Thank you for sharing your visit to this awful place! My wife's Aunt barley survived that place when she was only 6 years old and only talked about it when she was on her death bed.

I was there a few years ago. I felt an obligation to go as I am Jewish. When you were struggling with the words to describe what it was like and how you were “happy” that you had gone there, I completely understand. I too struggled with the words. I’m glad you have each other as you worked and work through these emotions. I found that I was able to cope with the day fairly well, although being in the gas chamber did me in. The big hit for me was days later when I was in Budapest in what had been the Jewish ghetto. All of my in-laws had been detained there. I was crushed. Thank you for bringing your experience for others to see. ❤❤

Thank you for sharing. Struggling for words, but very moving and hoping/praying this kind of evil never happens again.

A man my my mother used to work with was interred on a prison camp. I'm not sure which one. He had lost 3 fingers on one hand in an industrial accident as slave labor. It's probably the only thing that kept him alive. He was then assigned to take the food cart from the kitchen to the prisoners, maybe the guards, I'm not sure. In any event he said he soon learned to pick the lock on the food cart as was able to keep himself fed. I realize he may have been stealing food from other prisoners but I guess in those situations you do what you have to do to survive. LET US NEVER FORGET!

Very carefully done, a subject that many across Europe and the world can never forget and hope and pray will never be repeated. I can't write what I actually think of those people that think that it is made up and a propaganda myth.

MY NEIGHBOR VISITED THE POLISH DEATH CAMPS LAST SUMMER; SHE SAID IT WAS A VERY EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE THAT SHE WILL NEVER FORGET; VERY MATURE MATERIAL, BUT SHE FELT IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR HER CHILDREN TO SEE AND LEARN FROM IT AS WELL.

Very haunting, just goes to show the depths of humanities depravity that occured to those poor people there that all of us must work to overcome each and every human generation. Thanks for the uplpad!

If in the area I think we owe it to ourselves to go, but yes once was enough.

I highly recommend reading Gerda Weisman All But My Life especially for Rebecca. I was made to read it in a really good Women's Studies class I took in college. It's about her life before during and after the war and about the death march and her getting saved, and triumphantly marrying the man that saved her. It's definitely not one I would have chosen. Even though it was sad, it was a great epic story of survival, yes she survived! But I'm so glad I read it! Try it out. Paper book version!

and you were - and yes, shame the world hasn't learned, and there are still so many war and ethnic cleansing deaths still around the world. Bigger shame that the oppressed group that were victims here have become the oppressors in many ways, especially recently, what people can justify to themselves as "for a cause" is still as horrendous now as it was 80 years ago. All around the world there is still way too much war, violence and oppression; and reminding ourselves about how low we humans can go is something we should all be open too, however horrific in a hope to improve the world. Lets hope in another 80 years the world has learnt and improved however I suspect humanity will not, and will have just learned how to more efficiently deal out death to other humans.
