Impossible for a multi-level basement renovation to be designed, applied for, investigated, approved, and built in a few months. You, and many others commenting here, reached a conclusion based on poor listening. Have you considered giving cotton buds a crack to clean your ears?
I can build a giant basement and inconvenience my neighbors but I'll drag my feet and be an absolute demon to anybody else who tries to do the same. The hypocrisy is staggering. Good on this lady I hope she never stops being a thorn in that selfish idiots side.
Judging by the current house she has built in it's place (visible on Street View) she gave them many months, possibly years of noise and disruption that wouldn't have been necessary had he not attempted (and failed) to bully her.
In my opinion Zipporah, wars was right 100% Actually In this case the guy next door was the Poisson bacterium. Despite the Money she had her guts & Balls and years of fighting the city consuls was very impressive . Bravo!!!
And yet she kept getting planning permission denied so her house was never any good to her so how clever was she. She is the one that wants something so she should bend over backwards to make sure her neighbours don't object. And painting your house like she did is not the way to get your neighbours on side she was really stupid
I have worked on the building industry all of my life and one thing that I have always despised is that allot of people want theirs but don't want anyone else to have the right to the same. People are so pompous that they think everyone should be required to do as they think. Planning commissions were formed to regulate continuity from outlandish things but have become a way for people to get power over the rights of others. This is a problem worldwide. In the US we have neighborhood covenants run by a council that is formed to keep a certain standard of living in that area. But they end up being taken over by people who are draconian with their interpretation of the rules. They are out every day looking for anything they don't like and find a way to use the rules to force people to do what they think your property should look like. And like the tyrants that they are anything they don't like will be punished as an infraction. They will make sure that you can't have anything better than them. I lived in a neighborhood that had a rule that you could not farm your lot. When I planted 4 tomato plants in my flower bed I was told I had to remove them by the home owners association because it was considered farming. I sold my house and purchased a neighborhood with no HOA. Now I get neighbors who tell me they don't like the type of flowers I planted and they don't like the fact that I have a camper. Everything looks great but they just want to complain. I wish missarible or envious people would just keep it to themselves instead of spreading their misery around.
This lady might not be instantly likeable, but I fully support her. I would go mad if a bunch of hypocritical arses were telling me what I may or may not do. Infuriating!!
Digging into the foundations of old houses like that can't be good for their foundations (old London buildings have a tenancy to move on their foundations) and it's a huge nuisance for neighbourhoods. None of them should be allowed to do it.

@@KayDejaVu good, shame it cost hundreds of thousands of pound for the tax payers. Can’t believe how many court cases, objections there were. Absolute joke! He should have had to pay that back.
Reminds me of the outskirts of a small city I used to work in. There was a man who had a small auto wrecking yard there for over 40 years, that was originally surrounded by farm land. The city expanded over the years and a fancy neighborhood was built next to the wrecking yard. The neighbors complained to the city about the wrecking yard and stated that the piece of property the wrecking yard was on was zoned for agriculture. So, the guy that owned the wrecking yard cleaned up the property and put in a pig farm.

I loved how Zipporah was cool yet determined to exert and protect her rights. An opponent like that is not easily defeated.
