  • In this episode of my series “ Walks in Dorset” I explore The Blue Pool - a magical place situated to the South of Wareham on the Isle of Purbeck. Normally I am accompanied by my Whippet , Logan, on my walks but on this occasion he took a day off so instead I was joined by a special guest - my younger Whippet ... Fiver!
    The Blue Pool is a flooded disused clay pit (about 30 foot deep) that was hand dug in the 1800's. It sits within 150 acres of land that is part of the Furzebrook Estate. It was opened up to the public in 1935 when a cafe was opened and was designated a SSSI in 1985.
    The colours of the pool - which vary from bright turquoise, green, grey, reddish brown- change due to light refraction from the clay particles within the water. Basically light gets refracted depending on the size of the clay particles. The pool may appear darker - more inky blue - depending on the time of day, the weather & how the sky is reflected on the surface. The “blue” is actually a reflection of the sky.
    The Blue Pool is open to the public between 9.30am & 5.00pm (last admittance) with a £5 entrance fee (car parking is free). Dogs are allowed but they must remain on lead. There is a cafe, gift shop & toilets.
    As well as being able to have a wander around the pool, there are a number of woodland trails to enjoy.
    The weather was perfect for my walk - a sunny, bright Spring day.

    Stunning scenery. I bet it's even more awesome when the rhododendrons are in bloom. It put me in mind a bit of the Silent Pool in the Surrey Hills. Hope Logan enjoyed his rest and is OK but it was lovely to meet Fiver and he did a great job walking in Logan's paw prints! I liked the musical accompaniment to the photo sequence too - very relaxing with the accompanying beautiful images.

    Well hello Mr Fiver, an excellent video at a lovely location, I bet they won't let me go fishing down there, though watching them will be just as good. I hope you haven't usurped our former overlord Mr Logan, you are both worthy stars now! Can you ask your mate Dave what that lovely snippet of music he regularly uses is from? Does he play in a band or something? Thank you all.

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  2 года назад

      Thank you. All the music from that video came from the RUclips Audio Library (all free from copyright & free to use). A couple of the tracks are by Chris Haugen. Logan will be back next week!

    I thought you visited this place with Logan a short while ago. Fiver behaved impeccably. Walking to heel and watching you the whole time. I suspect you may have some doggy treat in your hand! It looks as if you’ve got a camera system which follows you. Very impressive.

      99% of the time I film on my own but on this walk, someone came with me & they kindly held the camera for me for the "walking" scenes. It was certainly helpful not having to put the tripod up every time!

    Dave has it got any wheelchair friendly trails?

    • @DaveFord
      @DaveFord  2 года назад

      I believe it has - the paths & tracks that I spotted where fairly wide. They were sandy & "bumpy" in places but their website indicates that it is wheelchair accessible. Certainly there were some good large viewing areas to see the pool.
