until its too late.
If the Unknown Aggressors destroyed the BarKeith, why would the put up with Marco trying to control the Ring Space? It would seem that they could just destroy him in the Ring Space or when he tried to exit through one. Of course, I tend to think that Phillip might kill his father as he told Naomi that he could succeed without her or Marco. As mean as Marco is at times, Phillip could snap.

Thx for the info I am one that started reading the book 5 and was little lost with the difference from the book compared to the show would like to know if you would do a video on what difference Maybe season one through four compared to the books 1 through four
@@PetePeppers1 Spoiler Looks too big to be the Proteus, the guys in the wiki are already calling it the Tempest, but it wouldn't be the first time they are wrong
@@PetePeppers1 Spoiler I'm pretty sure the protesus was just a normal ship with a fancy advanced new hull, that's why the peeps on Medina didn't question it too much and just went "uh, those strange martians are already developing new tech, neat". That seems to alien for a normal vessel.
In the book there were a lot more survivors from Protogen. I was not happy with how the show conveniently killed off all but one. In fact, Thoth was stupidly understaffed in the show.
The protomocule/unknown aggressors is just like the others in got the most dangerous thing in the story no one pays attention to and when holden/john snow says hey man but its to late for listening
Publication order, which is considered the right way to read them, says to read it after book 6. Doesn't really make a big difference in this case, but it might feel like going backward in a way if you read it first.
so about erich... we might get to see him again if we somehow get auberon adapted. at least i think that's erich, the book never actually mentions his name.
So let me get this straight? there is humans, gate builders and an unknown hostile alien that makes the proto molecule that almost wipeout the entire galaxy. So the hostile alien is from the space between space in the ring transit. Am i wrong or right? Im still confuse who actually make the proto molecule..is it the gate builders or the unknown hostile alien? Because the proto molecule makes the gate right? so does that make the proto molecule the gate builders or originate from gate builders right? and the hostile alien is from the space between space right?
The gate builders and the ones that created the protomolecule are one in the same, the unknown dark entities destroyed the creators of the protomolecule.
I really can't wait a WHOLE year to find out what happens... can't you make a video for those of us that don't have time to read books about it, and let us know what possible story line could take place in season 6?
without reading the books, what if the blue protomolecule is a rogue AI and the red stuff is an AI virus; neither (if at all two) civilization(s) survived but their machines lingered
i actually thought the show gave up a lot more than the book did. i expected some foreshadowing, and there was even some back in season four. but i was very satisfied they showed the stick moons (ever notice how the books pick horrible names for things that are never used in the series) and the... other thing. this means that laconia is not being cut out, which was something i was worried about. though i don't know how they are going to pull it off with only one season left.
I think the writers are banking on someone financing seasons 7-9; either Amazon gets a change of heart or someone else swoops in. As the pace of the series has been basically one book per season, there's no way the show runners can cram that much story into 10 episodes. I believe the writers are already on record as stating that they are not going to finish the story in season 6.

@@Iain0101 I'd been advised to read Strange Dogs before Tiamat's Wrath, it worked quite well, even if it did make a certain thing predictable after the cave incident.
@@thedachmo - I’m glad I read them in the order I did (main novels first, then novellas) as recommended by some. I didn’t mind going back later to fill in gaps.

