In one breath they say it's not listening to you. Then in the next they say it can be activated by voice. I wonder, How is it suppose to detect your voice if it's not always listening?
Active listening is different, works kind of like an Alexa, Amazon claims it only starts actively listening when it hears its “wake word”

I really like the fact that it can translate from your language to another language, especially if you go on a trip overseas, it would make a big difference if you don’t understand the language of the person you’re speaking with. This could help many blind people as well, and it’s very portable. 9:41

One problem I HATE talking and then listening! Feels like it requires more energy and attention from me but what is most annoying is I can't do multiple things at once if i have to stop to speak and then listen. Maybe if i can speed up the speach responses but still would rather read. I absolutely LOVE typing and then reading!
Rather than trying to replace the smart phone I think a better option would be for this to pair with your smartphone that way you can integrate apps with it etc

It would be cool if these could act as an assistant when reading a book in that they could scan the printed page and then process the text and then project info back on that page. Thus it could make a printed book have many of the feature of an e book while maintaining the advantages of having a printed book as well.
For example say the book has an abbreviation or anacronym such as UMW and one could ask it, what does UMWA here stand for and it could answer UMWA is an abbreviation for United Mine Workers of America.
And then one could ask it to tell you a bit more about that before reading on.
Also one could also add bookmarks and comments via that device

The problem was the launch video, it didn't market it well. They should've focused on the hands free element. It's also confusing that they say it isn't always listening, yet when he took some almonds and asked how much protein, it knew. So it did activate and was monitoring..however would it have known he was talking to it?
I would've scrapped the projector and focused on the fact, this is a device that allows you to be hands free and be more human. You can look into someones eyes, hold their hands and talk to them, even if they don't know your language..without lifting a phone or an app.
You could've shown a parent enjoying their kids match, without seeing it through the screen of a mobile phone. Just enjoy the moment and let the AI automatically record, and hands free, allowing you to have no distractions etc..
These were the things they should've focused on and highlighted. The seperator to a smart watch or a smart phone with wireless earphones.

You are right@@Psycho_in_Love . I do see a lot of instances where people will forget and it makes more sense to make it "always on". Who will press the button before eating and go "i'm eating" to ensure it monitors the calories? I do think this has an opportunity to be an "hands off assistant" that can be part of your life, recording, helping you etc, but needs more work. It also seems slow with response times. Would it work without a sim card? It needs internet. I see delay in getting answers etc

Be careful! The machines are taking over. And one day, as illustrated in the E.M. Forster short story (written in 1909), "The Machine" might demand we worship "The Machine" as a God. Then again, some people seem to be doing that already! I, on the other hand, refuse to embrace this kind of technology. And although I might lose a bit of convenience in every day life, I do still have full control over my freedom and privacy. (I don't use a smartphone, smart TV, Zoomba, Alexa or any other "smart" appliance; I use a desktop computer, connecting to the internet via ethernet cable, not WiFi, while my keyboard and mouse are hardwired via USB cable to my computer. I also drive a car from the 90s and will always stay as far away from self-driving cars as I can because, the AI controlling those cars could, one day, decide themselves that your life is expandable "for the greater good". No thanks.)
There definitely is a big delay as well on getting responses, especially when browsing the web. You can see they tried to mask this by allowing the cohost speak in between. So would people wait for this, or just use their phone which is faster? If they can work on this, it would help.
I don't know how the phone would be faster, you'd still have to take the time to use your meatsticks to input the question.
@@michaelsutherland5848 what I mean slow is the response by the AI. You could take your phone out and ask “hey Google” or “hey siri” and the response is faster than what is presented here. Notice how the host had to interject and say something to not make the delay as evident, and after she spoke the Ai came in with the answer. The phone isn’t this slow. This is an issue but can be ironed out with future versions and updates but will the first adoptions be okay with it. I can see reviewers going after it

