Just made one of these myself. Good stuff man. As far as spinning reels go you need to keep that spoil just like it is for your baitcast reels. You want the line coming off from the top and going counter clockwise as your spinning reel is going to spool line on clockwise which is what you want to avoid line twist.
I like the simplicity. To maintain tension... I'm gonna slightly modify. Gonna just take a second nut in a nyloc and run it down to the first nut. That way, there is no way the first nut can loosen.
5/4”x6” deck board and unless that bolt is either galvanized or stainless your inspector may frown upon your installation methods but hey we’re just trying to get a hook wet 😂😂😂
I miss my girls being little. It brought joy to me watching this video and hearing them babies in the background. Good job on the spooler too!
Such a simple idea. Love it. I’m swapping out the tension nut with a wing nut. Thanks!

nice man, I can do that with a big spool of braid
If I use two washers that's what keeps the nut from getting too tight?
Preaty cool
I use a pencil in between my toes I'm being 100% honest lol
that’s not a 2 x 4
