Today I am super excited to talk about one of my favorite style obsessions, leather jackets. They are a men's must-have. I love leather jackets; they're the most badass wardrobe item a man can own. However, there's a razor-thin line between looking like a badass and a dumbass, so I will go over some leather jacket-wearing rules that every man should follow. At the end of the video, you'll see some of my favorite badass leather jacket outfit combinations to make you look like a sex machine.
Price. Under $200 is typically a fake leather jacket and is something other than what I recommend. It will not look like leather and will not wear or last like leather. Authentic leather patinas over time, one of the most beautiful things about leather jackets -- they get better looking as time goes on. If it's under $200, save your money for genuine leather. The average price point for a high-quality leather jacket is around $500. However, Thursday Boot leather jackets have cut out the middleman, so their jackets are high-quality with an incredible $200 price. The quality is equal to my $1,200 leather jackets!
Versatility. I recommend the racer jacket as one of my all-time favorites because it works for men of any age, is minimal and streamlined, and is timeless. The moto-style jacket is a bit more rugged, bad-boy, and one of my favorites as well. My third recommendation for versatility is the bomber jacket, which comes in various styles and colors. It's an incredible option for lightweight and transitioning between seasons.
Fit. Make sure the jacket is a bit snug because it will stretch out and loosen up. You want to ensure the sleeves are not too long; they should not cover your knuckles. Keep in mind different brands have different proportions.
Color. Black is the most classic option, but brown will get you compliments. Brown is a bit more versatile and also less harsh and aggressive. The suppleness will add depth and dimension to your outfit. Gray also adds depth and dimension to an outfit, but it's a bit less versatile. Light tan also is a color to be cautious and careful of. It's not going to be as versatile as a darker brown.
Finish. I love the softness and supplements of suede, but it tends to stain. Higher shine leathers are a bit more robust with durability. Thursday Boot has a hybrid, matte leather with the durability of shiny leather but more texture and contrast like suede.
Age-appropriateness. The moto, racer, or bomber jackets are timeless and can be worn at any age. Some other leather jackets will make you look a little more youthful and like you're trying a bit too hard. Make sure your outfit balances your style and aesthetic. For instance, if you're wearing pleated khakis and a striped polo, don't throw on a bomber jacket with zippers and pads. You will look like a douche. Simple tee shirts and henleys with badass jeans and boots comprise a timeless classic style.
My favorite ways to wear leather jackets
Monochromatic black outfit with Chelsea boots and a moto jacket. It's a great way to combine two colors to make you stand out.
Matte black cap-toe Thursday Boots with slim-fit green cargo pants, a simple white tee shirt, and a matte black racer jacket round out this earthy outfit, which is incredible for fall or winter.
'Upscale refined' as opposed to 'bad-boy chic', I pair beautiful wing-tip brogue Thursday Boots lace-ups with medium wash blue jeans, a simple flannel shirt, and a brown racer jacket. It's a perfect date outfit or casual kicking-it-around-the-town look.

Aaron I know you say your a shorter dude like myself, and I see that the sleeves on these jackets fit you almost to perfection. In my experience most outerwear have sleeves that are way to long and I’ve only been able to get perfect fitting sleeves when I get it custom made. What is your weight and or shoulder /chest / waist / hip

I would definitely blind buy Thursday leather jackets if I knew that the sleeves fit right and the length of the jacket was around
26-26 1/2 inch. Those are numbers that fit most men under 5’ 10”.
My measurements are as follows
Neck 16 1/2”
Shoulders 20”
Chest 46”
Waist 34”

Length in back 26 - 26 1/2”
Sleeve length around a 33 -34”max.

lol I used to wear a German leather trench coat , I got it from an auction , I sold it but it was nice , I got to be honest it was out of style , it was too long , almost touched the ground , people probably taught I'm goth or something , I try not to wear leather coats since I'm trying to be vegetarians now so I stay away from leather coats but I wear one every now and than , I owned 3 long leather trench coats that I sold , I felt like it was out of style , I don't know it looked good I guess but anything longer than your angles is probably too long , you should probably not wear it , guess it depends
as a style tip I would say wear a leather coat with a dress shirt rather than a
t-shirt unless its one of those motorcycle coats , generally speaking leather coats are worn with dress shirts and jeans and casual boots or maybe even cowboy boots , I wouldn't wear a tie with it , ties are too formal

If I was looking for basics, I'd go buy a basic item from a big box store and get it tailored to MY body and it would be cheaper than buying elsewhere.
The has got to be one of his best videos ever. I have bought over 20 jackets in the last year and spent countless hours shopping for all of them. These videos as well as those by Courtney Ryan and many others have helped tremendously!! Great public service being done by a great content creator. I got an Italian made cashmere overcoat that fit perfect at goodwill for $40
I bought the Roadster jacket from Thursday; I am really surprised you did not throw that in their as an alternative to the Racer design. They are similar but the Roadster has a little extra detail which makes it more badass in matte black and slightly thicker leather which most folks will appreciate.

For $70, it has to faux leather. I honestly think $500 is a bit cheap for a quality leather jacket. I'd say $700-$800 is the minimum price for quality.

I agree with most of what you say. With that said I have I some pretty nice expensive leather jackets but I recently discovered Angel Jackets. Their leather is regularly around $200 and the two I've bought to try out are very nice and real lambskin.

