It healed and I continued playing soccer through high school with no issues. However, after high school I got into weightlifting and noticed within a year or so into that journey that my collarbone was definitely affecting me a bit. It fused just a little bit crooked and has caused some weakness and muscle atrophy in my left shoulder and pec. I’m 29 now and am still big into weightlifting/bodybuilding but have continued to deal with that issue. In hindsight, I do wish I had gotten it surgically fixed when I was 15 but there’s no way I could have known I would get so addicted to the gym and ironically that’s about the only pursuit it would have an affect on. Yeah. The body is amazing that is for sure. And using herbal remedies and such can help a ton. My gf husband broke his back and it was really bad but they could not do surgery due to the location of the break. The prognosis was not very good and (his wife called me and asked what could they do if anything) and he used herbs and essential oils; (and massage as soon as he could); and his healing was remarkable. The doctors were absolutely stunned. I do not think nutrition and herbs and things of this nature get nearly enough attention. I have seen them do amazing things. My daughter had a complete rupture of her hamstring (complete tendon avulsion) and it was completely reattached in 3 days with natural remedies; massage, tons of raw milk and basically a meat diet. We continued that for weeks and she has no issues with it to this day. That was 10 years ago. She was/is a dancer and was able to dance on it in about a month; and never had any pain or issues. Hi, was one of you give me some advice… Went to the doctors for a lump on my shoulder on the side of my deltoid… I’ve had no pain no issues but still the lawn for me so I got an x-ray… Found out that what I believe to be my collarbone is broken and has been for over a decade but I have no pain and no issues or mobility… Have any thoughts? The doctors were very curious as to how that was in there sending me to a specialist… It’s been fine until today when they did certain movements and put pressure on it… It’s in pain but not nearly what I’ve read it should be. Mobility still fine I would really like to hear your thoughts… I have the x-ray but don’t know how to post it.
Really good and informative video that people will find when using the internet to research their broken clavicle. I broke my collar bone left shoulder when I was around 11-13 yrs old maybe younger but I'm 42 now and my left arm is shorter now and the range of motion is limited , hurts when I sleep on left side and again certain movements has been this way for years I had a shot of cortisone I believe it was 4-5 years ago and still have trouble with it, been unemployed for sometime now with other issues, no insurance or anything, any suggestions on what I should do or could do,, thanks..
This was an awesome video thanks doctors .. i broke my collar bone 2 weeks ago an i was worried how its going to pop out at times ... i also thing i have an overlap i dont know how long it is ... can it hinder me from sports if it heals with an overlap??
I have a slight overlap too from break in Nov 23. I'm pretty sure I will not be able to play badminton at the same level or similar level 😢 but you will back to more or less normal apart from overhead sporting movements
I think the traditional 2 cm of overlap is way out of date. Mine is not overlapping but the ends are side by side with my shoulder lower. I was given a sling not surgery and at 5 weeks have daily shoulder pain. I am getting a second opinion this week and want surgery to get my shoulder back in the right position. Be aware even with less than 2 cm of shortening you are highly likely to have biomechanical problems with your shoulder.
I know what you mean. I´m in a slightly different situation, in that I had surgery a week after the accident. I had 1.5cm of overlap, but I´m fairly certain without surgery I would have kept feeling that daily "burning" pain for a relatively long time afterwards, since the bone can take months and months to fully heal. I had conflicting advice and I had a much tougher decision since my own father who is a radiologist told me that I should go with the conservative approach and not have surgery. The orthopaedic surgeon told me I had something like a 30% chance of bone union without surgery so in the end I chose to have it, and I´m glad I did since i can´t imagine having that pain for potentially months afterwards. I´m now two months post-op and no longer have any pain, just numbness in the area and currently still doing physio.

