Unfortunately, due to the structure of our ENGL 1101 course, we cannot post more reactions this semester. Perhaps future courses will react to more content. As is written on the board, "Subscribe for stellar, annual reaction videos." For more information regarding the context/content of this course, please see below the "Read More." Remember everyone: keep hoping for more good days. - Course Instructor MORE DETAILED DISCUSSION: This is a composition class at a university and the course emphasizes different composing modes (written, oral, visual, electronic, nonverbal, etc.). Students learn about rhetoric, rhetorical situations, genres and genres conventions, audiences, and aspects of the class theme, convergence culture. The course theme ("convergence culture") allows students to approach different composing tasks (often with a media component) from the perspective of "fandom." That is, different parts of the course emphasize different elements of fandom. Topics such as “participatory culture,” “knowledge communities,” “transmedia storytelling,” and “transformative works” are approached through source media such as BTS, Star Wars, Marvel, and Harry Potter. Through the theme, students develop their skills in critical text analysis and production. In this case, they analyze the BTS music videos’ transmedia storytelling and considered how that transmedia storytelling is engaged by various knowledge communities creating a “participatory culture” by “making meaning.” (Essentially, how the theories keep the fandom actively thinking and engaged with BTS's music. Big Hit's team does this extremely well, and so BTS is a good example.) In terms of learning outcomes, students take theory, apply it analytically, then clearly articulate their thoughts regarding how the different modes were utilized by the Big Hit production team and how that inspired conversation within the fandom. (As an ARMY, I recognize the way that the fandom is "activated" through circulation between various media platforms and how the storytelling of BTS's discography [including songs and MVs] continuously cultivates conversation within the fandom.) As for this reaction video, we discuss genre, circulation, and distribution. Essentially, how fandoms circulate content across media platforms and how that ultimately impacts the creation and distribution of texts in today’s world. “Reaction videos” have certain genre conventions. That is to say that there are elements that you see in a vast majority of reaction videos-- camera angles, tones, lighting, even backgrounds. Together, we watched several reaction videos and put our observations into action by creating our own reaction video. (Just as students might do in the future when creating other texts within their respective fields.) Students chose different elements of the reaction video genre to opt-into and opt-out-of, which we thought would impact the circulation of the reaction video. Students will analyze the data provided by RUclips to see how our adherence to or departure from convention impacted the way the media circulated. (This is meant to put theory into actual practice.) Essentially, these activities are meant to cultivate skills and knowledges, which would then help students to explore topics critically within their particular disciplines as they advance further in their studies. As an instructor, I hope that the course provides building blocks on which they can further their understandings of modes and media, rhetoric, and audience. Thank you for your interest!
This is so amazing! I wish you could make it into a recurring series! I would love to see how these students learn more about BTS and their art~(especially the HYYH series) I really wish I could take this class! Haha😂💜
I love the guy in the front with the blue shirt and glasses coz he reminds me of myself when my teacher was going to show us some international music videos and she suddenly played BTS' DNA and I was silently praying that no one would laugh at it. But in the end everyone said mean stuffs like they looked like girls. :(

Nikki I actually have those desks in my class. And contrary to popular belief, they are actually very uncomfortable to sit on considering you have only one way to get in to sit and very little desktop space for laptop and journals. And although the rolling part might be nice when it comes to group work the hard part is that the desk top actually moves forward too and it’s very inconvenient when you lean forward to write/type something and the desk moves away from you too.

The girl in the orange in the back was really feeling namjoon lol at the beginning after his part she looked shook and then told her friend something and then later on when the teacher asked she goes "that blue eyed one"😂😂 that's what he deserves!!
It is very common that some gentlemen from reaction videos intentionally being silly at first because they are jealousy. But the quality of video and skills of BTS lay them down and make them to respect BTS. Not just this video but most of people who watch BTS video first time.
This is why BTS is amazing especially Namjoon. Namjoon is an intellectual. He loves reading books and uses those as inspiration along with his experiences when writing songs. Thank you for spreading bts's message through english class.
I hope they look into the cultural refs and lyrics now that they've seen the MV. I love how so many of them had heard of BTS beforehand tho lol. I will say it was difficult to understand what the class was saying when they were speaking, audio was low.
The filters on Namjoon weren’t Snapchat, they were actually filters from the VLive app, which is an app for K-Pop idols to go live. There is a reason that he has the filters. When he was live he was looking the filters, a “fan” told him to stop using the filters so he said okay and apologized. Since the song and the album is about loving yourself and the lyrics for that part is, “I know what I am, I know what I want. I never gon’ to change, I never gon’ trade,” He’s saying that he can do what he wants, and he knows what he wants to do.

