Dude, that opening to the song sounds like some classic Final Fantasy. Soken really puts in so much care to make sure he adds some of Uematsu's composition style into Final Fantasy
I don't think this is much like Uematsu's style. He, and others, have composed some dramatic orchestral songs with Latin chanting, but I don't think this sounds like him. I don't have much to compare in FF14, as I haven't played it, but I'll hazard a guess that this is much more similar to Soken's other work, in this genre of music. I don't think Uematsu could compose this track, it seems very different from his typical style. That's not an insult by the way, it's just that composers have their own strengths, nobody can just write every type of music. Uematsu has written music that Soken probably couldn't, just because they are different.
@@strangevision99 I specifically meant the opening to the song. You can't tell me that a chiptune arrangement of the first few seconds wouldn't sound straight out of the NES/SNES era of Final Fantasy

This is one of those songs that simply overwhelms my senses and reduces me to tears. Makes me think back to my choir days, when the sounds of the other voices around me on stage would leave me overflowing with emotions.
I'm finally starting FF16, and I had this exact moment the first time I heard this. The spectacle of the fight was amazing, but my focus was almost entirely on the music while my hands were managing the controller. I started tearing up during certain parts of song, picking up every tiny instrument that Soken had added in to make the tracks more and more bountiful. There's so many parts to tune into, but it's a mesmerizing beauty when it all comes together. I'm gonna listen to this track so much in the days to come, but even just listening to this on my phone is enough to get me misty-eyed.
When I first did this battle I almost died the first time because my brain was not at all operating the controller correctly. I was too busy trying to process what I was seeing and hearing. I honestly felt like I was watching a movie more so than a video game!
I'm glad you followed my advice of putting gameplay footage to avoid a strike, your channel should be safe that way, if you're wondering where i heard about it btw it was mentioned a while ago in FF14, if you look for FF14 tracks on youtube there are uploads from 2014-2015 (and onward) that never got taken down because they had gameplay footage in the back.
My friend I really thank you very much for your advice, and also for what you told me about FFXIV, I didn't know much about it. I think I can upload the other songs, at most I'll wait a few days. So thanks again for everything.
I would pay so much money to see a live orchestra go ballistic on the violins. Please SE, we need another global tour of Distant Worlds or Final Symphony...
After finishing the game and watching this Ifrit vs Phoenix sequence… … it really takes me back to the days as a kid and I’d play mock Kaiju battles or power ranger/megazord scenarios with a buddy or 2 🥲
I'm hopelessly in love with this track. The vocals screaming out the prayers to the Phoenix and begging it to save them, only to shift as they cry for the Phoenix to fly away, to save itself. The whole intro feels like a mad-panic as Joshua has to confront Ifrit, trying to save himself. Specifically the shift of the chords at 0:59 catch my ears. It's so majestic, it feels like Joshua is trying to figure out how to fight back while frantically running for his life.... God, what a gorgeous first track to hear on boot-up.
This better win "Game of The Year" and "Best Score and Music" ! I haven't play the game yet but been carefully watching clips without spoiling myself too much, waiting for it to come out on PC cuz no PS5 xD
Every time they play that leitmotif at 2:58 whenever (spoilers) Joshua shows up in the game fucks me up man; such an epic and emotionally resonant song.
Spoiler Alert : During the Bahumut fight when you regain control of the phoenix you appreciate this music much more and there and then this became my favourite track in this game
This will forever be my favorite video for this music because the uploader doesn't have some grifting or begging for subscribers kinda message, and it's pretty much straight from the actual OST. You're a real one.
Clive has a true shadow side! This story feels so damn real to me. I’m not done playing yet though. Idk how any one* rushes through a masterpiece like this.
