  • One last skill mastery guide, we have combat! A lot of the other masteries add buffs or new way to do existing things, but combat chooses to add it's own new system, trinkets. Using different trinkets can either increase your combat potential, or earn you some money!

    0:22 - The Mini-Forge
    1:03 - Finding Trinkets

The frog is probably my favourite trinket, if only for the amusement factor. He's cute just running behind you, and there's nothing funnier than lil hungry frog boi casually swallowing a Royal Serpent whole.
Also, idk, I like the implication of how the frog eats enemies. No drops, no slayer goal progression, no combat XP. By all accounts, the enemy did not die. The enemy is just removed from existence. Cast into the void, never to return. I have the most terrifying creature who wields the most horrifying of fates equipped to my trinket slot, and he's my pal. Priceless.

A fast magick quiver is a great defensive trincket. I can run around the dangerous skull caverns without fighting all those annoying and fast monsters, instead focussing on blowing rocks up, because the quiver pushes them away. It makes it super easy to dodge them and bomb everything.

As a proud owner of the perfect magic quiver I can attest to the fact it cost several hundred iridium bars to do it.

I think I'm just an insanely lucky person because it only took me 2 rolls to get mine... and then I immediately stopped using it because I was cinder shard hunting and it kept killing the Magma Sprites and Sparkers while they were too far away from me to get their drops. I don't like the ice rod either because enemies end up getting frozen out of bounds too much.
Now I just roll with the basilisk paw because a lack of debuffs is always nice and I don't need extra money or help healing.

I know why the spiders have a lower chance.
Spiders are the most valuable enemy type to fight. With burglars ring, monster musk, parrot, an artful hammer and acrobat, you can plow through a huge number of the things and get valuable resources like galaxy souls and pressure nozzles, bars and ore, gold, enough void essence to make its own income stream and other miscellaneous resources.
Lowering their drop rate for trinkets and golden mystery boxes keeps them from being overwhelmingly profitable. Right now it's still beaten by Legend II fishing and high end skull caverns dives.

I really like the fairy box. I don't need to carry food anymore basically.
    Parrot egg is great money
I don't like the ice rod or quiver as they don't do much for damage or helping me kill things.
The frog's no drop is lame, tho it does help out thinning out herds of enemies a little bit.
Spur, I just use coffee, it doesn't stack multiple kills I don't think so it's not that great imo.
Basilisk paw, I never found negative debuffs much of a pain, so very niche.

If you've got more real-life time than spare iridium bars, you can put the anvil next to your bed and restart the day after a bad trinket roll. There's not a table for them like there is for geode drops; it really is just random at the time of re-rolling. I'm not sure how legacy-RNG would affect this, but I have tested it a little bit without that feature turned on.

I think the basilisk paw is being underrated. With the paw equipped you're free to ignore immunity and just equip the best armor pieces you can find. Without the paw you either have to use food or a ring slot to boost immunity to 100%, or just accept that occasionally you'll be hit with debuffs. Not so bad when it is just slimes, devastating when you get nauseated or your armor score dropped into the negative.

    • @slwrabbits

I quite liked the perfect magic quiver, it knocks enemies back and triggers the burglar and napalm rings as well so you can mine in peace. Once I swapped away from a monster focused build I put the fairy in and it’s pretty good.
I haven’t tried parrot egg much it didn’t really drop enough gold to care by the time I got one. My current save is 25% profit margin though so I think parrot will be a lot stronger. Also worth noting that you can’t reforge the parrot egg to get a better vers unless you also hit the gold milestone associated with it.

I believe the spiders have a REDUCED chance for trinkets for balance, because you can find SO MANY of them on floors 50-69 of the dangerous mines. All you need is monster musk. Also, combine that with a max lvl parrot, and you have a decent combat money maker, preferably using a hammer with special ability cooldown. You can make anywhere between 50k-100k in gold drops, plus the items. I usually get 2-6 trinkets on a full day

Huh, I had not made the connection that the frog egg and fairy box were trinkets. I found my first trinket, the quiver, just running around in the volcano. I like using it, as it knocks back mobs (most of the time) enough to give you a chance to mine for ores and save a little time. I love using it on the below-25 floors of the town mine, though. The quiver alone one-shots mobs, which is great when you're Combat 10+ and there to gather bug meat and sap. Some bombs for the rocks, and it's a very efficient and productive time.

I feel like Trinkets in their current state are a huge wasted opportunity: There's not nearly enough of them and they're unlocked so late. I'd have rather seens omething like... The Trinket slot being an unlock at Combat 10, with another suite of Trinkets available to craft or purchase, and Mastery unlocking the droppable Trinkets. Also aside from all of that the Anvil costs are just insulting.

I think you glanced way too quickly on the innate enchantments on weapons. They can be changed at the forge until you get what you want, and can make some weapons legitimately better than the infinity weapons. The dragontooth weapons specifically, once they have a good innate enchantment, can outpace their infinity weapon equivalent. And the iridium needle and dwarven weapons can be brought very close in power to the infinity weapons for a much less steep investment. If you go for a crit build for example, the possibility of having + 75% crit power outside of normal forging makes basically any dragontooth or dwarven sword or dagger as good or even better than the infinity daggers or swords.
Plus, some of the innate enchantments straight up do things no other weapon can (Any weapon with slime gatherer can help you greatly with slime hutches for example), without sacrificing forging or regular enchantment slots.