I love how some people like the video, but... Why are there so many triggered people? Y'all do realize laughter is used as a reaction when surprised or confused, right??? That, and some of these people may not be familiar with the K-pop fandom. Chill, and live with an open mind before you try to verbally stab somebody for "Daring to laugh at my oppa!", or whatever.
That dude in the front with the glasses in the navy blue tshirt was like oh shit they gonna play IDOL that's my jam I gotta keep it calm I can't let my ARMY self take over!
Thank you♥
Hi, ...You just made my day for some reason.. haha. But, I don't know if you're 100% serious, but, as you may probably already know.. Not all classrooms in America are like this.. (lol)-- The instructor is obviously a BTS Army.. (Sorry, I don't have a Korean keyboard setup.. haha).
Seeing this video makes me more excited about other ppl or country treacting to BTS first I thought they laughing because they didn’t like it but in the last part when the teacher ask if they know BTS they say “YES” w/ a big smile in their face....and they like BTS!!! And the teacher told the video will be release in this week meaning they saw it first in their place!!! Yeah!!! The teacher is an Army!!! Hahaha..
Oh my! This is fantastic! ARMYs could tell them about all the research and reading and thinking that goes into deciphering a BTS MV! Whether it is clues or hints for the BU story line or a hint for the name of the next album, or the next genre of music they will use, we have to figure it out. This is the most aggravating and the most fun thing ever.
They should definitely react to some of the mvs, short films, highlight reels, and prologue whilst reading books bts referenced a part would be cool to see how they react and interpret the situations through the videos
This is the thing I love about being famous is that it can bring people happiness and also if I were famous I would make sure to keep people happy all the time😍😍😍💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍
South Korean boy band BTS (Bangtan Boys/Bangtan Sonyeondan or "bulletproof boy scouts" in Korean) their name was explained by their company Big Hit Entertainment and stated that the name represents the group’s “against-the-social-norm-and-pressure” concept. As the “Bulletproof Scouts”, the members will fight against the societal “bullets” of stereotypes and repression to protect their values and music. BTS blend dance-oriented K-pop with hip-hop influences. They debuted on June 13, 2013 as a hiphop group but as time goes by they changed concept and tried different genre of music. Members: Stage Name: RM, his old stage name used to be Rap Monster (랩몬스터) Full Name: Kim Nam Joon (김남준) Position: Main Rapper, Leader, Producer Birthday: September 12, 1994 Stage Name: Jin (진) Full Name: Kim Seok Jin (김석진) Position: Vocalist, Visual Birthday: December 4, 1992 Stage Name: Suga (슈가) Full Name: Min Yoon Gi (민윤기) Position: Lead Rapper, Producer Birthday: March 9, 1993 Stage Name: J-Hope (제이홉) Full Name: Jung Ho Seok (정호석) Position: Lead Rapper, Main Dancer, Sub-vocalist Birthday: February 18, 1994 Stage Name: Jimin (지민) Full Name: Park Ji Min (박지민) Position: Lead Vocalist, Main Dancer Birthday: October 13, 1995 Stage Name: V (뷔) Full Name: Kim Tae Hyung (김태형) Position: Vocalist, 2nd Visual, Dancer Birthday: December 30, 1995 Stage Name: Jungkook (정국) Full Name: Jeon Jeong-guk (전정국) Position: Main Vocalist, Lead Dancer, Sub Rapper, Center, Maknae Birthday: September 1, 1997 The group members also produce, compose, and write their lyrics themselves. They talk about important things such as mental issues, woman empowerment, school, society, our generation, equality, about achieving your dreams etc. Combining love ballads and rapping with topical lyrics, BTS connected with similarly aged fans and set themselves apart from the K-pop industrial machine. Formed by producer Bang Si Hyuk, BTS debuted in 2013 with the first installment of their "School Trilogy" series, 2 Cool 4 Skool. A few months later, they released part two of the saga, the EP O!RUL8,2? The group's final installment, Skool Luv Affair, was released around Valentine's Day in 2014. Later that year, BTS released their full-length debut album, Dark & Wild, featuring the single "Danger." As their fan base grew and international tours sold out, they released The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 1 in April 2015 and the follow-up, Pt. 2, some months later in November. They embarked on a massive world tour as The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Pt. 2 topped a record-setting six international music charts, including Billboard's World Albums chart. After four weeks, they set a record as the first K-pop act to achieve such a feat. The group continued to break records with the release of its sophomore LP, Wings. Released in late 2016, Wings not only became the first BTS effort to debut atop both the Korean album and song charts, but BTS also became just the third K-pop act to land in the Canadian Hot 100. However, the album's impact was most apparent on the Billboard charts. The best showing to date for a K-pop act, Wings debuted in the Top 30 of the Billboard 200 -- both their highest U.S. chart debut and most sales to date -- becoming the first K-pop artists with three albums to enter the main album charts (Wings became their sixth Top Three hit -- and second number one -- on the World Albums chart). They also became the first K-pop act to spend four weeks on the charts. Wings continued the artistic and creative growth for the septet, featuring seven solo tracks that showcased the personality of each member. Four months later, BTS re-released the album as You Never Walk Alone. The updated version added four new songs to the original Wings track listing, including the singles "Spring Day" and "Not Today." With their presence in the United States continuing to expand, the group went on to win the Top Social Artist Award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. Their fifth EP, Love Yourself 'Her', arrived that September and became the first K-pop album to debut in the Billboard 200's Top Ten, entering the chart at number seven. BTS is from a small company that doesn't have any popular artists besides BTS. They were doubted, underestimated and belittled by other people telling they that they won't succeed but look at them now, they started out using their own staffs things (like cars) in their music videos and worked for almost two years with continuously having comebacks until they received their first win. But no one would have imagined that they'll blow up and reign the music charts with all kills, all of their track of the album charted winning a lot of awards which is probably due to their incredibly large international and national fan base. Shortly after taking home the top social artist award for the second year in a row Korean boy band BTS proved why they are the biggest boy band in the world with an epic performance on the 2018 Billboard Music Awards Sunday night (May 20). Superstar Korean boy band BTS' "Fake Love" launches at No. 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 2). Marking the first Hot 100 top 10 ever for a K-pop group. As previously reported, parent album Love Yourself: Tear debuts as BTS' first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, where it's also the first No. 1 for an album in the K-pop genre. *To fully understand what I am trying to talk about, I suggest you react to BTS 'Nobodies to Legends' 2013-2017. These types of reactions are so cool! It's too bad that the audio is hard to hear, I couldn't really hear any of their comments. But still! Also, this class seems really interesting.
Just this "IDOL" mv is worth at least 2-3 classes analyzing and a whole semester to analyze the whole series of LOVE YOURSELF album... But nice to see these reaction and spreading the love our boys....BTS... #ARMY here....

