I love the moment at about 7:18 where the left arm totally falls apart and you just take a breath and it feels like you're on the cusp of swearing. Excellent review again, dude. You're my go-to guy every time for this stuff.
This video saved me from this figure.i always loved your reviews anthony. Most reviewers would just say "balljointed this and balljointed that" when it really isnt it drives me insane when a reviewer does that but your reviews were always the most informative.
I just got this figure today. It’s an overall great figure but there are a few things I wish was done differently. I don’t know if anyone else in the comments section already mentioned this but it’s definitely the Street Fighter 4 look of Akuma. In earlier games, his eyes were just flat red whereas SF4 introduced him to have these red-black eyes with red pupils to give the appeal of his red eyes glowing. Also in earlier games, he had brown colored gloves that were the same as the other Shoto characters. SF4 is the first game where he had ropes around his wrists and hands instead. I’d also like to point out that I do find it quite interesting that the design of the figure is from SF4 but the stage backdrop is from SF5.
With the skin, it seems like they were going for a 'sweat' look. Strange but it's a consistent choice throughout the whole figure. As for his height, we know he's usually shown to tower Ryu, it their heights are listed as 5'9" (Ryu) and 5'10" (Akuma) so the height works for me. I received mine's days back and I'm very happy with it.
+Jeffrey Cruz they definitely aren't going for a sweat look. It's just a bad production decision/mistake. I know the height is accurate. That's why I talked about it.
To be clear, if they were going for a sweaty look, they would have advertised it instead of showing protos and promo shots of a figure with a standard (non-glossy) finish and probably not just used a cheaper glossy plastic but use a glossy clear paint to apply the effect. Also, for a demon who lives in a volcano, I wouldn't expect him to sweat very much from a little martial arts lol
Funny thing is, as they detached SFV logo from Gouki, the background card is still taken from SFV Akuma's back scene. Bandai is going everywhere with their SF line.
I find it funny how a lot of his complaints on this figure are also present on the Ryu figure (which he liked). The arms being able to only go up to 90 degrees to the side, the wide ankles, the sculpt of the upper arm (although it’s more pronounced on Akuma since he’s bulkier), are also found in Ryu. I honestly feel that his emotions got the better of him in this review and he became overly critical of an otherwise very good figure in my opinion.
AnthonysCustoms Facts huh? Try raising Ryu’s arm higher than Akuma. Compare their ankles and biceps (factoring in Akuma is a bulkier guy). What I stated are facts too.
Could you upload a video update if you decide to hit this guy with a dull coat? It would be really interesting to see. Akuma is my favorite character from the SF Series, and while I'm still excited to get him, I'm disappointed in the inconsistent quality of Bandai.
Thanks for this review man. You just saved me some money. Cancelling my order. Can't see spending 55 bucks on this figure. Maybe we'll see a classic version from Storm Collectables.
Do you think the quality may have dipped due to the figures being more mass produced, regarding that Figuarts are now sold at Toys r us? I had gotten my Figuarts and Storm Ryu there so I'd assume Akuma would show up since they also had Chun-li.
to me it is very strange that they suddenly opted for a sfiv look when they already put out 4 figures from sfv. even his background is from sfv. not that i prefer the lion look from sfv but if i'm collecting figures from sfv i don't want one from sfiv in the middle of my collection. this figure is such a disapointment, and i'm not even mentioning the QC issues. this is just saddening
I have this figure myself, and I never got the shiny skin on him. But I did encounter his left leg popping off a few times and his overall build feeling like cheap plastic. I still love the figure and the line as a whole though because I am also a Street Fighter figure collecter. Good review buddy ^^
Oh and his left arm comes apart too when you force his arm to go up because of the softness of the gi, and the bulkiness of his arm. Another thing, Akuma’s Hadouken is called a “Gohadouken”. One more thing, yes the design of the figure is based off of Street Fighter IV along with Sakura.
Another WIN for Storm Collectibles for the little bit of articulation you loose you get a phenomenally amazing figure where look and aesthetics go hand in hand with articulation I LOVE storm wish they did more franchises DBZ ,Marvel , DC can you imagine a SC Batman OMG . This Akuma looks bland and tame next to the amazing Akuma SC Released all I need is SF4 head to swap when I want a different look and it would be.....Perfection !!!!