The problem is, a smart phone marker can literally improve their “Google assistant” or “Siri” with wireless headphones and boom, this becomes a bit redundant. As users are used to carrying their phones, using the headphones and microphone to control the phone will do what this device does. This is why it is key to have a problem as close to perfect when launch. It’s why the iPhone was such a success, it wasn’t a prototype with half baked promises.
What's crazy is years ago we had North Focals for $999, which were wearable glasses with full color displays indistinguishable from regular glasses. Those could do almost everything these could, and the second version was going to have a camera, so it really could do everything. Then Google bought them out and bricked everyone's devices. Still looks like very interesting technology. I wonder if they can avoid using so many voice commands, that seems to be the main issue. Maybe they can figure out a good way to predict intent through the context and gestures. I don't see what it has over a phone app with the same features, besides being more immediately accessible.
This is why devices should not depend on external servers, or of they do you should be able to run your own server.
It’s just a new gimmick to get customers and money I only see it good for people with disabilities. I see what you mean but I feel like you would need multiple or a bigger camera for it to be function correctly ( the apple Mr headset ) is what people want but it’s expensive
@@H8RSAPPRECIATE The gesture control should work. Google's MediaPipe model can do 2D hand tracking with a single camera and that would be adequate. I think the main constraint is the processing power/latency trade off: it would be hard to have something that small run hand tracking at fast speeds without getting hot and there's latency doing it externally. Something like a Coral is around the same size though and can run MediaPipe models pretty fast, so maybe it's possible. The vision pro does super fast high accuracy on-board 3D tracking, which would be great but I think most of the gestures could be recognized with 2D hand tracking (since it's only used for gestures the accuracy isn't needed which is a main reason for the complex sensor setup).
@@ImmacHn It's not always bad to run things on external servers. They're often significantly more cost effective since they have fewer constraints (cooling, form factor, durability, etc) and they can be fully utilized (an onboard processor might only be used for a fraction of the time since the device's features are only used that much). They definitely have trade offs like the latency, required connection, and privacy though.

and BTW, I can't help but question the authenticity of internet comments today. We all know what GPT is capable of especially when fine tuned on billions of examples of public comments on Reddit etc. I've already noticed two completely AI generated Instagram accounts with a large following, and hundreds of comments nonethewiser. I'm scared for the future, and AI products like this pushing surveillance make me terrified. Apologies, my frustration was misdirected at you.
I think that this tech isn't going to take over smartphones anytime soon. But if something's gonna do it, it's probably the Xreal Air Pro glasses. They're pretty cool, especially since they're giant screens built right into glasses and can even turn into sunglasses with their new electrochromic lens. What they're missing right now are cameras that can handle 3D stuff and understand gestures. map your surroundings and 3d envirments to enhance the AR/ XR experience and If they can get something like what Meta's doing with Oculus and ray bands, like those fancy cameras, then these glasses could really be a game changer. Just imagine, once they pack all these features into the glasses, who needs a phone anymore, right? It'd be a huge leap for VR and AR glasses. And hey, what if they put in some kind of smart AI assistant in the glasses, like a chatbot that pops up info right on your lens? That would be like having something out of Iron Man, like those cool glasses Tony Stark has. Honestly, these Xreal air pro glasses have got some serious potential to be just like that. and I'm excited to see their next iteration of the glasses and I hope I can get a pair soon so I can review them.
Everysight already has the chatbot feature using Chat GPT 4 on their Maverick AR sunglasses, but they are only selling the developer kit at the moment and it doesn't come with many applications or the ability to install them (unless you load your own app that you made onto them, but that only works for your pair.) It should have more in the coming months.

That is a neat idea and probably not far off from the future but that projector that displays in your hand needs to have some serious developments for us to replace smartphones. It will be interesting to see how the other companies copy this.