Edit: Official lyrics pinned by uploader, LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Doing the best I could, I tried deciphering the lyrics before the final chorus. I will provide some annotations within the replies, but I think it's more fun as community to decipher this as we do in FFXIV. Possible lyrics: All beneath me, stay beneath me ???? All beneath me, stay beneath me ???? ???? A (slumbering) phoenix arises A terrible beast stands before me A whirling darkness arises A haunting ???? ???? It's like a shadow like a shadow Stuck within the struggle, Hungering deep within catastrophe Won't surrender I will 'ever stand above Shadows in the night a swirling cyclone in the sky Look down to the nether Bid farewell forever Throw open your wings and fly Away Away Away [Repeats pre-chorus] Stuck within the struggle, Hungering deep within catastrophe Don't surrender The phoenix will rise above Shadows in the night a swirling cyclone in the sky Look down to the nether Bid farewell forever Throw open your wings and fly Away Away Away
"All beneath me, stay beneath me" Seems to be Joshua, as phoenix, telling the others to get away from the fight between him and Ifrit. While I'm not sure what the second parts are, I know they're different lyrics at least. After that, there's a part that's extremely hard to hear before the first chorus. Anything seen within "()" is simply a guess of course, and while I'm at least 85% possitive of these lyrics: "Stuck within the struggle, Hungering deep within catastrophe Won't surrender I will 'ever stand above" and "Stuck within the struggle, Hungering deep within catastrophe Don't surrender The phoenix will rise above" Being different, they're more than likely the same lyrics. As we know the same thing happens in FFXIV lyrics where the vocals sound different when repeated (i.e. "White Stone Black",) or versus their official lyrics (Majortiy of the XIV songs, "Endwalker - Footfalls" for example.) Of course, we have a few months to a year until the official album drop (or Soken gives us the full transcript of the lyrics before then), we can still enjoy deciphering until then. Feel free to help fill in the "????" and suggestions!
My partner and I of nearly a decade split up about a month ago. This song and the final lyrics are killing me and helping me get through it. Bid farewell forever, throw open your wings and fly….away

It doesn't says it , but I bet Nobuo had his hands dirty in this theme too, i doubt he would let Soken touch his masterpiece without him haha.
I honestly think it's absolutely genius how Soken does vocal lyrics...It's like simulating the feeling of listening to a song in a language you don't understand. The vocals blend with the music so well that it becomes part of it, and you can just enjoy it whether you know the lyrics or not...after which the song just gets even better. In that sense until the actual lyrics are released, the English and Japanese players are both hearing the same thing, and it might as well just be gibberish. The most genius part of that being, it allows Soken to create songs that have LITERAL gibberish for vocals and get away with it. The man is just on another level.
2:59 and 5:30 are when the "Circled in the strife of an empyreal catastrophe" part kicks in !! and I really like it, I would like to make a looped vid with only them.

This Game will be so Nostalgic in couple of year.
years*
I wish I could listen to this for the first time again
I would pay so much money to see a live orchestra go ballistic on the violins. Please SE, we need another global tour of Distant Worlds or Final Symphony...
After finishing the game and watching this Ifrit vs Phoenix sequence…
… it really takes me back to the days as a kid and I’d play mock Kaiju battles or power ranger/megazord scenarios with a buddy or 2 🥲
I'm hopelessly in love with this track.
I also love how the violins play an intense melody that takes a long time to resolve, in tremolo. That part in the song fits perfectly the scene.
Sorry Clive, but Joshua arguably has the best theme among the Dominants.
Bahamut with Ascension though
Bahamut man. But, they are all amazing.
Heart of stone is one hell of a theme too, and where do i even begin with Shiva. Too bad she wasn't a constant presence in the game.
All of them are good.
The best OST in 2023 ! 🤩 So fking epic, I want it when we're gonna fight The Nothing
Masayoshi Soken wasn't messing around when he composed this. Its a fucking masterpiece. Can't wait to see a live orchestra play this live 😲
This is my GOTY
This is the* GOTY
Mine as well.
Would have been without the bad side quest, the lame deplacement in the world, the repetitive gameplay and the lame ending.
Mine too
@@ekoonexehow was the ending lame? You expect it to be a happy fairy tale ending?
oh wow the extra quality really helps in hearing the instruments in this
I will never forget my first play through of XVI. Masterpiece!
1:55 is when shit starts to get serious. those drums go so hard
Dude I love this part so much
That timpani player goes sicko-mode
I hope Soken, Yoshi P and the rest of his team that made FF16 could make FF17. They are the best team to handle the next FF as of now.
