I'm afraid the long jump pit has to be extended for this young man. At 0.33 he was way beyond that mark because he realised he was going to smash his pretty face on the hard floor and took evasive action. For a 19 year old, I'll take a bow. Incredible.

But the fall back mark looks was around the same mark as his feet, so not really a difference. The fact that he's 19 though, very promising considering prime years are 25-30. Pedrosa had official blocking the wind gage and was rightfully dq'd for record. These Cuban jumpers are on the brink! WR only improved 2 inches since 1968.

@@bestplanet8440 @oobaka1967 Except the whole point of track and field is overcoming the obstacle in front of you. No...seriously. It's to see which human is the better athlete by seeing who can jump over a higher wall (HJ/PV), who can throw weapon furthest (Discus, Shot, Jav), who can best clear a chasm (LJ) etc., etc..
With that said, the environmental aspects are also part of the challenge. Hence why we have indoors/outdoors/road race/cross country. The steeple chase has two big hurdles and a water pit. Cross country has mud, trees...outdoor Track 'n Field has wind, rain, uncontrolled (natural) temperature/climate. These things make athletics interesting. Indoors is for ideal competition...which produces results that are not as impressive as outdoor results for the exact reasons Im mentioning.
You could run seriously fast times or jump distances indoors, but no-one is gonna really "recognise" it as a true record unless it's done outdoors.
You may have realised I mention weapon & chasm earlier. Track n Field was born out of real world challenges (faced in war times). The board in long jump exist because if someone in the field was to jump across a gap, you want to know who can jump the largest gap, and a gap has a take off point (otherwise you'll fall to your doom), hence why the board exists and jumpers dont just jump willy-nilly.
There are a myraid of ridiculous requests for changes...soon enough people will start requesting participation trophies..

We cubans also think he is going to break the 9 m barrier, Pedroso got close with 8.96 m in Sestriere (1995) and the IAAF didn't give him the WR for wind measuring anomalies, allegedly. People in the comments: omg! We may have to extend the sand pit!
Or we could just move back the board... most high schools have multiple boards anyway

People, they don't need to extend the pit, they just make you jump from further back. The runway is huge, they have plenty of room to go back. Head to a major track meet sometime, they're fun. Go Ducks! Eugene, Oregon is Tracktown USA!

He just broke the WR. He puts his hand back because of the size of the PIT! His feet land 10cm at least in front of his hand!!!!

His coach said he's jumped 9.03m in practice/training.... with little to no wind..🤔🤔 It's certainly not outta the realm of possibility, but sometimes these Coaches/Trainers can be a little "crafty" with TIMES or Measurements during practice. Lol
But with that said, do I believe a jumper has EVER jumped OVER 9m in a Training session..?? Absolutely. Can't imagine with all the jumps, throughout time, that all the greatest L.J.ers have taken during serious training... that it hasn't been done. Surely one of the Greats have flew past that magic 9m mark??

    What a shame!
That acceleration was perfect, midair he realized the closeness of the pit, he put brakes, what a shame!
