Ray Phillips singing here was one of the original two lead singers and still looks pretty much the same here as in 1964. He's the only original here but his band sounds great.
@@ashleylongley623 I worked with Ray at McLaren, super guy, obviously supremely talented. My wife sang a couple of songs with the Teens at one of the team parties.
These are a great live band. I saw them at least three times in the early 1980s when they were having something of a revival. Ray is a great vocalist with a great voice and a lot of stage presence. There is little justice in Mick Jagger's success with his weedy little voice compared to the relative lack of success enjoyed by Ray with his powerful, expressive voice. I saw the Rolling Stones live (with Ron Wood) and they were not a patch on the Nashville Teens live. The Teens sounded just like they do on records. The Stones sounded much worse than they do on record. I've seen a lot of groups live, and the only ones who were as good as the Nashville Teens were the Animals, who also had a lead singer with a powerful, expressive voice (Eric Burdon) and great musicians to back him up.
You may be right, and he certainly had a lot of charisma and stage presence. Lucky he had Keef though, he probably wouldn't have written too many songs on his own, I think.
Dan Michaels Strangely enough, I liked the Troggs myself, although I never saw them live. Simple songs with good hooks and a straightforward message. The original garage band. And so different from the trippy, indulgent and abstruse psychedelic music that followed in 1967, just a year or two later. There's a couple of groups who were also around at the same time who recorded good music of a similar type. One was the Austalian group the "Easybeats" who recorded that great song "Friday on my mind" and the other was I believe an American group who recorded "Are you a boy or are you a girl?" I miss groups like those and their music.
Blues fan Yeah politics really hurt rock music. It's like all the fun left around 1967 and groups standing their ground got ignored. 22 year old dope fiends suddenly became "deep" thinkers.
@@relaxflyrepeat2302 Thanks Ian. Wouldn't have spotted that. Don't suppose you know which model? I can't see anything on the Aria website which seems to match that control setup. Their PE range looks close but two pots with two switches between them?

Nice performance so many years later.
The single was a classic, but this is one TREMENDOUS performance. Superb!
A really great and underrated song ...
Pete Agate...a phenomenal guitarist .
Yep got to have the piano
I played in a band in the late 60's, and we covered this song. Hope we were as good!

What instrument did you play?
@@RobertCawood-pf9nh Rhythm guitar.
Great lead.
Miss the iconic piano from the recording.

The greatest frontman in the history of Rock n' Roll! He's got the moves and the voice! Why isn't he more popular?
he is in England...........I adore him
@@chocolatcats I knew Ray as the guy who drove shit around for McLaren, until one day he gave us a couple bars and tried to sell me a CD LOL

Ez is kedvenc!
they did it right this night
The only thing that is missing is the piano.
@@stingray4real There are some crucial harmonies missing as well.
Proud to report that he mate with our Little Bírd in Hungary upon his multiple visits :) end of sixties guess her name!
I saw the Nashville Teens live around the time of Ray's 65th birthday.
He joked that he'd just got his bus pass.
+bigtone1348 I envy you....what an honor that must have been...just to see him in person.
Hey! ..their club is still working in Surrey
@@chocolatcats My husband played with them for 10 years before playing with Peter Green, now plays with spinoutuk
Damn that guitar solo sure made up for the lack of a piano
No it didn't.

I'd guess Mick's writing a lot of great material was key.

I'm guessing that is Peter Agate on guitar. Anyone know what model of guitar he's playing that solo on?
Albert Burton maybe a PRS...