Ok, the skin tone i think is very close to what we saw in SFIV. The "cartoonish" look of the figure is not a problem, bro... I mean, every SF character has that style, and specially Akuma, he has bulldog-like face (or at least that's what i've always compared him with) and the pants, they don't have almost any wrinkle even in the game because if you pay attention to the game, his pants are not baggy at all, they're almost like a skinny look or something like that
Great review Anthony!!! I'm a big Akuma fan but I'm not fond of,the flower head look. As such I had high hopes and was looking forward to this version. As you pointed out though there are some problems. For me the biggest is definitely the oiled down skin. It's like he greased himself up and walked out the door headed to a freaking gay orgy LOL. Anyway im still gonna pick this up as I still think it's better then flower power. If you do hit yours with some touch up paint please post pics as I may want to try that myself. Keep up the great work and thanks!!!!!
Akuma is my favourite charácter of all time and I usually collect any action figures of him. But I dont think I will buy this. I dont like the design very much, is like cartoonish and dont seems to have the demonic ferocity all Akuma figures must have. Also, the shiny plastic made this look cheap.A pity, because it have his original look, not the ridiculous SFV lion-flower design... By the way, this is like a fate-joke, because Storm Collectibles figure is superb, but with the new design and this is disappointing but with the classical design. Damn.I hope Storm collectibles made a classical Akuma for the Tekken 7 line.
Good review I do want to point out though that your complaint about the gi difference with Ryu and also the different textures with Ryu are a little misinformed, there are many different styles for a martial arts gi and Ryu in particular looks to have more of a judo GI. Myself I can confirm those two different textures are accurate to an older gi I have worn where the top was a heavier material and looked very much like my Ryu figure while the bottoms were more of a light canvas type and looked rather flat. So see a hint of realism in a plastic figure of a fictional character.
you're wrong. i'm not misinformed. the figure had texture on the top and not the bottom where in the game the textures really don't differ. Canvas is most certainly not a smooth finish. Also, Ryu doesn't use Judo...
I wasn't saying he does judo simply giving a reference as to why the jacket and pants are different simply reflecting a different type of GI many martial arts that utilize throws, as Ryu clearly does, have a heavier jacket material. I apologise for saying you were misinformed but I am not wrong either you choose to see it as a flaw and I'll choose to see it as a style choice we can leave it at that.
Ben Ben that's all fine and good but why would the figure that they made oddly cartoony and not realistic need what you're describing as a hyper realistic gi or clothing? It makes absolutely no sense and makes your argument rather pointless.
I know it doesn't say but that's the look. Street fighter IV is the only game Akuma has the rope gloves. All other games are the normal glove and belt. It's really accurate to the game.
I think I mostly wanted more shading, overall, or just expected more from SH, since I really like Akuma lol. Also my dislike for Storm's choice of design (SFV, but that makes sense for the line) upsets me.
This figure is definitely based on his SF4 look. The SF4 look is the only game where he looks his usual iconic look but has ropes wrapped around his wrists. The SF5 nostalgic look has his wearing a black belt, the ten symbol on the front bead of his necklace, and red gloves like Ryu. Every other game, he’s either wore a black belt with brown gloves, his rope belt with black gloves, or in the SF3 series, rope belt with brown martial arts and fingerless gloves with white steaks of hair on the sides of his head. That said, the figure doesn’t look GOD AWFUL but it’s a massive shame that it still has all its problem that it does. I personally hate the “Fighting Body” articulation as most of it just looks ugly and figuarts figures like the DBZ or Power Rangers figures overall accomplish the same articulation yet look much more aesthetically pleasing. That along with the sculpt of this figure and the finish on the skin tone makes it look so cheap. Such a shame really.
You really do love to hate on the figs man. I see that the skin is glossy but c'mon you do customs it is an easy fix for you and your reviews always deliver negativity it is like you do perfect figs tho. Do an akuma fig poseable and that doesnt have you gripes lets see if its better than the figuarts smh.
There's so much wrong with your comment I'm not even going to try. Why would you watch a review and then whine when the reviewer talks about the flaws? That's ridiculous.
AnthonysCustoms Flaws? Lol I dont think so man! You just have a high standards when it comes to figs and yet you dont make a perfect one especially when it comes to anatomy. Smh You probably dont do much with your figs or what not but yeah it is your review thats why many toy reviewers are saying that you are trash 💯 I guess theyre right. Also, you broke your fig dumb*ss for pushing it to its limit
The two card backgroud art comes from SFV stage. So basically it's akuma from sfv, and the design comes from a "nostalgia costume" for akuma in sfv.