@@aeroraj No complications thus far. I am 3 months post surgery. I do experience random bouts of numbness and minor pain but very brief and not constant. I´m no Doctor but if you are not experiencing pain, its probably fine not to have surgery. That said, I would see a Doctor soon and maybe get an X-ray to see if the bone is healing. If you didn´t have any major displacement you will probably be fine. Good luck.
Hello, My name is Kelly Rollinson. I hope all is great, I had an accident back in 2016 and had some x-rays turned out to have a broken collar bone, I hadn't done any surgeries due to personal issues but from 2020 till this stage 2022 at the age of 22years I have been experiencing much pain, numbness, pain at the back, there is no that I can do all I can do is to get used to the pain whenever I talk to my mom she's just giving me hope that everything will work out soon, I totally understand but I'm the one who is in pain. Kindly advise me if there is any prescription medication that I can take because whenever it's cold I'm completely numb I can't feel my hand, head, lips, and leg well to feel better I massage using my right hand. I broke my collar bone after a car accident about 6 years ago. I never went back to the doctor after my initial hospital visit. I was given a sling and didn't use it as long as I was supposed to and continued to carry my daughter who was 9 months old at the time. I actually dropped her once because my arm gave out. Luckily I was putting her to bed and she fell into her crib.. However now, 6 years later, I continue to have pain in my left shoulder and my sciatica is REALLY bad now on the left side too. Is that related? (Sciatica and previous unhealed collar bone?) Makes me wonder. My pain is getting worse and worse with age. I can't even sleep on my left side because it's too painful in the mornings if I do. I wonder if I should go to a doctor to get it looked at. I'm scared of surgery. But it's always back within a couple hours or the next day.

These doctors I swear... I had my left side collar bone fixed with A plate and 6 screws 7 months ago and it healed perfect and was great. I now broke the right side and I have doctors like you telling me what your gonna fix and what you aren’t... you aren’t the one who will be in pin or risk of improper healing. Both are overlapped now I’m arguing with this doctor as my skin has a bone popping up into the skin, and is pinching the nerve and or muscle when I take a big bite. Why don’t you do what patients ask instead of your high and mighty opinion. Y’all play god to often I get your experts but y’all sound scared to operate or fix people.
I’m also a thin guy and my skin healed perfectly within 2 weeks. Don’t let these doctors bullcrap you. Go see someone else if they try to push you off if your collar bone is in pieces and or over lapped.
This type of surgery is very risky. There are so many nerves and blood vessels and major stuff so close to the clavicle that the risks of clavicle surgery are much greater than others so many like a more conservative approach. My gf is a surgical tech and works at a level one trauma hospital and they have some excellent surgeons. She said they rarely do a clavicle surgery since it is that risky. The need has to be very great for them to even consider it. The risks are more serious than other surgeries.

How are you now
Really good and informative video that people will find when using the internet to research their broken clavicle.
One question: you guys didn't mention the treatment approach for fractures of the lateral third of the clavicle? This is what I have and have ended up needing surgery. Please could you do a short clip on this?
lateral clavicle fractures are another breed. Many are treated non-operatively. Many of these fractures will not heal.., but will not hurt.
@@williamhaney9712 have u went for surgery?
This was an awesome video thanks doctors .. i broke my collar bone 2 weeks ago an i was worried how its going to pop out at times ... i also thing i have an overlap i dont know how long it is ... can it hinder me from sports if it heals with an overlap??
I have a slight overlap too from break in Nov 23.
I'm pretty sure I will not be able to play badminton at the same level or similar level 😢 but you will back to more or less normal apart from overhead sporting movements
Sir how can its possible that afre surgery and fixing plate.bone dont gets fixed? ..what are the chances ? For this ...
@@Romans8-9 I got left clavicle fracture 50days ago I m 30 yr I used sling and 8 but not yet healed and also no pain in my case should I go for surgery, any complications post surgery?
@@aeroraj No complications thus far. I am 3 months post surgery. I do experience random bouts of numbness and minor pain but very brief and not constant. I´m no Doctor but if you are not experiencing pain, its probably fine not to have surgery. That said, I would see a Doctor soon and maybe get an X-ray to see if the bone is healing. If you didn´t have any major displacement you will probably be fine. Good luck.
@@aeroraj how u cure it finally bro?
Is a figure 8 brace and an arm sling suitable together for support and non surgical realignment?
Hello,
My name is Kelly Rollinson.
I hope there is any treatment to release the pain that I'm able to bare for it rest of my life

