Been subscribed to you for years. Patron when I can afford it. Since I've seen Rhonda on the boat the content has a totally different feeling. I love it. It's always a great thing to live your dream and even better to share it.
You two are amazing. Two very independent people who found each other and are now independent together. Can’t wait to see the adventures ahead of you and the way that you work as a team to overcome challenges and love life together. Just when I thought that this channel was perfect, Rhonda comes along and now, it’s more perfect. Easily my favorite sailing channel on RUclips.
It really looks like you two share exactly what my wife and i have and treasure - that feeling of comfortable companionship that transcends all the daily life that swirls around us all. We've been together for almost 40 years, but only a little over half our lives and we can't help but be a bit sad that we didn't find each other sooner. Difficult to get enough, but impossible to have too much of.
That was iconic seeing you sailing down Sydney Harbour. Sydney Opera House - checked off. You can tell u have been offgrid for a while - overstimulated by the first busy place you viaited. 😊
I saw a few sea snakes in Fiji, managed to get a picture of one and it turned out to be one of the top venomous snakes in the world. Probably wasn't the best idea to chase it down with my camera lol. Keep up the good work James, it's been fun following your journey.
I know someone who breeds giant Spiders .. look up Brazillian Blue leg tarantulas.. Of all your Mexican perishers from what ive seen the Brown recluse potentially has the nastiest Venom.. Australias a whole different ball park. The Heila monsters venom Is in the back of its mouth ...excruciatingly painful im told .. of the snakes im a sucker for the Great horned Rattle snake.. because of its role in Navaho mythology along with his buddy great horned toad .. actually the spiny ant eating lizard .. the one that bleeds from their eyes as defence mechanism. Rhondas wrong about there being nothing that wants to kill you in NZ ... Try a rugby match with the all Blacks😵. 😬🤣😂 BTW
I grew up playing with horny toads and we constantly dealt with rattlesnakes, scorpions and centipedes and both myself and my brother have been stung by brown recluses
That part of Sydney looks really nice, Blackwattle Bay. Ah spiders, yes, you're in funnel web territory there, and as much as I love spiders I wouldn't want to meet one of those, shudder. I hope all goes well for you in Oz. Happy Sails.
I worked for a zoo for a couple of decades and my most embarrassing moment was being bitten by a gila monster (Heee la ). There is no treatment for their bites, and most of the deaths attributed to them were caused by the quart of whiskey treatment (1800s) if bitten in the past. Some cowboys would get bitten every other Friday night, just to get "treated". I ended up with a swollen index finger and knuckle area for a few days, with thumping pain the whole time. It felt like my finger was slammed with a 25lb sledgehammer, coated with glass shards. Known as the most painful of the reptile bites in the world (I was nailed by a cobra as well). Unless dancing with rattlesnakes for your religion, to die from a venomous bite in the US has odds of about 1:100,000 bites may result in fatality. Hollywood has trained us to just see the extraordinary, sensationalized segments of part truths, and stereotype it just like everything else. Even the bible makes up stuff about snakes to instill more fear than necessary. Love the sailing though. I am jealous.
We had tons of rattlesnakes where I grew and I have had probably 12 very close encounters with them , only saw one Gila monster in the wild, he was in an old tire in a pasture we just looked at him for a while and kept the dogs away and moved on
Great videos. You were talking about a rolly night. Not fun I used to have this thing called a flopper stopper, you hang it on the end of the boom. It's a series of cones with a weight but you sit like a catamaran. You probably know about this, but no worries, it's cathartic to write about it. Keep up with the great videos. Thanks
You know better than to walk around in your bare feet in tall grass with your roots!! Keep that sail full and keep living your dream. You are a cat that can. Living free n Texas
You've picked a great "First mate" James. Capable shipmate, good with the camera, great cook, good sense of humor, and a very warm genuine personality! Cool Sailing "Down Under" James and Rhonda!!
The big spiders you will see out and about will be orb weavers in the big webs, or huntsmen which wander around and come inside. Both are pretty harmless. Learn to identify Sydney funnel webs, they live at ground level and don't wander around, so mainly only a concern if you are doing gardening or something. Red backs are just like black widows.
As an Australian, I hardly think about spiders. Snakes - you have to take it seriously. Read about a guy who stayed with aborigines decades ago in the NW living a traditional lifestyle. He said they were very wary of snakes so would burn the scrub around their camps. Sharks - yes, I've got an over active imagination so can't help thinking about them when I'm in the water.