Cool tech but it isn't going to replace the smartphone for very many people for a fair while. I'm also not convinced it currently even has all the functionality they portrayed in the video (but it might).
My primary uses of my smartphone are:
1. There is a particular app on my smartphone which I use to complete authentication at work. This simply would not work with that app.
2. Phone calls. It should be able to handle that task just fine.
3. Camera - photos of a granddaughter. Also, showing her videos.
4. Using Samsung Notes to let my Granddaughter draw stuff.
It simply isn't going to do what I need done in the short term. It will probably never satisfactorily do the camera/video thing unless they pair it with a screen (hand-held or glasses) - without the screen you can't know that you are framing properly.
The interface looks cool but some people are going to have issues.
1. If you have tremors or are walking while you are using your hand to control a function? Yeah, you may have some issues.
2. If you are trying to control it by talking to it? In restaurants, many work situations, etc. you won't be the welcome person. Heck, voice recognition can be a bit iffy in a noisy environment so you could end up with the thing doing what it is not supposed to do.
I still think it is cool tech in an urban environment under the right circumstances. Some day I might even get one myself but it is not likely that it will replace my smartphone but simply supplement it.
Make it work nicely with a smart watch (I use a Samsung) and from my perspective the usefulness improves. The idea is to leverage the screen which likely adopters are already carrying and the Bluetooth system for limited purposes is already in the pin. I'd note, however, that for me the screen is sufficiently important that I got the Z-Fold 5. . . I'm sure there are others for whom the screen is not so important.
One other thing? Marketing will work well with people who are technologically quite proficient. But if you want to sell a lot of units of something?:
If your product is familiar, make it superior.
If your product is superior, make it familiar.
This product is superior in some respects (for my use inferior in most) but it isn't really very familiar. It may be difficult to sell a lot of them for a while assuming it all works as intended.
It would be wise to add more gesture commends for the deaf/mute for more beneficial features

Dude what you are asking for is going require an entirely different device with an entirely different way to interact with it. It would invalidate a lot of the feature it has. Plus this isn't even out of the market yet. An early stage prototype for early adopters/tech enthusiast. We are not even sure that if its going to be a hit or flop

It would not require an "entirely different product" to capture that additional functionality. Bluetooth solutions already exist for exactly that functionality.

No no I wear a device to hear which bypasses the air using bluetooth tech that lets me stream all day. This is now very common hearing aid tech. No need to stick with smart phones.

Hmmm pretty amazing tech! So far I see it more as a hands free smart watch (companion) to your main phone. I guess it would just come down to adapting to the system. So would the projector show us yourube videos and/ or video calls?
Exactly my thoughts. And I don’t wanna watch it in black-and-white or that green color. Also, how are we supposed to see the pictures that we took for videos that we take with the device? This is definitely not a standalone or a smartphone replacement- at least not yet. It’s good to see the innovation at work.

I love the idea of this device. AI connected, instant translation (great for business and work), instant witness and documentation. It won't replace the smartphone, but it might be a just as useful augmentation as the smart watch (especially for professionals and accountability purposes).
I think it's a great idea, I suspect the screens are causing us to lose focus with all the information overload. Just talking to a little pin and having it do the screen time for you is a great way to stay focused, possibly.

There are still too many practical features where you need a basic smartphone. In my city, it's almost impossible to use public transportation without a display. Banking services, online shopping, and other services require electronic identification using specific banking apps, not just SMS confirmation. Email, messaging apps, maps, and navigation work much more efficiently with a display. Phone addiction is undoubtedly a significant problem, but I can't see this product as a comprehensive solution to balance between addiction and practicality.

Your post is just 'old man yells at clouds' with more steps. I'm sick of your brand of declinism, develop better epistemological tools so you can view the world more objectively.
That will require massive storage. Cloud tech can cover that part. For privacy (of others atleast), the camera should be covered with a slider or something and slid open only when actively taking photos or where looking at objects is required.
I wouldn't mind it using my personal data for my personal use/ recommendations etc. but I definitely wouldn't want random users of this product taking my pictures/ videos while I'm walking by, for instance.

This is amazing, as they improve over time it will replace your phone. I respect how they are making it simple. Whilst i use a smart phone i like how intuitstive the AI is so you dont have to look at your phone and task can be done quicker and natural. Very fluid.

Yeah VR is an entirely different technology but AR is more practical and we will definitely be seeing more of it in future tech.
This product will encounter various issues.
1. Privacy Concerns, the constant recording.
2. Security Risks, unauthorized individuals can mimic your voice with AI.
3. Dependency on Voice, If the device malfunctions or encounters issues with voice recognition, it could impede its functionality.
4. Limited Display Size, the size and clarity can become a problem for some individuals.
5. Social Acceptance: Wearing a recording device at all times may raise social acceptance issues, considering increasing concerns about privacy in public spaces.
Conclusión.
This product showcases innovation with its AI integration, but potential privacy issues, security risks, and the device's dependency on voice raise concerns. For me the privacy and security issue are the biggest.