I BURN for Laconian content 🔥🔥🔥
It needs to be more pure than any Martian content ever could be
@@toiletNerd i doubt they could give us more Laconian clips, I'm already done with the Marco Inaros arc, but they're going to focus on his throughout season 6
Just started reading the books and love them already! With season 5 ending it seemed like a good time to start :)
Sounds like a solid plan.
This scene with the Barkeith compelled me to buy Nemesis Games. Pronto.
I want to watch this video so damn bad! I've watched the show since S1 on sci-fi and i'll only allow myself to be spoiled by the books which I haven't read yet. Thanks for the great content Pete.
Best Expanse coverage on RUclips!
Pete - Any comment on the shot of the stars oscillating, moving back and forth after the Barkeith is consumed? It seems one possibility is that the show changed that usual end credit shot because it wants to show stars as creatures "between spaces" would see them.
i really like your videos. Also, nice to see you don't cave to spoiler request. Those people who decide to read the books will have a fulfilling payoff. Keep well.
I've read all the full length books. I guess I'm reading the novellas now.
Fantastic video PP!
I consider myself a huge fan and watching your videos I always learn so much about how things are pieced together so cohesively.
Turns out I am welwala Jon Snow. I know eff all. 😁
The novellas are all pretty great. Since you're through the main series you can read them in any order for the most part.
I would love to watch a extensive review of books 7 to 9 from you! Think about it!
I ordered books - can't wait to get them :D
What you hear on season1 episode 1 might pop out 2 or 3 seasons down the line. What a brilliant show. I have watched Season 1-5 3 times and every time I learn a phrase, a reference that comes out later.
(the increase of GDP from GMO is comparatively tiny)
- Human cloning without very high tech genetic engineering is basically useless for countries like China, so this explains why it was so easy to convince everybody not to do it.
- A.G.I. is different: it is an extremely powerful technology.
Question...may include spoilers:-
Not sure if Laconia is Earth-like in terms of size....but if The protomolecule structure can be clearly seen from Laconia's surface in daylight, then the structure and that half-constructed ship must be massive....wonder how much bigger it would be compared to a Donnager?
the real question: how much more powerful and advanced would it be?
Thanks a lot, Pete! Entertaining as usual 🤗
A series covering the novellas would be pretty sweet Pete, just saying...
Read it 😂
@@PrathameshPonkshe Already did smart guy. It's fun content and would be cool to discuss.
Great job, as usual. Keep up the good work!
fucking awesome mr peppers. i lovethis show and the books
Kinda hoping they do what Firefly did & finish the story with a couple of big budget movies. (Possible book spoilers)
I doubt they'll do a 30 year time jump but they may go with 10 or 15 or even less which is fine by me. I'd really like to see Laconia & the Laconian ships on the big screen & done better than Illus.
I was wondering what the thing above laconia was. I can't wait to see the wacky things that the protomolecule does on that planet!
[spoiler]
Thanks for the analysis.
[spoiler]
There was only 1 half made ship. They build the other 2 Magnetar class ship from scratch. They know how to build the ships. what they did not anticipate was "the Bullet" placed by Unknown Aggressors/Goths when they fired the magnetic weapon on Pallas. or the lost time experienced by entire Sol System.
Circuit breaker built into the gate systems. Anything big enough to concern the og builders will be Dutchmanned
The Langoliers got Laconia.
Great video. Thanks for the links for the books. 👍🚀❤️
Volumes 6,7 and 8 are awesome. I can't wait for vol. 9. Read the books if you are a fan of the show.
Agree, Book 8 especially was one of my top 3 fantasy / sci-fi books.
"kool-aid drinker look" thats dense
You heard anything on when the last book is coming out? It was supposed to be released last year. I don’t want them to rush but man I hate waiting years to finish a story.
November was mentioned in some comments
Is there a book to jump into going forward or should I read ALL of them? Tempted to get book 6 and move on
I think if you started on 6 you'd inevitably want to go back to the beginning. I recommend starting at book 1, but if you're impatient 6 will introduce the story for season 6.
SPOILER:
Basically, Laconia has orbital shipyards that can make ships based on the technology of the protomolecule creators.
I always hear the ship name as, "The Barkeep".
This guys speaks in all caps.
There’s not enough ads in your 10 minute video. Please add more.

just enough info! perfect balance!
I loved the first 4 seasons. I have not been able to get passed episode 3 of season 5. It is so boring this year.
Great job...thanks for sharing...

I know the timeline doesn't quite fit, but i'll be damned if that's not almost exactly what i imagined the Magnetar class would look like.