This better win "Game of The Year" and "Best Score and Music" ! I haven't play the game yet but been carefully watching clips without spoiling myself too much, waiting for it to come out on PC cuz no PS5 xD
That's how you do an opening sequence. The music really elevated the whole fight
"Look up to the heavens
The firmament reddens
Throw open your wings and fly"
What a godly lines.
And congratz for the Best Score and Music win!
"Whorls of ire fan infernal flames on high!
Fire in the night
A scarlet beacon in the sky"
BARS BARS BARS
Every time they play that leitmotif at 2:58 whenever (spoilers) Joshua shows up in the game fucks me up man; such an epic and emotionally resonant song.
what the fuck is the point of saying (spoilers) just before the spoiler ???!
Wait till you fight Bahamut
Spoiler Alert :
During the Bahumut fight when you regain control of the phoenix you appreciate this music much more and there and then this became my favourite track in this game
I love how you can hear the FF1 Dungeon theme baked into this song right off the rip. That is such an awesome call back!
This will forever be my favorite video for this music because the uploader doesn't have some grifting or begging for subscribers kinda message, and it's pretty much straight from the actual OST. You're a real one.
Reading these words fills me with joy, I just try to do my best. Thank you my friend, I wish you all the best, with all my heart.
Another Eikon of Fire ?
Impossible !
Proceeds to get Thanos' out of the world
Loved many moments of this game. Will never forget.
Rise for our Best Soundtrack Anthem
OST of the _year,_ baybeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
200% deserved
2:59 Time to crank up the volume up to eleven!
Clive has a true shadow side! This story feels so damn real to me. I’m not done playing yet though. Idk how any one* rushes through a masterpiece like this.
Not me screaming “GOOO JOSHUA GOOOOO😭😭” during this entire fight
Square Enix "Bro, we need over the top music, can you do that?"
Soken "YES".
The best song in all of the FF series. It's so so so effing EPIC!
Possible lyrics:
All beneath me,
stay beneath me
????
All beneath me,
stay beneath me
????
????
A (slumbering) phoenix arises
A terrible beast stands before me
A whirling darkness arises
A haunting ????
????
It's like a shadow
like a shadow
Stuck within the struggle,
Hungering deep within catastrophe
Won't surrender
I will 'ever stand above
Shadows in the night a swirling cyclone in the sky
Look down to the nether
Bid farewell forever
Throw open your wings and fly
Away
Away
Away
[Repeats pre-chorus]
Stuck within the struggle,
Hungering deep within catastrophe
Don't surrender
The phoenix will rise above
Shadows in the night a swirling cyclone in the sky
Look down to the nether
Bid farewell forever
Throw open your wings and fly
Away
Away
Away
"All beneath me,
stay beneath me"
Seems to be Joshua, as phoenix, telling the others to get away from the fight between him and Ifrit. While I'm not sure what the second parts are, I know they're different lyrics at least. After that, there's a part that's extremely hard to hear before the first chorus.
Anything seen within "()" is simply a guess of course, and while I'm at least 85% possitive of these lyrics:
"Stuck within the struggle,
Hungering deep within catastrophe
Won't surrender
I will 'ever stand above"
and
"Stuck within the struggle,
Hungering deep within catastrophe
Don't surrender
The phoenix will rise above"
Being different, they're more than likely the same lyrics. As we know the same thing happens in FFXIV lyrics where the vocals sound different when repeated (i.e. "White Stone Black",) or versus their official lyrics (Majortiy of the XIV songs, "Endwalker - Footfalls" for example.)
Of course, we have a few months to a year until the official album drop (or Soken gives us the full transcript of the lyrics before then), we can still enjoy deciphering until then.
Feel free to help fill in the "????" and suggestions!
Definitely Music of the Year, as much as i want to say GOTY, we have to see how it holds up to the other game's coming out
I tear up whenever I listen to this piece. It's just magnificent. I'm waiting for the concerts. If I can go I will, with multiple tissue boxes 😂
This game impresses me in the way it just keeps one upping itself with the fights and cinematics and music and everything, it’s just so damn awesome
My partner and I of nearly a decade split up about a month ago. This song and the final lyrics are killing me and helping me get through it.
Bid farewell forever, throw open your wings and fly….away
Such a moving piece that makes the heart soar and sing. Throw open your wings and fly. =)
this song takes sibling fight to nother level
I'm more than a little motivated to tie down some modern artists and force them to listen to this on repeat so they can hear what actual music sounds like.
