- Award-winning actor, producer and director Mel Gibson was in Austin at the time of the Los Angeles fires but says when he arrived back home, “sure enough, it wasn’t there.” Gibson joins “Elizabeth Vargas Reports” and says he has “never seen such a complete burn" like what happened to his home of 14 years, but that what was lost in the fire “can all be replaced ... these are only things.”

That’s faith confidence in God’s will fiat
If he were making 50 grand a year and lost his house, I bet he wouldn't be so calm and collected.
@ you forgot Mel sold his house to make the Passion of the Christ which no one in Hollywood wanted to support. It cost 30million on production to make the movie and he made back 370million + on that movie.
Yeah your prayers will do the trick lol
It probably has not sunk in good yet .
These are painful situations , I'm glad his family are safe . Praying for the people of California and North Carolina .so much devastation will take a long time to rebuild . Last that I checked 24 people had died , that figure hopefully does not go up ❤
People are missing
People are also still missing in NC.
Wow and 770 dollars from the government lol what a joke .
Mel Gibson has a good attitude. He says it's just stuff. It's very sad, and to lose things that mean something personal, but it's "things."

To be “relieved from the burden” of one’s stuff is a great gift indeed.

Our chickens survived the 1983 Ash Wednesday fires in South Australia. Our house was totally destroyed, but the chook house survived, and lived on for many years.
We lost our house 20 years ago in a fire. Sadly we ended up with one “roasted” chicken, but the others survived. They were free range and ran down the hill to safety with the dog. Glad yours survived.

"It's like somebody did it on purpose to destroy every aspect of it" - Mel Gibson. Very powerful statement
Exactly! As we see houses and cars are burned, but many trees around (not all but many) still standing firm, with leaves on them? It is very suspicious. 🧐
The irony is that Mel is a Catholic and a wind named after one of his beloved biblical saints blew her fiery fury at Mel's house and melted it down to the ground.
@@fallenskybird nothing happens without reason, probably he has to move from California for some reason? 😏
And to be honest many believers in Jesus do not have "easy life". Almost all Apostles were killed, suffering terrible pain. Most Christians in the early church died by animals, by bad humans, suffered, was poor etc.
So believing means to take own cross and follow the Lord Jesus.
The prince of this earth is somebody else 😜.
But life here is only a brief moment in comparison to the eternal life.
🙏😇❤️
@@Orchidea-u4r while some of that seems true, and may be, i survived the tubbs fire 2017 and it was exactly the same. one place would be ash, the house next door, fence barely singed, on the other side, just a chimney. whole neighborhoods gone, with 3 random houses completely untouched. still with power in some. firestorms are a different breed. they arent joking when they say it has its own weather. it was a literal 50-80 mile an hour winds and 3 blocks over, still, birds chirpin, it was the scariest thing ive ever been through, and i was in both earthquakes in 1989 and 1993. its like a bomb went off on one block, perfect on another. theres no rhyme or reason to it.
@@Orchidea-u4r " It is very suspicious." No it's not. If you've ever seen a fire like it, and the aftermath, that's what it looks like. I remember the Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge fire from 2016. Three contained fires that were hit by high winds and suddenly you had 30+ fires everywhere. Trees are the last to go/fall, because of all the retained moisture within. The leaves aren't much more than ash held together by the leaf veins that have dried and hardened like rebar. You touch them and they start to crumble. The buildings lose structural integrity and then collapse and car interiors and components are highly flammable. People don't realize that both cars and homes are basically packed full of fuel for a fire. And unlike trees, all that combustible material is dry. And the winds make it basically random as hell. There can be sides of the road that are basically untouched and the other side will look like a bomb went off.

99% of the people involved with this will say 'ah its just stuff' because they still have $10M+ in the bank. Chillest catastrophe in history.
Correction, I've got 250 million bucks in the bank:)
True it’s the middle class without insurance that are truly hurting
That’s not true Even in PCH there are many that aren’t wealthy. And the majority in the Eaton fire is just average folks.
A lot of Aussies who go through bushfires have the same attitude as Mel Gibson. Yes, the stuffs gone, time in their homes are just memories now but if all the family and animals make it out we count ourselves lucky, grateful and thankful and we don't have millions of bucks. Some don't even have insurance and if our families are safe, same attitude as Mel.
Some of those assets could have been the house, the land, the cars and items inside the house so there's no telling how much of that money is left.
What a wonderful attitude
What a great guy.
Nice to see one of these celebrities realistic about their situation.

Faith in what ? A fictitious “loving God” ?
he is filthy rich, losing house is mere inconvenience for him
@kathleenmccallun5081I agree. We can go through anything with God who strengthens us. We don't have to fear anything with Him.
Glory to Jesus Christ, the Son of God!
You know that God doesn't cause bad things right? Satan causes bad things play she used to live in their sinful desires yeah that causes problems too.

Sounds like Mel is doing ok financially, so his attitude is a little more cavalier, but that's alright. He emphasizes what's important and that's is, he and his family are alive. Still a devastating and traumatic experience for so many others though. So, so sorry for what's happening for all effected!
"They weren't roast chickens ." He's funny!😅
Millions of people around the world lose their home and memories and belongings in a house fire by accident. But nobody cares because it's isolated cases.
Now all the rich are involved in the drama so the media get interested in what they've lost. When you listen to the celebrities, they cry for their memories and their pieces of Art. The working class cries because they don't know where and how they will live.
I can’t believe the nonsense people are spewing. Have you gone through a major catastrophic event? This is not just about the rich it’s reaching other neighborhoods as well it’s just that these communities were the first affected it could even go to Compton!
@@deniseberman8633 And I want to add that when it's about hurricanes destroying poor islands, everybody talks about sending them help to rebuild but nobody mentions that these people lost their history and memories and their children's first step in the house... He used to live behind Serra Retreat about a block or so from Dick Van Dyke not far from Las Flores Canyon Road ---- he shouldn't have moved. I used to see him in his Lexus LX 470 on occasion going into the health food store while I was at the coffee shop. I'd see Dick Van Dyke in his Jeep Cherokee driving here and there, as well. Glad Mel and his family are safe, despite that he lost everything, he said he is good still, he's a rich man, so he can rebuild his new home, or buy a new home, and start over, what a tragedy about those awful wildfires in L.A, and for those who died, and animals as well, i know many will get help, and they will be ok.

He sounds a little glib about this. I'm glad he, his wife and the chickens are all OK. He says, 'it's just stuff, we can replace it". Yes....but so many can't replace what they've lost. I'm sure he's in some amount of shock and maybe the humor is just hsi way of dealing with it.
He is indeed feeling strong emotions. But his faith eases the burden.
It's easy to be glib when you can just replace everything you lost tomorrow.
His housekeeper and gardener and pool boy on the other hand, will be suffering from this for years.
I felt the same way. I didn't think the jokes and humour were really appropriate given the circumstances, however who knows, may be it hasn't really hit him yet; shock does strange things to people.
Many people will try to joke out of pain. He's feeling sorrow and loss, like so many.
He has dark humor. When my son died, I tried to keep up his "dark humor" but I couldn't, it was a coping mechanism. It seems to happen when in shock.