+Arnie Formilleza no. Just the cards.
I love the moment at about 7:18 where the left arm totally falls apart and you just take a breath and it feels like you're on the cusp of swearing.

The a lot for the support. Happy to help! It's a shame you have to make a comment like this.

I’m sorry for what shf did for this akuma. Better luck next time Anthony!
Funny thing is, as they detached SFV logo from Gouki, the background card is still taken from SFV Akuma's back scene. Bandai is going everywhere with their SF line.
yep
Hey Anthony. Whatever happened to your Akuma statue?
It’s not sweat, he just got through with a match against Hakan.
i think youve figured it out.
+archienov no. None of those things were present on ryu to the extent they are here. Your opinion doesn't override facts.
AnthonysCustoms Facts huh? Try raising Ryu’s arm higher than Akuma. Compare their ankles and biceps (factoring in Akuma is a bulkier guy). What I stated are facts too.
Lol, he never accepts criticism.
Great review had a laugh at the left out laundry. Such a letdown was really looking forward to this one.
Fat ankles
I’ll wait until I catch it on sale somewhere. What’s up with S.h.figuarts line lately?!
as soon as people are hooked, quality can go down and profits can go up.
Could you upload a video update if you decide to hit this guy with a dull coat? It would be really interesting to see. Akuma is my favorite character from the SF Series, and while I'm still excited to get him, I'm disappointed in the inconsistent quality of Bandai.
I wonder exactly where did u get this figure? Because I know they have some that are cheap and some expensive
The super tiny shoulder ball hinges cracked me up.
Looks fine to me
This is the best figure that I have right in my collection
Remember when Buzz lightyear lost his arm? Same feeling here except because I like Akuma.
Since I play Street Fighter A LOT I can tell it's Street Fighter 4.
Thanks for this review man. You just saved me some money. Cancelling my order. Can't see spending 55 bucks on this figure. Maybe we'll see a classic version from Storm Collectables.
Mine is not shiny. It's matte like Ryu.
Who are your top 10 Street Fighter characters? I would really like to know.
What?
Do you think the quality may have dipped due to the figures being more mass produced, regarding that Figuarts are now sold at Toys r us? I had gotten my Figuarts and Storm Ryu there so I'd assume Akuma would show up since they also had Chun-li.
i think they might be rushing. im not sure the quantities have gone up enough to warrant a quality drop.
to me it is very strange that they suddenly opted for a sfiv look when they already put out 4 figures from sfv. even his background is from sfv. not that i prefer the lion look from sfv but if i'm collecting figures from sfv i don't want one from sfiv in the middle of my collection. this figure is such a disapointment, and i'm not even mentioning the QC issues. this is just saddening
I still think sota released the best akuma figure. He looks good with my sh figuarts ryu. Still had high hopes for this. Great review thanks.
Storm Collectibles has definitely surpassed SH Figuarts in their respective Street Fighters Line
Man I’m hoping Stone Collectables makes Cammy and Vega, a classic Akuma would be cool too.
bunnyfreakz ye
Even if some of the issues were resolved, I still wouldn't pay the 60. I'll wait till they go down in price
Disappointing that this figure isnt better. Especially cos i prefer this akuma to the weird cowardly lion look in sf5.
I have this figure myself, and I never got the shiny skin on him. But I did encounter his left leg popping off a few times and his overall build feeling like cheap plastic. I still love the figure and the line as a whole though because I am also a Street Fighter figure collecter. Good review buddy ^^

Oh I think it’s this one you guys where talking about the akuma original version
Are you getting Ken and Sakura?
+Aaron Rainge of course
Another WIN for Storm Collectibles for the little bit of articulation you loose you get a phenomenally amazing figure where look and aesthetics go hand in hand with articulation I LOVE storm wish they did more franchises DBZ ,Marvel , DC can you imagine a SC Batman OMG . Do you do custom head request?
Pretty weird the figure does look like it’s from sf4 but the background is sf5

And plus I have that figure.
So it's not just the same parts reused? You mean ryu-sed? Lol
Man, he trully wasted the oportunity there!
actually. i didn't.
1:21 got it now haha, good job man!
Maybe he's shiny since it's raining in his backdrop
Does anyone’s shf akuma’s arm pop off?
Watch this review lol
i think it's only good for display purposes only...hope they improved this
Not the same parts RYUsed! Get it?
Wish you had compared size with the Sota Akuma.
