    By far the best design because the lifting plates swivels to maintain even contact under the board and thus prevents spitting the board.

    The age , the thickness of the boards, the type of runner used, and nail type and length all make a difference in what you can us to dismantle a pallet. the one you show has about a 3/4 inch thickness and shows some age to it, I would probably cut the boards as even if they are not cracking the nails are pulling through and the end of the board will need to be cut off anyway. Got a really good pallet buster from Vevor that was a lot like the one you built but has 2 sided claws that put equal pressure on the boards, for us non welders it is a good deal. I have found that the runners are some of the best wood from pallets. The worst wood is the cheap plywood they use. I am poor and use almost only pallet wood and wood found on the roadside for all my projects. The colors that come through after planing are really quite nice. Specialty pallets that they have added 2x4s to for special purpose, are my favorite.they add new wood and usually use screws to attach it making it easy to save the wood.

    I've made several pallet buster bars but still haven't found the ideal set up yet. - I've been using black pipe for the handle's which are really beefy. "Heavy: The design I use has the wrecker straddle the runner with 1/2 in flat bar which fits under the 5in slats .... It really works good, except I left 3.5 inches so when i get a pallet with 2 runners or 4x4 runners, it's not a problem. I think there should be different styles for the 1x4 slats. Hope to make a video soon. I like your set up and might give it a go...

    Awesome design! Had an idea that might improve this design a little. Use two 90 deg. angle iron pieces instead of the flat pivoting bars, this will increase the surface area on the boards you are prying up on and might reduce the splitting. If you try it and it works I would love to see a follow up video

    Great design, well done. However, I wonder if you did replace the welded pin (which is currently flush with the side of the pivot arms) with a bolt and nut securing the two pivot arms would this not cause them to stand off from the pallet side rail by the depth of the bolt? This would also require you to have a longer fulcrum pin to compensate for the projection of the bolt head and nut. Overall I think that your design is ideal as it is because the closer you can exert the lifting force to the side rail to lift the cross board the greater the efficiency as the force is closer to the nail heads. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Thanks for the vid’.

    • @RoomiesGarage
      @RoomiesGarage  4 года назад

      Your comments made my day. I had in mind the if I left the bolt head it would've gave me a greater surface to weld the pin to the arm. The tool has not required any repairs yet and I tool a lot of pallets. I also made one with bearings that works using the same concepts. In my other build video I talked about the importance of the location of the resting pin on the pallet runners ( fulcrum in other words) cheers

    Paint it black and draw a tornado symbol on it to spell out the destruction to pallets. Nice job. I wonder if you were to heat the nail puller up bright red and then dip it in oil if it would harden it more to take the abuse of the nails.

    Excellent video, watched it a couple of times. Something I need, and something I'm currently making. But I'm curious...the 3/8" bolt you used at the pivot point...what kind of damage are the runners receiving from the pressure applied? I'm wondering if they can still be used or do they become bonfire material? At the beginning of the video where you're removing the slats, it looks like it goes pretty deep...about halfway buried. You mentioned using a larger bolt to reduce the "footprint". Any further thoughts on that?

    • @RoomiesGarage
      @RoomiesGarage  6 лет назад +1

      I just got a pair of small bearing (cheep as a test) to help reduce the amount of damage on the runners because the gouged were pretty deep . So I have the material to build another one with a bigger and also longer pin to increase the footprint. I also noticed that when pallets are very dry the nails are very hard to remove from the runners, hence the bigger damage on the boards because of the excessive force required to take them apart. Also the parallel flat bars a to long for the normal pallet, they don't work well on small boards. I will be working on doing a fabrication and test video this weekend for next weekend if you are interested. Cheers.

    • @RoomiesGarage
      @RoomiesGarage  6 лет назад

      I just step on it I usually start with the exterior ends of skid and then I move into the center of the skid with the pry bar this way the boards are easier to remove as they are not moving around. The breaker bar function the same way as a nail puller. By the way it helps when you weigh more than 200 pounds LOL... For the pallets there are kneeled and softwood my 67 lb son can take them apart with a little bit of guidance and supervision.
