UPDATE***. Damian reached out to me and is going to send me a replacement unit. As I suspected he is just overwhelmed with production etc. As I stated I still 100% recommend this product and it's 100x better than factory output.
Hope I hear back too. Exact same issue as you, except it for as my drivers side outside low beam halo. Watched the install video while installing, then again numerous times to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, tried every flipped plug configuration, the middle halo (same low beam) works, still no go on the outboard low beam halo. Search on Corvetteforum for lights, read threads for possible troubleshooting ideas, anything to give me another fix suggestion, nothing. Took detailed pics, posted on Facebook (as requested) and get blasted for “not watching video” and lectured on polarity lol. Last post simple reply to appease, “flipped plug, still no halo.” No more replies. Passenger side, no problems, good to go. Like you, I hope DK makes this right. Awesome supporting someone doing this out of his house bc he’s passionate, just don’t think every customer is an idiot. PS, I’ve enjoyed your vids also.
@Jeffrey Boyd If you have an issue, it will get resolved. I deal with literally 20+ emails a day, with a vast variety of questions and people claiming this or that. Its tough when the video shows how to install but people dont follow the video, then flood me with emails for tech support. Then there are people who claim they are missing parts, but then opened the box upside down. Then there are the folks who dont read the paperwork. I try very hard to keep up. My phone number is on the website. This "radio silence" fucking bs comment this dude made is ridiculous. I am one guy here...dealing with a lot of people and issues, while trying to keep ahead of the curve. If you dont have a response to an email, send again!!!!
Was part of the first batch for these and have been running for about a year. They are the best looking headlights on the market, IMO. I had a failing halo and went through warrantied early iteration brackets on both sides due to failing joints, but Damien has made it right every time.
Love the lights..had a bracket failure as well as first generation..Damian took care of it and shipped replacements as warranty...just waiting for delivery..best lights for c5 imo
Why do the high beam light up below the low beam on the garage door? And when you were blasting the houses across the street, the high beams only added more light where the low beams were already covering. That is not how headlights are supposed to function. Either these high beams are oriented incorrectly and you now just have two different brightness levels of low beam, or the low beams glare and blind drivers just as much as the "highs" that are all throwing light in the same place.
Going through the same process upgrading the lights myself. I started with these lights and will be getting the rest later. I will confirm that they are a huge difference from stock and a moderate difficulty to install. For the wire coming out of the fuse box I made a notch below the cover that sticks out over the post with the 3-wires on the exterior side between the box and the fender. I didn't see it when you were holding up your cover, but it might have just been the angle. (I have a 2003.) All that jumper does is keep the low-beams on when you turn on the hi-beams. If you install it, it keeps the ground lit up right in front of the car as the hi-beams are aimed farther out, but it's mostly cosmetic and not necessary for the lights to work. KnightDriveTV does have a resistor that is optional when ordering to fix the issue where they only close from high beams. I can confirm it works. Someone already pointed out the video about the bump stops. I held on ordering for those too and was disappointed when the old brackets came instead. My lights shipped two days before that video was posted. The old brackets definitely require more patience. I guess a slightly more difficult install is better than an easy one that fails. 🤷 I will add that he is very transparent about the business and the development process of his products. I hope he gets the bezel production issue worked out. It will add that final bit of polish to these lights.
I have these on my C5. I have had mine since Sept. of last year. They have been chilling in the box. Kept pushing off when I was going to get them on. Finally put them on about a month ago. And truly it is a night and day difference when driving at night. Now I certainly took my time doing this and took me about 4-4.5 hours with breaks in between and what not (it was about 90 something outside and I was burning up and hydrating). I love these lights and Damian is a stand up guy and stands by his product. So for everyone that has an "issue" of any sort with their lights that they get from him, just shoot him a message and be patient. He will get back with you! :) Also something I have found out that when I am driving around and I reach my destination, if I throw the car in park and THEN turn my lights off like normal, they go down perfectly fine. But as soon as you cut the vehicle off, you can't do that. You'll have to switch to high beams and then turn the lights off. But other than that Solid video man!
These are my second favorite to the sun guns. There’s literally one photo on the internet of the non pop up sun guns and they make the C5 look like a Pagani. Pretty sure it’s custom.
I got the rounds on order. Good to hear Damian sending you out another pod. It's crazy how people are so demanding, (not video author). If you're buying these you just understand the situation this is not a big company. You're buying in on new product and new company. Always gonna be some hiccups. My biggest concern is light beam output. Do they have a good cutoff and a wide pattern. That is going to really be the test. I don't see too many people properly documenting light output. It's not how bright but where the light goes
This is the question I asked Damian, and the response was somewhat lacking. He sent me a cutoff shot right up against a garage door and 2 shots down a dark road with no cutoff visible. I'm assuming it's not great, honestly. PM me your email address and I can forward you the shots, if you're interested.
You need to flip the driver side high beam power plug to get that halo functioning, I had the same issue on the passenger side with my low beam halos. (I just read that you already tried this) Take a look at the install video at around the 11:15 mark. ruclips.net/video/P9DEVMLQEVs/видео.html I hope this helps you out. I found a few other quirks using these headlights. If you keep your fog lights switch on you should have enough resistance to be able to turn off the headlights and have them flip down without having to go to high beams. Sometimes the engine has to be running when you turn off the lights and sometimes not. It's a little quirky. If you just turn on your parking lights then pull back to flash your high beams the headlights will pop up with just the halos on without having to turn on the low beams.