I know right? In the book the first ship they build is the Proteus, but in the series they mention that the deal with the Free Navy is fulfilled, so maybe they are going to skip the railgun installation in the Slow Zone, so the Proteus would be unneeded in the story

All Hail LACONIA!
Looks like giant protomolecule space herpies in low orbit.
It's not really confirmed until book 7. Something that happens in book 6 hints at it, but the plot point it spoils doesn't happen until the seventh.
More videos like this please.
I'm going to do a book spoilers speculation video for season 6, but probably won't be out until the weekend.
FYI Laconia is another name for Sparta/Spartan
A 3 percent loss rate? Governments not treating such a high percentage as significant? People unnecessarily dying?
The expanse used to be realistic man!
With communication lag, different governments on different planets hence separate recordkeeping and in general no faction friendly with the others; and the Duarte plot... who knew?
@@steriopticon2687 this plus like Fred said it's happening on the other side of the rings.
Doors and corners, kid. That's where they get you.
@@brucetucker4847 that was it lmao couldn't remember it exactly, just that it was repeatedly stated to him.
if you played any Sci-Fi game with ship you saw a shipyard right away.
Construction complete. Technology secured. Anomaly detected.
What an explanation! This youtube channel is such an underrated channel. You have a high potential my friend! Just wait and never give up on this. You will get what you deserve soon.❤️
Edit : Also, can someone tell me how many seasons in total do we have for 'The Expanse' ? I hope 6th Season is not the last one :'(
Thanks for this
What do you think this means for season 6 with books 7, 8 and 9?
starting book 8... Duarte is a God...
Thx for the info I am one that started reading the book 5 and was little lost with the difference from the book compared to the show would like to know if you would do a video on what difference Maybe season one through four compared to the books 1 through four

9:48 So is that the half finished Proteus in orbit you reckon?
Spoiler
That's what it should be. Hopefully they'll pull it up to Medina next season so we can get a look at it.
@@PetePeppers1 Spoiler
Looks too big to be the Proteus, the guys in the wiki are already calling it the Tempest, but it wouldn't be the first time they are wrong
@@PetePeppers1 Spoiler
I'm pretty sure the protesus was just a normal ship with a fancy advanced new hull, that's why the peeps on Medina didn't question it too much and just went "uh, those strange martians are already developing new tech, neat". That seems to alien for a normal vessel.
Reading books 7 and 8 in our current political climate has given the books even more weight. The writing is so good.
So I'm reading the books. Just finished book 5 (Nemesis Game). Should I read Strange Dogs now or wait until after I read book 6?
Publication order, which is considered the right way to read them, says to read it after book 6. Doesn't really make a big difference in this case, but it might feel like going
backward in a way if you read it first.
@@PetePeppers1 Thanks! I think I was making that decision more difficult than it should have been.
so about erich...
we might get to see him again if we somehow get auberon adapted. at least i think that's erich, the book never actually mentions his name.
It's definitely him. Hopefully we'll see it someday.
Live stream WHENNNN!
Maybe Sunday. Still thinking about it.
@@ericcoskun1 So this dark entities is from that gate thing devouring the MCRN ship. Wow. thanks.
@@riwanramli7604 Blue=protomolecule, gates, planet terraformers
Red=Warp worms, killers of blue
@@anonymoususer3561 thanks. I never saw it that way. Interesting.
the protomolecule only became something bad because it was miss-used by dodgy scientists..
I really can't wait a WHOLE year to find out what happens... can't you make a video for those of us that don't have time to read books about it, and let us know what possible story line could take place in season 6?
The problem is those pesky writers on the show. That said, Peter really should lay out the options.
without reading the books, what if the blue protomolecule is a rogue AI and the red stuff is an AI virus; neither (if at all two) civilization(s) survived but their machines lingered
No, it's pretty clear that they're tech built by two different alien races, one of whom used the "red stuff" to wipe out the other.
much of what he says in the video can be seen or deduced from the show
More spoiler for me please :)
i actually thought the show gave up a lot more than the book did. i expected some foreshadowing, and there was even some back in season four. but i was very satisfied they showed the stick moons (ever notice how the books pick horrible names for things that are never used in the series) and the... other thing. this means that laconia is not being cut out, which was something i was worried about. though i don't know how they are going to pull it off with only one season left.