The soundtrack of this game is a work of art and a treasure.
1:18 to 1:32; legendary part.
Never played a game of this spectacle before. Oh how I wish to erase my memories and relive this game all over again.
I hereby leave my mark on fate for this soundtrack is and always will be a masterpiece that is yet to be topped or match by other game OST's
Soken is a genius
I've not played the game yet but eikons/summons have been my fav part about FF games. XVI is peak summon fun
The music in this game is S++ tier. Don't even pretend it's not incredible.
Its crazy we can have a whole orchestra in our room
The human necessity of having an epic final stand while this plays in the background
Circled in the strife of an empyreal catastrophe
Whorls of ire fan infernal flames on high!
Fire in the night
A scarlet beacon in the sky
Look up to the heavens
The firmament reddens
Throw open your wings and fly!
AWAY!!!
AWAY!!
AWAAAAAAY!!!!!!
Magnífico, glorioso y poderoso, el gran Eikon de Fuego Fénix
Joshua is too precious
easily became one of my favorite OST's in gaming.
Still can't believe people hate on this game
Se quedaron un poco atrasados en la nostalgia
I love how the Cloud of Darkness theme have evolved. Only Soken could have converted what already was a masterpiece in a more iconic masterpiece.
I also hear Assault of the Silver Dragons from IX around 1:00
I'm trying so hard but I just can't see it... When do you hear CoD's theme?
@@mThund3R_ No worries. Soken is really good at putting this things unnoticed.
I believe Nobuo and him worked this them for FFXIV too:

I think this is the original one from NES

In this video it kicks you right from the beginning. They are not exactly the same of course. That is because i think is just a reference and I said it "evolved". But true to be told, this game OST is full of references to other FF games. Sadly I will give spoilers if i post it here.

@@yomly By the Founder !!! you are right. Oh Soken, you have done it again hahaha
I am guessing you are referring to this part ?
ruclips.net/user/clipUgkxi_-dghnvkIQPIxIHiXiFQP7sGq06wXyY
Again, not the same.. but is definitely a reference. It doesn't says it , but I bet Nobuo had his hands dirty in this theme too, i doubt he would let Soken touch his masterpiece without him haha.
In Find the Flame just heard a very similar opening as to Apocalypsis Noctis from XV
Esto es droga en vena directamente, el tema se mete dentro y te lleva hasta arriba, junto con el combate, Muy Epico
For OST part alone. the FF16 should've been in TGA GOTY nominations.
They done fucked up. Now we won’t here any of these themes smh
Well, it won best Score/Music on TGA though
I honestly think it's absolutely genius how Soken does vocal lyrics...It's like simulating the feeling of listening to a song in a language you don't understand. The vocals blend with the music so well that it becomes part of it, and you can just enjoy it whether you know the lyrics or not...after which the song just gets even better. In that sense until the actual lyrics are released, the English and Japanese players are both hearing the same thing, and it might as well just be gibberish.
The most genius part of that being, it allows Soken to create songs that have LITERAL gibberish for vocals and get away with it. The man is just on another level.
I mean yeah its great but having gibberish as lyrics sounding good isn't some super unique thing
@@rigby8701 Well the "good" part is that it isn't gibberish.
It just sounds like gibberish!
2:07 to 2:32 sounds so much like a callback to Torn From The Heavens, I love it.
I was just about to comment the same thing! I'm glad I'm not the only one who hears it.
Bro the game peaked two hours in and KEPT PEAKING!
GOTY 2023!!!
2:59 and 5:30 are when the "Circled in the strife of an empyreal catastrophe" part kicks in !!
and I really like it, I would like to make a looped vid with only them.
You know when a music so fire that you can see it ? This is one of them
I love how this theme incorporates the song from the reveal trailer
Jesus Christ, everything in this OST is amazing. But that percussion is beyond levels of insane!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This song is so FIRE
As a long time FF fan, this track just became my favorite in the series
as I listen to this music and watch the video, I feel an ache in my chest knowing there's a literal 10-year-old child who exhibits god-like powers fighting for his life against a monster bent on killing him