Tbh I only started wearing leather jackets when I started to ride motorcycles. Now I have a closet dedicated just to my leather lol. If you ride and want a stylish street jacket. Merlin, Roland Sands, and Helston make some of the best out there.
With the moto jackets I noticed people usually wear them a little looser than instead of gray he typical fitting look… thoughts? I am thinking more getting the MILO jacket from all saints and not sure if it should be a little looser than ‘racer’ jacket or still form fitting

I've currently got two, both bomber style. One is a black leather racer jacket (lamb leather), which I just got recently, and the other is a chocolate brown suede jacket (goat leather).
I managed to get both for 270 and 200 NZD, but they were also both end of season and had been moved to the shop brand's outlet store, so down from 500-600 NZD.
The next one I'm gonna look out for is a Shearling jacket, preferably in dark brown leather.

If you want quality leather jacket go with Belstaff. I own 5 of em. 3/5 i purchased 10y ago and they still look as new. Ofc, with professional leather care every 2 years. To add, they costed me over 800$ each, some even double than that, but its worth if you love leather.
Is it normal that when you wear a leather jacket unzipped, the bottom back is sticking out giving the jacket kind of a triangle shape from the side?
Leather jackets are THE most badass style option a man can rock. Just make sure you grab one that fits. Even if the jacket feels a bit tight, you'll break it in, and it'll feel and look way better on you instead of sizing up.
One thing I want to mention is the price of these things. $500 is quite a bit of money for a lot of people to spend on one clothing item. But the difference in quality once you get to about that $500 threshold is night and day. It's VERY well worth it to save your money a bit longer to get a higher end jacket.
Learning to work the systems will help too. Wait till Spring or Summer if you are thinking about upgrading your jacket game. Almost all companies will be looking to get rid of the previous years fall and winter collections so they'll offer huge discounts. I waited till Summer this year, and grabbed a brand new All Saints jacket for $160 as opposed to its usual $570 price tag. Not saying they'll all go down that cheap, but you'll definitely be able to find some killer deals if you have a little patience and snoop around a bit.
True that price will almost definitely dictate quality of craftsmanship and material but that's not a guarantee that it will dictate if the material is real or not. And it won't dictate whether the style is good for you. If the material is real and the fit is good then the only people who will be able to tell the difference in craftsmanship will be people who buy $500 jackets regularly. And im not about to let myself be judged by somone who shops like that. I agree that we should aim for the best quality we can find on our budget and if we are smart about it then we can find something of amazing quality at an amazing price. Especially if we are willing to shop used

Got my first real leather jacket this week. Its a clean brown sheep nappa jacket with two zippered chest pockets and zippered hand warmer pockets. What i like about it is the strap at the collar and the sleeves with a zippers to close it up in strong wind.

I have the Keanu jacket and chelsea boots in black matte finish and the fit is amazing. The price is a bit high but worth it because the jacket and boots are universal and have the ability to dress it up or down.

Nice video, I'm 23 and I just bough a collared front zip jacket and now I have to know how to wear it. I'm really excited because I bought it for only 30€ because it's arround 20 years old but this jacket cost 300€ but looks brand new, the previous owner told me he never really wear it because he bought it like a whim in a trip to Germany and it wasn't really his style and seeing it in real life I totally belive him it doesn't even have a scratch. The biggest rule is not be overweight with a gut. You can get a great lambskin leather from angel jackets for 180 dollars. Bought a great retro car coat. Gained 10 lbs and now its to tight. Still looks good. You cant tell it fits tight. But its uncomfortable zipped and sitting. That one black jacket you wore looked to tight around your gut. And your thin.
Aero Leather. Best value in the WORLD ! As for colors, try cordovan / burgundy. Looks amazing.

Fit is the biggest roadblock I hit - shoulder vs. waist (swimming fly greatly reduces wardrobe options). Can’t find a tailor to take in the waist. I did check out the link. Nice threads. (sizes stop at 49/50” chest??)

thursdays not only cut the middle man, but they are also not made in the US. That another big reason why they are cheaper. Im not saying they are not good quality, but many people are willing to pay a premium forr made in US/canada products.
I purchased a goatskin leather A2 bomber jacket from Cockpit USA last year. Brown color, of course. My pleated kaki trousers with cuffs look great with leather shoes and a brown leather bomber jacket. Know your style and try on items that work with your style. eBay is a great resource as well as places like Goodwill where you might find something really nice.

I own several pairs of Thursday boots and sneakers. They’re my go to for footwear. Despite that I’m hesitant to jump into their jackets. Style wise they look good but the quality seems iffy. The racer model specifically looks like it’s made of incredibly thin material. Anyone have first hand review?

Great video Alpha. Do you have some info on the size of the racer jacket from Thursday Boots that you have? I’m in Canada and was concerned about the size I should order. 5’11” and 175 lbs with a 42” chest and 31” waist. I own a pair of Thursday Rogue Jodhpur boots. They’re above average for their price and I really like them. I also ordered and returned a different pair because they were too painful and impossible to wear. I own Schott & Vanson Moto leather jackets and other jackets from Italian brands. I refrained from buying any jacket from Thursday because of some of the quality and fit issues reported by other reviews here on RUclips. Stitching sloppiness, poor fit and cheap material like the polyester liner don’t justify their $500 price. This is good commercial for Thursday though.
