Love these lectures...but your live audience is increasingly hijacking your presentations. ...gotta have them wait till the end for comments and questions. Or...'teach a man to fish' and show them how to podcast/youtube for themselves. Good work tho! Really nice to find a thought/reason embracing group of folks. Thank you from rural Ozark, MO.
I have nothing against interacting with an audience in principle, but for a video presentation, it really gets in the way. I suppose I wouldn't mind so much if I found the audience opinions interesting, but I just don't.
I actually like it a lot! It feels like we are welcomed into their home and discussions, and I find that to go along well with the overall message of welcoming into community and joint creation of meaning. I also think they very often have interesting additions, and if not, I think it is interesting to see the lecturer react to it. There probably are 5min videos with animations if all that is to be achieved is to gain knowledge as quick as possible.
Although I always enjoy how inclusive and loving he is with his congregation, on this one, I keep thinking how much more powerful it would be if they held the conversation and comments that began with, "I was just thinking..." until the end. Then the moderator stepped in and suggested they hold the conversation. Talk about good timing! :-)
I agree with saving questions to the end or have a break in the middle It can be quite distracting and I get sidetracked quick enough on my own Thank you for the last dozen utube videos I'm learning at age 59 that one should never stop!! This one answered some questions from 20 years ago I appreciate you Lala
at 4:00 minutes he sends the 10 to the priest because only they had to authority decide if a leper was considered healed before entering the temple or leaving quarantined areas
To get the Placebo Effect to work, and actually heal people, they had to believe. So, the historical Jesus may never have claimed miracles (Thomas etc.) but the Placebo Effect would work much better if there were stories about miracles that preceded his arrival. The Signs Gospel is probably that collection.
@@manicsurfing It's a little known fact, that you can check for yourself, that if you highlight everywhere "light" and "sign" show up in GJohn, for the first 12 chapters, it's either one or the other, never both. It's one chapter, or half-chapter of one, than a chapter or half-chapter of the other. Completely segregated. Then, after chapter 12, these all important concepts, are virtually never mentioned again. There are of course, other matching patterns, such as virtually no parallels to the Synoptic sayings before 12, but marching in lockstep with Mark afterwards. Unlike the others, GJohn is clearly several gospels stitched together.
You mentioned that the "Jesus...wrought surprising feats" line was "potentially uncontaminated." That line appears in the portion of Antiquities known as the Testimonium Flavianum, which has been identified as a pseudepigraph, by overwhelming scholarly concensus.
def says he is in the realm of spirtual healing... "laying on of hands" just gives more feeling to what might be also called "a blessing" given to a suffering person imho similar to the Imposition of Ashes on the forehead, or touching the top of someone's head when confirmed,
I knew that 3rd axis was coming. Uh, err, blood letting is exactly the treatment for hereditary hemochromatosis. With regard to the first are last and last are first. These sayings are often part of the prelude to the discussion in inner seeking. This idea of “the poor” was to get rid of the distractions to the esoteric mysticism that he was preaching. So potentially this has multiple meanings. Moreover the other meaning is give all you have to the poor to make yourself clean so that you will be first when the kingdom of heaven comes upon Earth. The so called not feeling the sting of death when judgement day comes.
Doesn’t the oldest existing Bible have images of Jesus? I’ve heard conflicting time frames for it but it’s certainly closer to the time Jesus then the guess work of scholars. Isn’t that how scriptures were lost as well… someone guessing. Bet the were scholars too. Trying to explain things better yet it’s by their interpretation. The cycle of life… those who broadcast opinions are just like the gods believing they are the one true god. As above so below… we can’t help ourselves 🥺
14:40 - Actually, Jesus was said to have had his beard shaved off by the Romans right before execution. It was a form of humiliation for the cultures that wore beards. The Romans would also frequently crucify people naked - to rob them of dignity. This is why so much Medieval art shows Jesus having a beard again after resurrection - his body is now made whole again. (And why a mere loincloth covers him...minimal dignity for his depiction, alluding to a naked crucifixion in real life.) CS Lewis, in _The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe_ recreates the shaved thing for Aslan when he is executed by the Witch. (Aslan represents Jesus.) She declares "Let him first, be shaved!" Next goblins and demons pounce on him, and his mane is removed. The jeering devils mock him "well, without a mane, the lion looks like a big pussycat!" Aslan is resurrected - complete with mane. Fascinating lectures, as always. Mad respect.

Excellent lecture, John. Correlation is not causal is a great point.
I love these lectures AND I love the commentary. I wish you would have included the discussion yall had at the end. Thank you 🙏
I would t mind the questions but you only have a limited time before the next show. So the questions are not letting you cover all the material .
So cool that he quoted Monty Python.
Unique and interesting topic. Thanks.
I really love the 4th Century beardless Jesus with the staff. It's easily my favorite depiction of him.
at 4:00 minutes he sends the 10 to the priest because only they had to authority decide if a leper was considered healed before entering the temple or leaving quarantined areas
Would love for questions to be put at end. It ruins the flow of lecture.
Whoah! Voice of god! 13:49

Disappointing to find out he is a faith healer. Seemed like a nice guy.

The "faith healing" that his denomination does is more like a blessing than anything else. I mean, he literally explains it in the lecture.
Told if u give food to poor it can help, like many black children hunger in africa country, u can give money and not be dick, save pizza and eat green
