    Interesting to see and hear what you do to control bugs. This summer I had a bad case of mealybugs on my purplish Aeonium and considered spraying with something stronger but ended up just hosing them off with water a few times. This doesn’t remove the mealies but most of the sugary stickiness goes away. As soon as the weather turned colder the bugs disappeared and the plants recovered. I am wondering if beneficial insects helped or if the plants can handle it if the conditions (lower temp) are better? Anyway, I’m just glad the option of not spraying worked since I try to minimize chemicals in my environment.

    • @ParadiseSucculents
      @ParadiseSucculents 18 дней назад

      @xxrainwingdragonxx5988 I experienced something similar. I noticed when the weather got cooler and the plants came out of dormancy they seemed to fight off mealies with more success. They are definitely more susceptible to damage during dormancy it seems. This year was super bad for my garden. I lost a lot of good plants before I decided to start using chemicals. It is always a tough decision. Glad to hear yours are recovering!

      Thanks so much for your kind words! Rain is a huge challenge. The first year I planted the yard we had record breaking rain in CA. It was so sad to watch some plants die...I totally understand! The mounds have helped and the volcanic rock mixed in has helped with drainage. I still lose some stuff but not as bad as year one.

      @ParadiseSucculents 5 месяцев назад

      @deebeststamping8661 Absolutely! It depends on what you are looking for though and if you want to visit in person, and what type of budget. For example, one of my favorites is Ortegas in Watsonville for landscape plants at a low cost. They have some specimen plants but tend to stick to the more generally available. Angelvy Nursery is also a great place to visit in Morgan Hill if you want specialty plants. Poots Nursery in Ripon is a must see for specialty plants. For specific types I can't find locally I usually try etsy. Good deals can also be found on Facebook marketplace, especially for older/larger landscape plants. If the above doesn't cover what you are looking for, please let me know, and hopefully I can recommend more sources.

    Do you have any suggestions for choosing between rooting hormone or cinnamon?

    • @ParadiseSucculents
      @ParadiseSucculents 5 месяцев назад

      Rooting hormone is great for plants that need an extra boost to grow roots. Most rotting hormone mixes also have anti-microbial properties as well. Cinnamon is similar in that it has anti-microbial but doesn't contain actual hormones but rather hormone like properties. I use cinnamon for most plants that root easily but when I know the cutting will likely take a long time I use rooting hormone. Some Aeoniums, for example, are more difficult to root than others. A lot of Aeonium collectors attribute this to hybrids being released before they are truly "stable" as a variety.
