- Witness the first runs of Kahalui Railroad No. 12, a 1927 Baldwin 2-6-2 nicknamed the "Pineapple Princess," at the Midwest Central Railroad of Mount Pleasant, Iowa. This locomotive was built for service in Hawaii, where worked for many decades. After falling into disrepair, in 1967 was shipped to the US mainland for restoration. It eventually wound up at the Midwest Central, where it sat out of service for many years. In the 1980s it was rebuilt with a new boiler for a tourist railroad/theme park operation in Idaho, and then was sold again in 2005 to the Colorado Historical Society for service on the Georgetown Loop Railroad at Silver Plume, Colorado. Its small size limited the number of cars it could pull on the Loop, so it was traded (for ten years) to the Midwest Central in exchange for their much larger 3-Truck Shay locomotive No. 9. No. 12 returned in Iowa via truck a few weeks before the 2012 Midwest Old Threshers Reunion.
Number 12 was in regular operation during the 2012 Reunion.
You'll see it from various points along the MCRR loop, and ride the cab with engineers Dave and Walt Osier.

Nice video!
Great looking engine.
Good video
I couldn't get to the Reunion this year, and it was breaking my heart. Now, thanks to you, I've had my "fix".
On a side note, I guess"Percy" was not running this year?
Oldiecarl
I really wish that the 12 could return home to Hawai'i. Probably not on the Lahaiana, Kaanapali and Pacific, but the Hawaiian Railway Society to join their #6 when it gets running again.
The #16(Percy) won't be running for a while the plan is to get the #2 up and running first
its time you do a video on the 6
Is that Westside 9's whistle on the 12?
