- Immunoelectrophoresis refers to precipitin formation in agar, under the influence of an electric field.
The process is a combination of both immuno-diffusion and electrophoresis.
So first the antigen mixture is subjected to electrophoresis, which separates the mixture into its component parts.
and then in the second part these components are tested by double immuno-diffusion.
To carry out the process of electrophoresis, Ag mixture is placed into wells made in gel.
For the remaining half process, A trough is cut in the same gel, into which antibodies are added.
Both antibodies and antigen diffuse laterally to meet each other,
This results in lattice formation and hence precipitation.
This way the nature or the identity of the antigens is determined.
Nicely explained
clean and crystal clear explanation 🎉
Glad you think so!
