    Unwarranted medical fact: rabies has been known to have an incubation period of up to a year. One of the most famous possible cases being Edgar Allen Poe who has been diagnosed posthumously with rabies by multitudes of doctors (his case is one of those used in med school to teach how to diagnose patients).

    • @OlagGan
      @OlagGan 5 лет назад +11

      Actually no one really knows how Edgar Allan Poe died. It has been thought to be anything from drinking. Drugs, to syphillis and some form of brain infection (something akin to rabies, or similar. I believe even a Brain tumor was suspected)

    • @cwgodzilla
      @cwgodzilla 4 года назад +15

      Actually actually, Poe had been bitten by a vampire and contracted vampirism, but he was a total goth and thought vampires were total posers, and rather than become one, he waited for the sun to rise and kill him.

      Not to mention, the real symptoms of rabies are far more terrifying. A simple headache, then a fever, paranoia, an irrational terror of water no matter how thirsty you become, loss of coordination, dementia, and death within a week of the first symptoms. It can't be detected in a blood test, there's no treatment, and it's entirely lethal. The poor person probably never finds out what's happening to them. One of the first things you forget are your family and friends, so you can't say goodbye.

    Rabies makes humans delirious, not necessarily violent... but whatever, that's the least of this movie's problems. Also what always strikes me about movies likes this and 28 days Later is the infected, supposedly completely out of control insane people never attack EACH OTHER. Do they carry infected people union cards or something?

    I can watch this movie over and over. It's a blast and the synth score is awesome and bizarre. The performances are bad, ok, but they're never boring... and I'm way in love with the blond with the long hair and the magic eyes. She was also in Cat People and Romero's The Crazies.
    For some reason, it's always been considered a lot more gory than it actually is, just cause it's so sleazy.
    I loved your wrap-up at the end about the expectations of the audience. Couldn't agree more. This movie is a trash classic and a prime example of why I have no patience for modern-day, over-produced, under-delivering horror movies. You know the ones. You can usually spot the poster at the theater with the whole cast standing side by side looking ultra-serous and brooding.

    Probably what would happen if Herschel Gordon Lewis crossed the plot of Stephen King's CUJO with David Cronenberg's RABID and set it in a DELIVERANCE-type scenario - not really that well developed, but it more than makes up for those things with blood, sex, nudity and good old fashioned midnight cult gatherings. Nice to see that SHIVERS and THE CRAZIES hot chick Lynn Lowry was in this one - I'm a fan of her work, and she has gone on to do her own night club act with covers of jazz tunes from the 40's and 50's! I read that grindhouse movies became popular in the seventies as drive-in theaters started going out of fashion. So, apparently, most grindhouse movies were made for drive-in theaters.

    okay, so the wizard of oz and pink floyd's dark side of the moon reference goes back to the urban legend that if you play the album while watching the movie, the music syncs with what's going on onscreen.

    Another plot hole, not that it matters, is that it's very unlikely tainted meat would cause rabies. Stomach acid is a hell of a thing. Unless you had a cut in your mouth or some other way to get the virus directly into the muscle cells, it's not happening. Heck, lots of people drink various venoms for various cultural reasons without any apparent ill effects.
    One thing the movie did get right, likely unintentionally; it is theoretically possible for rabies to act as an STD, as it appears in sperm and vaginal secretions. There's only been a handful of recorded cases of human-to-human transmission, though, and those all occurred via the transplantation of infected organs, so as for sexual transmission, it's all hypothetical.

    Dude, you totally rock!
    You're the kind of guy who I would get wasted with at an afterparty once the bars close...
    Most of my friends are musicians or artists or freaks in general, but you are in a class by yourself!
    You crack me up! I know I've said it before, but you are f-ing hilarious!
    Keep up the great work!
    Know that there is no one else I can watch who can make me laugh out loud during the witching hour while enjoying the devil's lettuce while hearing about the Sons And Daughters Of Satan quite like you.
    You're the best!
    Don't ever change or lose your golden sense of humor!
    Best to you-

    I love on the DVD audio commentary director explained that Lynn Lowry (pretty mute girl) came to set with someone long after production was already started, and he and some other crew members thought she was gorgeous and had that innocent look to her, so they decided to put her in the movie because, well, everyone loves pretty girl and they thought this would help sell the movie. This is the reason why she's mute in the movie, because she was added into movie scenes after production has already began and lot of scenes were already filmed.

    Well, rabies is actually untreatable, with a near 100% fatality rate. Rabies is also almost impossible for a human to catch from an animal bite, which is why humans don't die from rabies animal bites, unless you are one of the unluckiest people on the planet. Unfortunately, dogs and cats don't have our immunity to rabies, so are in great danger from a rabid animal.
