In terms of frequency response it looks like it'll be the same as the S-Mic 2 and 2s. They've kept the same weather resistant internals and diaphragm for the mic. A bit mid-rangey straight out of recording, but can be EQ'd to match the 416 really well. Doesn't have the same rich low end "suck" that the mkh-50 has but then again no mic does. Certainly wont be the same as a rich flat response like anything from Schoeps. The biggest indicator of the price however lays in the side rejection. It doesn't sound as natural as more expensive alternatives, and can be muddy at times. BUT, these mics really truly do kick ass for their price point. I've worked several professional gigs with them and they were workhorses. They have so many professional features at an accessible price point and they get the job done. Really excited to get my hands on the 3 series to see how much difference the weight makes, but mainly I just want those pretty wooden boxes too. Happy mixing friend!
Nice! Might be time to upgrade from the S-Mic 2 S and the V-Mic D3 Pro. Am looking at a Sennheiser MKE600, will the S-Mic 3 have a battery to allow it to work directly with mirrorless cameras?
The MKE600 would be very long and awkward to use with a mirrorless camera, why not keep on using the V Mic D3 Pro? Unless you're massively rigging up the mirrorless camera, in that case I'd suggest using say a MixPre3 or Zoom F3 as part of your camera build, and then you can easily use your S-Mic2S (or the new S-Mic3S) with your camera build.

Waiting to see this side by side with MKH416, MKH50, Schoeps CMC641/5u.
Spoiler alert, MKH 416 for the win. You can’t beat it. 😎

That deity DXTX looks smooth
Is the sound quality the same or better from the previous mic’s? The advertising seems to indicate it’s the same.
Can we count on the stress test, as in case of S-mic 2?
did you fly all the way to portofino for your promo video, nice
Great microphone. I still use my Deity D4 duo
Me “two!” Great little mic with versatility. Sometimes split audio channels with a wireless mic recording to right channel.
What about the S-Mic 3H & 3C?
I have a studio but do get a lot of street noise in. Is the S-Mic 3S still the better choice than the S-Mic 3?

No. The S-Mic 3 and 3S runs in phantom power only.

I can’t find any product reviews on this mic yet?
Units are still shipping out to reviewers who requested press units. We aren't a brand to rush folks or push embargo date drops.
Yes, and i love my s2! But it is time for a "s" micro! 😉
is the narration AI?
No. It's former Deity Steve doing the VO
Tropical Catalina island
Andrew did not approve our trip to Cuba 🤣
Yup, the bay shot gave it away. And, the golf cart shot supported it. 👍😂😂😂
