- Finally!!! After weeks of waiting I can finally show off some of the updates I’ve made to Postal 4. In this first of many dev blog updates, I’ll be showing you guys the sweet new VFX I’ve made, as well as other fixes :).

Two dialogue suggestions for everyone to consider...
Tossing something, be it an explosive, boomerang, thrown knife, whatever:
_"Hold this for me..."_
_"Can you hold this for me?"_
Taking a leak:
_"Time to drain the main vein!"_
_"Gotta drain the main vein..."
(for that matter, maybe it can be incorporated to "shake" it afterwards, and if you shake it too much, either he or someone nearby says _"...shaking it more than twice is considered playing with yourself...")_
Just my opinion, but I feel like some of the explosion effects need to be aligned a little bit better to hide that they're an "effect" if that makes sense? Like the truck exploding at 2:51 the explosion shows up a bit too far out the front of it, and it's particularly noticeable as just being an "overlay" of sorts once it starts moving as a result. Maybe it's just me and because I was watching the explosions specifically though. I doubt I'd notice as much in game while blowing things up.
all in all these look great kommander but... wasnt postal supposed to be the worse series ever? i mean postal 3 is their best game for being so bad the creators hated it.
Karl. The leaves can have better subsurface scattering if you use Two Sided Foliage shading model.
And If you remap the vertex normals of the leaf cards like a smooth blob sphere, the shading will be much more realistic.
This means the leaf cards will be lit as if they were a sphere instead of a card? I'm new to graphics and currently learning.

I just tried disabling the tangent space thing on a hair material that looked sorta bad and WOW! Huge improvement! Thanks for going a bit depth on the behind the scenes stuff, spreading tips like that helps everyone
man. It is amazing just how much of a difference these (from the outside) 2 small things being changed. Actually makes the game look significantly better.
Edit. I think it is quite appropriate to call it a night and day difference. Bloody beautiful work Kommander.
i think some camera shaking when explosions happen would be a really cool touch

This is seriously a HUGE improvement! Night and day difference, especially with the foliage. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from Postal 4 and it wasn't even on my radar but knowing you're on the team and seeing these changes are causing my hype levels to actually increase lol keep up the great work!
The difference is phenomenal. I didn't expect awesome visual effects from a Postal game, but these are some of the most beautiful and vibrant explosions and flame effects I've seen in any game, not just a Postal one. The series has always struggled with making liquids (hehe) look realistic, and now they definitely do. Amazing work!

I do agree the visuals for the explosions and particles work very well for the new one.
I wonder if it would seem a bit more realistic if there was those explosion screen shaking blur kind of thing
Yeah, the new ones give the feeling of that "OOMFH," and it is somewhat more realistic, instead of the plain "boom" at the cost of being just boring. Like the old one feels like a png of a "boom" while the new one feels like you can feel the shrapnel going everywhere around you, the heatwave, the blast radius. Nicely done, highly appreciated.
Could use some screen space distortion on the explosion to get that compressed shockwave feel.

Great to see behind the scenes. I'm also learning gamedev so it's nice to know. RWS is lucky to have you since you are an 3D artist plus free publicity from your channel. Postal is over the top and the new particles fit that.
Before and after comparisons are always great to see. I look forward to seeing more!

If you want some feedback...
Make the vegetation textures more dynamic, they look just a bit flat.
The explosions are great, you have given them a bunch of verticality, which is specially appropiate for fuel explosions, but ensure that hand grenades and molotovs also have some horizontal spread, they look a bit small, and the grenade could also have more dust and debris in its base.
Nothing like recognizing some of the particle effects being used as ones I've also gotten from the marketplace. Does an odd thing when you see stuff you know intimately well and can identify like "that's the one I was using on my X" or, oh, that was like the 4th or 5th down the row of the overview map they had in the Y pack".
I'm not super into shooter games, but I always appreciate touches of artistry, and I enjoy how your improvements bring an unmistakably better sense of a congruous place. Keep on keeping on!
That looks awesome I love the new particle effects I think the over-top explosions really add to the personality of postal 4
Adding your unique reloads and healing animations would fit perfectly with the comedy of the Postal series.
The old particles look like the 90s to early 2000s limitation particles of postal 2 but the new once look like a modern game which postal 4 is a modern game so it fits a lot better.
Damn so early the audio isn't working.

Karl, they really need to fix interior lighting. In general this game has huge artstyle issue. It doesnt look like a cohesive whole, rather a mishmash clashing styles. It tries to be cartoony, yet strives for realism. Its weird.
Nonetheless I appreciate your work!

This... is actually a real improvement. It makes the game feel much more powerful and the weapons more brutal. I love it, please keep it up!
You are probably the best thing to happen to Postal 4 since release, that piss physic and volumetric lighting is really impressive.
Love the improvements shown here, excited to see them whenever they happen to come out! The only thing I would say bout the game personally is I don’t like how the light reflects on some of the guns, for some it’s a lot and for some I feel like it’s not enough.

Just the explosions look a bit weird. The simulation itself was done rly well, but it just looks like a flat video that gets played. No real depth/volume to it. Maybe having particles/chunks fly out with a smoke trail in all directions would enhance the depth feel of it. But either way, really gooood job. Love behind the scenes stuff :D

@@ColdStarr i have played so many games lmao. modern Wolfenstein, both old and modern are doom, cod, battlefield, nearly every VR game ever, ultrakill and most new blood titles, Minecraft, i cant even begin to list the amount of games ive played because ive been playing them for my whole life, but those are the memorable ones. postal 4 is still the best game ive ever played
@@baldi-gamr-453 Thats fair enough. Personally wouldn't class Postal 4 even in my top 20 games. The game has huge fundamental technical and gameplay issues but each to their own. I had some fun with it, but I can count so many games that are better. Elden Ring, Skyrim, Witcher 3 just the name a few.
The only thing I want is multithread optimisation. Referrering to what DigitalFoundry commented about UE5 vs RedEngine. Why is this important? Well, in a chaotic insane game like Postal, we want to instaspawn over 9000 enemies and then fire 69 grenades per second. So yeah, optimise it the core game engine, and leave the visual bling bling to modders. Piss and love, J

They thought they were hiring a funny skit mime and discovered an experienced and talented 3D artist, that might be the funniest and coolest way to get a job I've ever seen. :D
