You could donate the Girl Scout uniform to your local Girl Scout Council, and they will add it to their historical collection!

I appreciate your vulnerability and honesty about feeling bad about getting rid of pieces that make you feel bad, a lot of us do and don’t’ speak about it!

Great video! I once was so frustrated with my pull-on sports bra that i took the scissors and cut it open to get it off my sweaty, sticky body after my workout! I also do much better with home work outs!

Getting rid of a dress that is physically painful to put on is totally legit. I once got stuck in my side zipped pinafore dress after wrenching my shoulder while wearing it. For a while I thought I might have to sleep in it, but luckily my flatmate came home unexpectedly and was able to unzip it for me. He was very embarrassed, I chose to wear front closing clothes the next day.

I had to cut myself out of a dress a couple years ago and I think it sort of traumatized me.

Really appreciate your honest and yet practical approach. And also appreciate how you address weight gain and being realistic with yourself. Bless you for your generosity too!

Having gone through fluctuations too, I really appreciate the Travelling Pants type clothes that magically fit comfortably through ups and downs.
The key seems to be matching my proportions to begin with (hip-waist ratio, that kind of thing), but also unsurprisingly some degree of stretch in the fabric. 1 to 2% stretch in denim makes a world of difference; in skirts and dresses as well. Buying or sewing, look for an extra inch or two at key body points for breathability, growth and sitting down, etc.
Painful saying goodbye to some of your lovely hardwon creations, but it’s nice to know you have images and memories of them, and now someone else can create some with them as well!

Ive lost 90 lbs and have been going through and donating quite a bit. Our food shelf in town has a clothing store attacked and it goes to low income people. So I feel good about it. But it feels good to move things out of the house. I'm very impressed by you. You move out things that others will love to wear and then maje new things that will make you happy.

I fluctuate between three sizes, and it is hard. I have a lot of issues with feeling good in my clothes. Getting rid of stuff is hard.

You said before that you use something to help you zip up back zips on dresses and I was wondering if you would ever tell us or show us what that is. I have trouble with back zips like you have trouble with side zips, and was curious if there was something I could get to help me zip up back zips. Also, I really love the folk wear pattern for Austrian dirndl. Might could work to replace the beautiful pink and green one. You make really stunning dresses.

Basically a cup hook screwed into the end of a stick for larger zippers or a lobster clasp on the end of a ribbon. With the latter, you clasp it on before putting on the dress then unclasp it once you’ve pulled it up. Those work with zipper pulls that have a hole. Not sure for dress zippers that are just like a small smooth oval.

I've always hated side zips too. Far too difficult to get in and out of even a well-fitting dress if it has a side zip.

    • @HaleyMarieVintage
      @HaleyMarieVintage  2 месяца назад +1

Agreed, and since I like negative ease on a dress for a dress to fit the way I want a side zip is almost impossible to get on.

It's interesting to me that you don't keep dresses you love in case you change sizes and can fit into them again. I have four plastic tubs of clothes that no longer fit me (so everything actually in my closet does fit me) but I feel like I might get into the smaller pieces again because I go up and down in size throughout the years. Maybe you feel like your present size is a healthier or more realistic size for you and don't want to go back to your former size? Feel free not to answer if this is too personal a question. I'm only asking because you mentioned feeling sad to give up some of the dresses, so I was wondering why you didn't just store them outside of your closet in case of changing back to a smaller size.
PS: I hate side zips too! Not only are they too acrobatic to do up myself, but I hate the way they never seem to lay perfectly flat against my side and are a bit lumpy. Super yuck.

Not too personal, the weight gain is a side effect of the medication I am on not a goal I want to hit. I don't think it is realistic to go back to the size I was in my early twenties, plus the women in my family that have stayed that size only achieve it through eating disorders. I also don't hold onto them because I don't have space to store them I live in too small of a place.

I am wondering are you gaining weight and going up a size every 6 months to reach a goal? It is hard to tell what a person's size is on a video. They say the camera puts 10 pounds on a person. I gained 40 pounds because I have breast cancer and the meds made me gain weight. I was never overweight in my life until now. I weigh about 150lbs and I am 5'1". I think people should be very carful when they want to take meds to change their hormones because it causes a lot of side effects that are not pleasant. I have a closet full of new clothes that I never wore and now I can't wear because they are too small. I bought clothes to wear to work but then I became ill and couldn't work. Because of those medications I gained a lot of weight now the clothes don't fit. Anyway, I get what you are talking about. Take care and by the way you look great.

Not a goal just a side effect of a medication I needed to be on, without it I don't know if I'd still be here. I'm about a size 8 now when I started my channel I was a size 2, gaining weight is tough no matter what but I find the practice of keeping clothing around that will likely never fit only serves to make me feel bad so I don't and have found I get a lot of peace out of it.

@@HaleyMarieVintage Size 8 is not big. It's a nice size. Size two is very tiny. You look lovely at the size you are. I was a size 8 but like I said, meds made me gain weight, like you though it was gain weight or maybe not survive cancer. I appreciate you channel. I look forward to watching your videos every week. I think it is great how you do the breakdown of supplies and labor at the end. You do such a marvelous job and I know it takes a lot of time and money. Thank you Haley, for all you do.

I was on an antidepressant before I discovered that I’m autistic and was in burnout. Only took it for about two months but RAPIDLY gained ~20lbs and several sizes. Still haven’t lost the weight but that’s ok. I’ve been having fun slowly building a wardrobe that I want, rather than what I think I need for people to see me a certain way. 💜
