  • Footage shot in 2011 of Black Hills Central 2-6-2T 104 in operation on the 1880 Train between Hill City and Keystone, South Dakota. I have uploaded several other videos featuring this locomotive, but this is the first to be filmed/uploaded in High Def. All the standard locations are shown - the climb out of Keystone, footage in Echo Canyon, the valley at Palmer's Gulch, Tin Mill Hill, etc....
(Note: the B&W intro is in Standard Def)

I love going to Hill City and riding the 1880 train. I practically live for that whistle.

I live for that 2-6-2's whistle. Whenever I go to Hill City or Keystone and the surrounding area, I can always hear it echoing through the hills. Kinda ghostly-sounding.

This was filmed on one afternoon - two runs between Hill City and Keystone.

I know that D&SNG has some CB&Q whistles on their locomotives. I wonder if the 1880 Train's 104 has a CB&Q whistle as well?
