- osu! Is one of the most popular rhythm games of all time where you click circles to the beat. The game has recently turned 16 years old so how has such a simple game kept its relevance and more importantly not died in the process?

I had fun making this video, and really surfacing the positive side of this game. Looking more importantly at why osu! will never die.
osu is alive because of me, i am the last string holding it on, i am the glue keeping it together, i am the tape forcing it to not break, i am the friction that wont let it fall, i am the last pringle in the can keeping it from being thrown away, i am the last player alive keeping the round from ending, i am the final cookie in the jar.
Yeah same but for mania
Yeah same but for taiko
thank you saviour
Yeah same, but for mapping
🗣🙏
osu isnt dead because the content is community driven and gameplay is simple and fun.
thats all it takes for a game to never die.
Any games are never die until it's forgotten
0:10 i did not know that osu is older than 99% of it's playerbase
0:08*
Yeah it's kind of crazy, older than me by 1 year lol.
@@arynosuwait what you’re so young??!
@@fihesssurprises me too, i am 16 and i thought i was young 😭😭😭😭. They ain't lying when they say 99% of the playerbase are children,
well i am 16 but osu is stlii a little older than me, like 2 months
Osu is one of the most fair skill based "competetive"(you compete more against yourself than others really) games with an almost impossibly high skill ceiling. There arent that many things in gaming that can feel better than finally hitting a pattern or fcing a map. It wont die at least until that skill ceiling is hit. Its more likely for osu to die because of some trash copyright reasons than it to just stop being fun and popular. Its always going to be in the gray mainstream area because of copyright but i think its for the best because osu being on the pedestal like cs or dota would be very destructive to its community.
Osu is just addicting man. I foam at the mouth and start scratching my arm if i spend an extended period of time away.
I get an itch in my skull but I've gone cold turkey
This game made me find thousands of cool new songs that you most likely wouldn't find anywhere else xD

@@hatsumi_rou_ and also basically every other music related game
Osu alive, because 727
If I had to attribute osu! success to a single factor, it would be just how incredibly based peppy is and continues to be, despite all the growth the game has seen throughout the years. No matter what, this guy always puts the community and thus health of the game first. What an absolute legend.
the number 1 player is younger then the game
osu! mainstream is cool and all, but it also raises more scrunity to certain amount of people, especially with the current state of copyright songs. Featured artist is another thing that keeps the game alive (and a backup) in the event where major corpos and other artist starts blacklisting from posting their songs in osu! Though, it may cause a lot of uncertainity when it comes mapping in non-featured artist songs (like asking their perms before getting it ranked/loved)
osu! will probably never die. As long as there is interest people will be playing it. With Lazer the community doesn't have to rely on ppy and the team for keeping it up as the game is open source meaning the game code is freely available and the community can continue working on it. Only thing maybe would be website and hosting but other than that the game itself will live on. (I think part of the website was also open source not sure)
I can admit that peppy does read everything, he read a discussion post and the youtube comment after I had went to sleep and had responded to both of them and realized that I was the one in both of the posts
I posted the RUclips comment and then realized I could post on the feature req forum and forgot to delete the RUclips comment.
W peppy
You could have also mentioned the great api and how every thing has 3rd party tools discord bots and more. Also history being kept in osu is just epic and I haven't seen a game doing it the same as osu.
Bathbot, missanylizers and osekai are great examples for api stuff
thank you kafka for the goated video. Osu! is alive because of the rich game history and the entertainment it provides is one of a kind.
Firstly, user created beatmaps, they are limitless and experimental which made the game more interesting. Secondly, some players who gave their best to improve in the said beatmaps. It's a chain that still goes on to this day. Not to mention the social media and the popular trend songs in the game that makes it gain more popularity, either way it catches a lot of people's attentions.
We all know that the real reason why osu players can't quit is because they always hear "see you next time" when closing the game, Implying that there is always a next time. Even if it's years into the future, osu is a game that you can't simply quit.
"osu is 16 years old"
viprin: 😈😈😈
he copy songs?
“Osu! Is 16 years old”
HitomiChan:
I'd say its simply how many ways you can play it. you can play it causally or not-so-casually. dont like standard? play a different mode! play to improve or simply to vibe. since there is no "wrong" way to play the game, its not too hard for someone to find their niche
Osu is as old as me that's crazy how a game so simple can hold on for so long and also very amazing
this sums up why osu is osu so well i love this vid good job :3
"peppy cares about the community" has to be one of the funniest jokes ever as a non std player
Im little bit sad you've forgot about WubWoofWolf
As long as i'm breathing there will always be 67 hours of playtime per week
Just came back to osu after 3 years 🎉
based on my own way of viewing it, osu! is still alive probably because so many big streamers/youtubers have tried playing it and/or having made opinions on it in popular videos. osu! is a growing community and i doubt its going anywhere anytime soon
The biggest reason why it wont die in my opinion is that the game at its core will always be the same, only pp reworks and new maps give a "fresh" feeling as new content. No matter what you do, the old maps will always be there, so they can't kill the game by adding trash content unlike other multiplayer games. The only way i'm seeing them messing up is if they change the core mechanics or score submission in osu lazer but i highly doubt it since peppy is that one game dev we all dream of, putting in thousands of hours building the game with all our feedback.