+Robert Lunarr I measured the figure. You can compare it to anything else I've reviewed
It was more just to see the evolution of the character as a figure. Not really about scale.
I’m not going to lie. I would have lost my shit and thrown that figure across my basement. I applaud your patience.
Good review I do want to point out though that your complaint about the gi difference with Ryu and also the different textures with Ryu are a little misinformed, there are many different styles for a martial arts gi and Ryu in particular looks to have more of a judo GI. Thanks because the ryu and akuma you showed me is the one's I am eating thanks bro ;-)
Good thing I got the Storm Collectibles one.
Black Gear Good thing I didnt get that one. Horrible design for Akuma. Mufasa. Lol
I have both the akuma and ryu figures
Anthony are you going to be reviewing the new wave of dragon ball super dragon star figures?
not sure.
I just got them today and they are much better than the first wave. Trunks is the weakest one of the group
Go hado is what akumas are called
O la figura es muy pequeña o este tipo del video mide 2 metros y medio de alto.
It's supposed to be the street fighter IV look. And it's is the metsu Hadoken.
where did they say it's supposed to be street fighter iv?
I know it doesn't say but that's the look. Street fighter IV is the only game Akuma has the rope gloves. All other games are the normal glove and belt. It's really accurate to the game.
Lol, you really shut him up.
where's the Kanji on his Back? MESSATSU?
Gem Macaraeg nAni!?!
it's not supposed to be there all the time.
Bandai original still having loose joint problem?
definitely not shf 2.0 design
Sweaty Akuma
Like I mentioned though, def not a fan of this, just lacks a ton of paint.
+Ocelot it has shading on all the parts...I don't understand why you keep saying it needs more paint.
It looks bland, man. His skin especially.
i agree the color they chose is not good but it has shading throughout.
I think I mostly wanted more shading, overall, or just expected more from SH, since I really like Akuma lol. Also my dislike for Storm's choice of design (SFV, but that makes sense for the line) upsets me.
His forearm arm falls off so he removes the whole thing and moves on lmao
I wish storm collectibles did this look, not a fan of the SFV look.
I subscribed and liked the video
just like Nappa! damn why do they keep trying to fix something that's not broken
I mean't getting not eating
I don't get why you dont make your figures better. I do it all the time. Use some flat coat and its fixed.
Conclution: It has some serious quality issue and strange engineering.
He's from tekken 7
And I was expecting more praise for this due to it being street fighter. Fair review.
i never do that. that's why i've said naruto figures are good even though i couldnt care less about naruto.
AnthonysCustoms it’s appreciated. Very honest reviews. Never change.
what you are shf akuma gouki wow good
lubed akuma. idk man, I prefer the Storm Collectibles. #AkumaMatata
Im the power made flesh . feel how weak my articulations are
The music is my far0
Nice figure
Could be from tekken 7?
It isn't lol
Wooden beads would have helped.
No need to get this one when you can get the Storm Collectibles Akuma.
You forgot to mention the lack of back symbol too... this fig is a mess
no, i didnt. akuma doesnt just walk around with a symbol on his back.
Why are you body shaming AKUMA?.LMAO. good review
This figure is definitely based on his SF4 look. The SF4 look is the only game where he looks his usual iconic look but has ropes wrapped around his wrists. The ball joints on the arms sux.
hopefully the sakura figure doesn't stink, but at the rate this street fighter line has been going at i dunno
Dam debating on canceling
Check out D Amazings review.
I'm sooooo glad they canceled my figure, because this is not worth the money.
still prefer this than storm tho, due to the design choice
hey anthony can you make another video after you spray him with some dull coat....i think many would like to see the results
Great review fellow collector. I am going to keep the order in the queue and hit it up with a dull coat.
is this a bootleg? looks like a china copie
no. but thats the problem with the figure.
poor quality. damn it. already ordered it 😢
This is definitely a rushed production and they just used whatever ideas from ryu and just make a bit different sculpt.

Also, you broke your fig dumb*ss for pushing it to its limit
I think this an sfiv figure
Shun Goku Satsu!!
Great SFIV figure :)
sigh...
Definitely SF4
Marvel Legends did a great Jo-...
IM OFFENDED I HAVE THAT
it looks very cheap
Salt is strong with Anthony :)
The glossy skin makes him look like a cheap figure, just like a bootleg.
Not as good as your bust
Hahahahahaha, its a very bad figure, they should let storm collectibles handle the street fighter figures
so much arm falling off lmao