I broke mine this month from a atv and man falling on me lol
I had to have surgery because it broke right in the middle and the two pieces were so far apart they would never heal. I'm a little over two week post surgery and doing good. I start therapy this week but I'm doing a lot already.
Thanks this helped a lot.
I broke my clavicle bone 🦴 two years ago nd it still stick out should I get surgery
What is your opinion on a non union after having it plated for 2 years, had to have plate removed last week as it broke, now waiting for 2 weeks to see consultant again as he thinks there was an infection which stopped the healing.. How can I fix my right collarbone
I'm a 51 year old man who broke 3/22/2020, my non dominant clavicle (left). I had surgery and everything is going well. Before the surgery I had a lot of pain. Now I'm in a sling all night and when I go out. Pain is minimal.

Dr. do i have to keep the arm still to the bone to heal?
I broke my left clavicule 4 weeks ago and i've been using the figure of 8 since.
Now i think the bones are on the right position and have no much pain but i still feel them moving. Do i have to really have to keep my arm immobile so the bones can fuse or they will fuse anyway?
Thanks
@J K youd be surprised m8 normally the bones just heal i got a sling so the bones have a chance to realign after a week or 5 it doesnt really matter anymore. Obviously dont go around playing football be carefull but generally you can move your arm
Great video !
Thanks !!

What about z fracture, with nerve close by. The z is pushing up and down.
I have a question? So I watched this video and I’ll say this I awhile back I got on the monkey bars and I feel off because it hurt when I fully extended my arm so then I noticed it would hurt when I would extend it and it was like this for awhile maybe a year then it just started hurting bad lately and I went in I got a mri done and I have a clavicle fracture 1.2cm and what’s crazy is I don’t remember falling or injuring it? I have diabetes so I probably feel and didn’t feel it so since it’s been hurt for who knows how long? And it ain’t getting better and it’s actually hurting me more now would it be better for surgery? I’m 47 years old so I just need to get back to work and I can’t right now cause I’m in pain?
what about closed reduction
I suppose you would be the people to ask my son age of 4 just broke his yesterday can I ask for some advice he fell down 5 steps on to his shoulder it looks like a bent finger
It's in just a sling at the moment assuming that would be the best possible option
But this pain is even harder to deal with. I can't even work because it's too painful to stand for more that a couple hours at a time. I try excersizes and stretching which gives momentary relief. But it's always back within a couple hours or the next day.
you should have someone take a look at you to see if the fracture healed or not and determine what the cause of pain is.
May i ask you if you recovered from sciatica ? I had it too but i used a inverted table 10 min a day and healed in one month bsck to normal.
I had surgery 10 days ago. I have good movement and I know my limits with it. I had a plate screwed in. My doctor said to stay at home for 4 weeks. But I feel I'm ready to get back to work after 2 weeks. I'm a teacher. Do you recommend this, or should I wait another 2 weeks?

I broke my collarbone 2 weeks ago and currently wear a sling (no operation). I was wondering if an 8 brace is better when it comes to healing compared to just a sling. There isn't really much literature out there. Some say a sling is better while others say an 8 brace is better. I would really appreciate your opinion.

I broke my collarbone my third clavicle 4 years ago and I still have problems sleeping on my left side and movements I need to k ow if I should go for surgery on it or not as I'm wanting to lose weight as I used to have a figure before I done it but now I'm limited and restricted on movements as it hurts. Any answers will be much appreciated
What are the collar bone fracture symptoms? Is it maybe that you can't raise your arm or put it behind the back? Or when you try to move arm up, it looks like the shoulder is moving too much in up position while the good arm shoulder stays in place?
Me my bike is hits dog so that my right clavicle is broke.. So i do an x ray. Doctor issue is only arm sling. Its means the clavicle is heal without surgery..two weeks ago im not going satisfied my situation.

What about if there is tenting does that change things? Or will it eventually go down? (In a younger person)
I have this going on right now what was your result?
@@Back_Forty_Outdoors depends on how bad it was for you, my tenting was fairly pronounced and the bone rounded off and isn’t so noticeable now. One suggestion I have though is if your doctor is saying surgery (putting a plate in) is an option do it because I waited until it was too late and likely would have been better off.