Interesting you say they are "weighty"...do they weigh more than the stock headlights? Not looking to add weight to my C5 Z06 whose whole ethos is lightweighting...
Tonight I was cleaning up the ones I removed. I would say the old ones were heavier. However, the small design of the knight drives have a good density to them for a small package.
Just ordered round versions even though the square ones r just as nice. I am so freaking pumped!!! Hoping for a smooth install otherwise I may have to bother someone to help me out lol. Thanks for the video brother
you stole my winter project!! haha... planning on fabricating it my self though with some of my own ideas added..... lets see how it goes .. looking great!
Your headlights will go down without turning on the brights if yer engine is running. But if u forget to put them down before u turn the engine off then you have to do the brights .
These KDs have been on my radar. I like the low rise buckets. LED tech is coming along nicely, and I run them as my brights for easy/instant flashing if needed to warn of cops etc. Here's the "BUT"... they just don't compare yet to the lumens of a good HID bulb. Having ran several setups over the years you meed Morimoto ballasts and to run a dedicated harness from the accessory bar or battery. At that point they become modern instant-on function! Something 98% of C5s with HIDs do NOT have because they're using crap 'corvettemods' ballasts and ACA kits or similar for hid. Never use that vendor, btw. But I'm still clutching to my RF / SLC low rise hid kit. Absolutely commanding light pattern and lumen.
Those lights look really cool. Much cheaper than morimoto for the C6. For him being pretty much a 1 man show, i would imagine its very hard to keep up with everything. Id give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
Clearly I have backed up everyone with these lights. These are all tested before being boxed. If for some reason this has just failed in transit, clearly I will replace it. I back up people who bought these and even sold the car to someone else.
Thanks for making a video on this. I discovered these lights a while back and plan on getting some as well. I think these are the best looking lights for the C5. Now... how about some concave Forgestar F14's for that bad boy? 😎
Mark, check out Damien's you tube channel video GMT 800 product update 08/22/22. It explains what went wrong with the stops that you wanted and why you got the metal stops.
I think the wire install at fuse box seems slightly mickey mouse and zip tie the relay to battery strap. I see lights are strong but doesn't sound like a good upgrade........just my opinion.
one of the things that makes car headlights different from motorcycle headlights is the light propagation. They assume motorcycles will turn the lights with the road , so the corners will be illuminated as the vehicle approaches, where a car headlight should throw a wide beam , lighting up the side of the road so things entering the field of vision from the side, like corners, or pedestrians, will be illuminated before they enter the direction of travel. I couldn't tell from this video, but if these lights only throw a bright beam pretty much only straight ahead , it might make the side , non illuminated part of the road difficult to see , like when you walk with a bright flashlight in the dark you can only see where your flashlight points, and everything else becomes too dark to register. I know when I drive a car in the forest, the trees are well lit up on the side of the road as I pass, and the light is not only just shining straight down the road. I would hope this product achieves the same effect, for safety's sake. I live in the city, so have no need for non stock lights, nor have I the desire to explain to the law, perhaps after an accident, why I am running lights that are not DOT approved. I think a square light clashes with the rounded body lines, but everyone has different tastes.
I've been going back and forth between getting these, or the ACA's. These are obviously a lot "cooler" ... but I am glad I saw this before making a purchase. I know you are trying very hard not to bash the guy that builds them ... but you can't really excuse how he handled something as simple as a bad pod light. Not to mention, the sum of all things ... the older design getting shipped, bad wiring diagrams, lots of use of the term "wonky" ... all adds up. As someone who is partially disabled, I either have to pay someone to do the work on my car, or I have to spend a LOT more time to do it myself. In either case, I need a product that works, and if something is wrong, I want to buy from someone who stands behind what they sell.
perhaps the guy is running a one man deal, so has to prioritize replies in some way. It is not uncommon with specialty products to have to work with the supplier to get what you need . I also know it is common for salespeople to kick people off their phone if the conversation is not making them money, right now, because they only have a limited time to generate income. but a manufacturer has different responsibilities, and should consider every conversation or inquiry as potentially productive towards future income. In my book , they need to be very responsible to inquiries , so people can trust the product as not being from some kind of sketchy outfit that doesn't care, or isn't sufficiently funded to handle customer service. I always figure if I am getting unsatisfactory responses before I send them money, they won't all of a sudden become highly motivated to help me once they have my cash.
I purchased this same kit. The company owner is mostly a one man team with very few people under him who is usually extremely busy producing just this one kit. That being said, he returned my online question and called me back within 24hrs. He definitely takes the time to follow up with anyone having issues and seems to want to help you any way he can. It is like a start up business in its infancy. He will definitely take the time to make sure everything is going well if he wants it to be successful for putting out more products in the future to make more money. It's NOT some overseas owned flybynight defunct tomorrow business that doesn't care.
You seem to be making apologies for the bad prroduct you received, hoping you get a swaped unit, asap?...as you should. However I hear a lot of hesitation in your analysis. I know you did buttttt did you flip your wire connectors on the malfunctioning light. Not only flip, but swap. Mine did not work correctly until I swapped the connectors and flipped them too.
The polarity issue creates a different effect with the light, and out of the box should have the same effect on both lights. GM was inconsistent on how they wired the polarity between cars, but I don't think they were inconsistent between the lights on individual cars.
