Twisted newspaper into long ropes is tops for handling cacti. Make a rope, wrap it around the cactus and handle it with also grabbing the roots for direction with ease 😊
Hi Celeste, your cacti garden looks fab! I really like what you’ve created. Make sure to give us a look at the finished garden. I have one question for you though, given that you mentioned how hot that part of the garden gets, will the black rock (black absorbs heat) cause the plants to dry out extremely quickly and also cause stress for the plants?
Hi! That's a great question! I haven't had a problem with plants because of heat from the rock. Our hottest days can get a little bit over 100 degrees but that would be rare. In the front and back yard I have some tender succulents that have been ok with the black rock. It might be an issue for an area that gets hotter than my yard though.
I saw there was a water drain pipe of some kind coming from your house through one of the screened vent openings. Will that put a lot of water there on your cactus or do you plan to add to the pipe to divert the water more to the side?
Hi. That is an old pvc pipe that the person who owned the house before me threaded under the house. It doesn't carry any water as it was cut out of the water supply 2 years ago.
Mission to Mars Mangave is a bit more cold sensitive with recommendations to bring it under protection at 50 degrees. I have had them do just fine with temps down to 35 degrees. Some mangave can handle between 20 and 30 degrees so it is possible to grow them in even colder climates.

Great suggestion! I've been using long kitchen tongs 🤣🤣
Love this! Sure wish I would have found it BEFORE I made my cactus garden. Now I realize everything I did wrong, but hard to redo!
Thank you so much! I'm sure it is beautiful and so long as you love it....it is perfect!
