I had a 1150GSA and two 1200GSA (first one caught fire), I then realised how big and expensive they were and now have a Tenere 700. Half the price, half the servicing costs and as much fun. I’m sure this bike will have its fan boys but I think BMW have got a bit giddy recently.
The looks are really growing on me. I respect that they tried something different. If they had done the same old thing, people would have been complaining about that too.
Awesome video! I really like that bike. You nailed it when you said " it's different " . It is but it is good. BMW went a courageous route with this. I think it will endure. Best!
First time I ever saw this I though it was a brave (and potentially ugly) choice. The more I see it, the more I like it. The looks have definitely grown on me to the point where I now really like it, in a world were most sports/adventure/etc bikes look fairly identical. A bit like when the new BMW M4 was introduced, everyone attacked the looks, but now I think its much better looking that the older models. In biking culture I guess its not good to be different (just look at any Harley meeting...trying to be different but ending up all the same).
@@revanslaceythe newer Porsche 911 matrix headlights also has a similar style star design (although a bit harder to notice as they inside the main headlight unit). Prob a bit safer what with the old biker issue of a single round headlight blending into other traffic/lights & harder to judge distance - leading to cars driving out into the path of the bike.
I remember when I was kid, everyone was trying to look different whether it be fashion, their bikes or cars modified. But now everyone wants to drive the same looking car or ride the same looking bike, bravo BMW for doing this because not everyone wants to look like a dummy.
Toaster, oven, microwave……. Eventually attitudes will change as they always have otherwise we’d be still riding our 80’s and 90’s bikes ……. So the old GSA1250 will look dated beside this beast pretty soon. Just traded my GSA1250 for a Triple Black 1300 ASA.
I still don't care for the looks but the blue and white color scheme looks much better than the red and brushed metal look of the debut. Honestly my biggest gripe is just how square the whole tank area design looks from a side profile perspective. My opinion doesn't mean much though since I cant afford this beast.
I thought my 2014 multistrada was ugly when I bought it. I didn’t buy it for looks (obviously). But Nothing has grown on me like that motorcycle. I think it looks fantastic now. I have no doubt this would do the same thing.
Awesome looking bit of kit. Can't help think that if bmw made a 900 boxer gs it would sell by the bucket load. If money was no object I'd 100% be adding one to the fleet
for that money just get pimped out old r80. You know its better and since it does not have nikasil lining on the cylinders it wont be disposable as well. Remember kids 1250 and 1300 are for posers to park @ Starbucks. They are not for adventure riding.
Chad: I am going to ride it like a sensible and mature customer. Last famous words, T-junction, tarmac, take left and pop up a wheelie, or two 😂 I can see the engineers in Munich disappointed by the riding style of the sensible and mature hooligan 😂
You kept emphasising how as a small rider you found it easy to manage and yet I don't recall you listing your height or inseam and it would've been helpful to see you sit on the bike when you was talking about it with it in shot and the camera on the tripod infront
I think it looks and sounds great and, just as with the previous model, owners will enjoy years of unpacking all the engineering goodness underpinning the bike. The R1250GSA seat height is actually 910 mm with the standard seat in the high position. I’m about your height and am comfortable with the seat in the lower position and can easily deal it in the high position, probably due in part to the uncanny balance of the GSA, notwithstanding the huge fuel load. I can’t wait to check out the new bike when it hits US showrooms next season. To state the obvious: Unless you need the 300-plus mile range, you can simply partially fill the tank to make it easier to get used to the bike.
I think if you are not a proficient rider, offroading with the 1300 GS(A) for us common folk means swtiching from asphalt to gravel (like shown in this video). Vast majority of the riders won't do the TET with these big bikes. What remains is tarmac and I think here is the actual strategy with the big GS: If you love crunching miles, take the GSA and play U-Haul on two wheels. If you stay within your contient, then take the GS. In both cases if you look for pure comfort take the variant with ASA and ACC. Two models, at least four distinct use cases. If you want to do the TET, go with the 900 GS.