Yes, I did love the content and glad I subscribed. I have friends all over the Pacific thanks to sailors . Coming from a Port as a child, I saw lots of seafood, caught a lot of it, crabs, shrimp, all of it. I do not see many sailors try to catch Shrimp, and I recommend it very much, it isn't that hard to do in the right places. But, you have to be ready for it, get the right net ect. Your smiles light me up. Thanks. Oh, and I love it when you sailed past the Opera House.
bro this is insane, i have JUST found your channel and you have given me the most out of left field flashbacks. Cobblers bay is next to my old Navy base, those apartment looking things atop that hill and that old jetty is where i used to train, its home to the Royal Australian Navy Clearance Divers, i could tell some stories about that place dude, almost none of them good hahaha. what are the odds!!
Cheers from south Texas! Thoroughly enjoy your videos and seeing you happy and healthy! Your doing it right and bringing lots of people joy! Cheers mate
Fun video! You two look so happy! Rhonda I hope you'll do your Risotto recipe on your channel, if it's something else that's fine too! Stay safe guys! 🩵💙⛵️
Lol, love the distinction you make about the way we say, "buoy". I love the way people worried about the dangerous fauna in Australia. I'd hate be to be charged by a brown bear. 🙂If you're near spiders again, get a stick and wave it vertically in front of you as you walk and you'll clear the spiders.
my dad worked in those markets. when i was a child i was going there with him at 3 in the morning to get the best fish for his store brings back memories' awesom markets , Im from the northen beaches but i live on a 27ft boat in Norway now funny how life is , should check that out lions head , and mackeral beach in pittwater think youll like that bro
Gila (Hee-la) Monsters are awesome and crazy when you see them in the wild. Grew up in AZ so very similar wildlife to NM. Crazy that you and Triteia have made it to the other side of the planet. Congrats and looking forward to the next ones!
I hear what you're saying about snakes Rhonda. I'm an expat Kiwi and been here 2+ years. I used to dream about snakes. I became a. paramedic and worked in rural area. We also bought a farm. To be honest I have seen so many now, I also have attended multiple Bites over the years. Very few people die. I'm cautious but not paranoid anymore. Funal web spiders on the other hand (found around Sydney)are very scary! Great video guys.
G'day guy's thanks for another awesome episode from my favourite sailing youtube channel! Barramundi is a good fish to catch and eat if you get a chance you gota give it a go mate! Cheers.
Used to occasionally go in and out of the swinging bridge on our 34ft gaff rig at Blackwattle when it was the main road. It was fun to count how many cars and buses we could delay as the bridge swung out and in.
Just checked out some of your old vids and had no idea the crazy amount of work you did on the refit!! After watching those my budget for my forever boat has gone up by a factor of ten😅
Yeah, it is certainly not like buying a new car 😂 I have friends who bought a new, factory delivered million dollar catamaran who had critical failures all across the pacific, boats require endless amounts of repairs and upgrades no matter what
It's not the spiders you need to worry about, it's the drop bears 😂 cool video, thank you both, i bet Rhonda is loving it on Tritea, such a wonderful boat 🤘👍
Hi James and Rhonda, I’m 64 years old always lived in Australia travel a lot overseas to 29 different countries but I’ve never been bitten by a snake or spider like a lot of things. If you respect them they will respect you. You only snake in Australia then I’ll actually chase. You is a king Brown which you hardly ever see, and even then they’ll only charge you if they feel like they’re being cornered or if they feel trapped, you are not their natural food anyway just enjoy yourself. Just be careful when you go up north Queensland the handbags/crocodiles up there will snap at you they get a half a chance , Cliff from Queensland

Sea snakes are rear fanged and not nearly as problematical as front fanged vipers for instance,
Just found this channel I live near the Spit Bridge probably 1,4nm from cobblers Shame you didnt go up river to a beautiful place called Bantry Bay

That seafood place was huge! I've always wanted to see Australia. Thanks for showing us around.

Yeah we saw lots of massive golden orb weavers
The orb spiders web is incredibly cool. Really thick and strong.
Have you seen the movie on RUclips named the sailor Paul Johnson?
Yes I did not like it
As an Australian a hardly ever think about snakes, spiders or sharks. Such a tiny risk.

How do you handle the sleep deprivation on passages?
You don’t get sleep deprived if you stick to your schedule, other than maybe on days where you make landfall