Let's put it in a simple way. Peppy only coded the game. But it is directly driven by us, the community. He just has to focus on the technical parts of the game (which is still insanely hard yeah). Only we create the content by making hundreds of thousands of maps, hosting tournaments (besides owc) and all the other stuff. It's the perfect formula for a game imo. I hope lazer will live up to our expectations and be the bestest rhythm game for more decades
got some bad news for you lol
@@nm3004 what happened? (the mapping drama maybe?)
@@-wokhead because of the new slider acc, they are nerfing all classic scores because they're "easier", so they will all be able to be sniped easily and there basically won't be classic scores on the main leaderboard at all after a few months. now you'll be able to beat someone's score just because you're on a new client.
@@nm3004 Good things don't come without sacrifice. Adding acc to sliders has been overdue for a long time, and it is only fair that it will affect older scores as well.
@@rodjaknenad6984 can't say that it's fair tbh. People knew slider acc doesnt matter and adapted their playstyles for over than a decade. You can't punish people for missing something they didnt know was going to happen
If I'm gonna be honest, copyright is complete bullshit, sure, not as much would've made music or movies if it wasn't protected but in some scale it should be flexible
why is lost umbrella on the shit maps side 💀
Didn't realized that osu is that old. I started playing when I was 16 yo and that was 15 years ago. Still a great game.
25% of osu! may never die the other 75% is already dead
the way he says negative
Been playing osu! on and off for 12 years, yup it's still fun
7:06 who did that lmao, it's all of us here
I know nothing about this but i found osu in my school's computer and i am solving a case who could have put it and what it is I also found many anime arts .i was making java programs and now i am here
i cannot forgive mathexpert... THEY CALLED PIPPI A LOLI WWWWWWWWWWWRRRRRRRRRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
osu can only die when theres no more new music for people to make beatmaps of
the immortal game
Really good video, but the title is a still a bit clickbaity since people clicked to see why osu should be dead but you never introduced a reason. It's more like "Why osu! is so popular"
yo the script for this video was really well written, good video man
3:40 i have actually played osu! and i have never heard of any of them
Anyone remember Clickbeat?
Before I started playing osu the first osu players I heard of were whitecat, cookiezi and fun orange, I mainly watched fun orange videos which were what got me into playing osu in the first place
Except it’s not it’s one of those games that don’t die and constantly get new players
"it's such a competitive game that the majority of people would rather play on stable"
**cries in macbook user**
When I downloaded Osu I didn’t think I’d be selling my soul
sekarang beatmap tidak ada yang gampang ( T_T)
Any community driven game should never die like skyrim with their modding community keeping the game alive.
ok one thing is for sure, its not
The fact that i can watch a discord stream bumy someone named skibidi ohio ranked in 130th (not kidding pps check)
4:57 the what?
5:10 the man who clicked the circle
Tbh, his fetish isn't even that weird, considering other "weird" weird fetishes.
Great Video
as a pyro watcher i agree, he's wierd....
i dont know if you know assetto corsa its a racing game that because of community mods is still active to this day. I think osu is desame because of community beatmaps, there is always free new content
I just like clicking circles
You could say the same about geometry dash. Only just got an update after 8 years
you a real one for not watching anime
osu! lazer is laging in my old ass laptop.help me...................................
osu! becomes geometry dash
lock in
its probably not dead because its free and its basically 4 games in 1
Idk man i just click circles
even gr ooo mers are lot in osu man...
It is similar to how Geometry Dash should also be dead, but it is currently at its highest player peak ever despite not having an update for almost 7 years.
But Geometry dash isn't a rythm game
noway@GoofyDogy
im sorry
BECAUSE IT IS MY DRUG AND MY LIFE
real
osu! is not free-to-play, osu! is free.
spoiler alert its not dying anytime soon
Did u just say at 1:08 that map like harumachi are good but map like lost umbrella are bad ?
yeah i was joking lol
imagin beimg the same age as to number 1 Osu player only to be crap at 5* map xD couldn't be me
3:03 🎉🎉
osu mania 👍
lol imagine you had to pay for osu skins...
why is the osu community so hated?
Weeb game
Because there’s a vocal Old Guard that doesn’t want it to stop being a weeb game
@@aidenmcknight2884 well then
Open the game and look at the map art for a good idea as to why. I love osu as a game but the community might be the most degenerate community I’ve ever seen across any medium.
@@G4Dropped I really dont think you know communities
I just quit osu after peaking at 3 digit recently, because I realized that the game has nothing for me to offer anymore.
I only play osu now to play songs I really enjoy listening to.
That's just any video game though
poggers video
Phd in Yapology
funny to me when you say osu! has a positive community, completely false omg.
Bros "community" is twitter, that's really the only place where you'll find complete negativity. The community is chill unless you seek out negativity and most of the negative stuff is just petty shit blown out of proportion.
literally in #osu in the game its even toxic, i dont even use twitter lmaoaoaoo@@arynosu
@@eibmaI personally think the arcade rg community is pretty chill on twitter surprisingly
it is dead