How will you view the photos & watched videos?
I mean, I’ve wanted something like this for years, since the first pico projectors were shown off in tech demos. But this is only a half step to that dream.
For a screen less smartphone, how do you view your photos and videos? So you have this device which takes pics and videos but you need a separate device to view them? And if you’re out and about that separate device would be a smartphone?… in which case, why do you need a separate data plan? Why not just connect it to your phone which you apparently still need to have to view photos and videos? And what do you use for gps? Can this device show you a map? I mean we don’t rely solely on voice navigation, especially when walking, you NEED to see the map from time to time.
My dream is for a true screen less smartphone, with a scalable colour projector that can show you basic, standard definition on your hand, but then when you stand in front of or are at a flat surface, it can project a real interactive UI and higher quality visuals.
This is overpriced for what it offers in my opinion. And trying to lock you down into a contract with a cellular service provider really puts me off. Hopefully though this is a step in the right direction.
This is just phenomenal! And with endless possibilities, if it gets upgrades in upcoming times, it might just wipe out hand carry phone in few decades. Everything is possible now.

I like this and truly want them to find a lane and make a impact. My issue is, the voice assistant slow to speak. For example when I use a browser, I can read 3 sentences in a blink of an eye and get my answer, before the page even fully loads.
With this I have to wait. Visual text really is one of the best forms of communication and information sharing.
Also I use my phone to store pdfs and read books. How will I use this for that.
This with AR glasses will likely be the best option

I see this more as an accessory to the phone. You just can't use this in a crowded room. I have an Amazon Dot and its use is limited at home. I find the Echo (has screen) more useful. People love texting and watching videos which can't be done with this device.
But does it have a keyboard for writing and texting?

It's a neat form-factor and idea. Also, it was refreshing to see an edge AI/tinyML based product.
It will never replace mobiles, but just like smartwatches these can be a great extensions for them and can do way more. Although one could argue that you can make a better smartwatch with similar ai capabilities and camera
Smartwatches are lame tbh. The only reason I have one is because someone gave it to me, and I always forget to charge it it's more of a nuisance than anything.

@@RazaPlaysGames I see. But the gestures that he showed during the demo are also available in the latest iteration of smartwatches from Samsung and Apple. They have the standard branded AI assistant as well. The only thing missing is a camera in the smartwatches :-)

The translation function is cool, I can see that being used by travelers. One drawback is people able to listen in as it dictates your messages etc. unless there's a headphones capability so there's some privacy. With IG, FB, Tictoc where people share videos/pictures etc. the lack of something visual makes this device more like an auxiliary rather an a complete replacement of smartphones. Nonetheless pretty cool device but still got a long way to go before it completely replace smartphones.

5:48 yes there's headphone capability. I agree they still have a long way to go, but this is a good start. Just not to replace a smartphone. Upgrades to the camera, laser, more app integration-will make this worth while. Maybe a partnership with Apple? Or another major? An alliance for software or distribution. Still keep their name. It just needs to be stamped.. I don't know, we need more convincing. We'll see how much they sell next year. They got my attention.

I think you need a little imagination to fill in the gaps of what using it will be like (since they didnt really demo how it will work irl well)
The only problem with the technology is taking you out of the current moment, let say you are talking with a friend and you want to send a message or check something, with screens you can do both, but with this you have to excuse yourself and stop for a moment, moving away from noise or wear a headphone just to do a simple task like messaging someone or replying to an urgent message
I think with this you will have little to no screen time literally. So it makes up for it. Also forces you to be more intentional

This product is good. But I prefer a wearable watch that has AI capabilities.
Watch has its limitations when it's stuck to your wrist. Pin gives more physical presence how you normally are and less physical interaction

Voice activated utilities and voice command application can be tricky. In reality, the device might translate your voice wrong. And as the result, doing the wrong thing that you didn't ask. That's why AI isn't always the best choice. But nowadays, everything uses AI.