My teacher played kpop in class while we were doing work. When BTS came on I wanted to scream (ღ˘ω˘ღ)
the guy in front, twiddling his thumbs, he got that beat down flat from the first verse #musicalgenius
I literally love this series.
I love this teacher💜✌
크리스틴 ikr I wish she was teaching my class and play K-pop and bts for us everyday that would be so cool :D
I just saw you on a different bts video

I love how it started out with skepticism and uncomfortable laughter and evolved into smiles and head bops!
4:13 "I can do that part" THATS A MOOD
3:34 *the guy in the back is me honestly*
ARMYs : Scream 😲
Them: Laugh 😂
Necesito profesores así :'v
Thank u very much your react 🙏🙏🙏🙏 IDOL song really cool because dance African gwara gwara and korean dance traditional mix, and song instrumen from African mix instrumen traditional korean...👍👍👍👍👍 Multicultural traditional...

Bruh I wish all our test would be about BTS I would never fail
Same >_
*"K-pop more like k-bop"* i screamed ksksksks
I love how some people like the video, but...
Why are there so many triggered people?
Y'all do realize laughter is used as a reaction when surprised or confused, right???
That, and some of these people may not be familiar with the K-pop fandom.
Chill, and live with an open mind before you try to verbally stab somebody for "Daring to laugh at my oppa!", or whatever.
Honestly, this would be a perfect thing to show in an English class. There are so much symbolism, metaphors, and hidden messages to analyze 👌
i never thought y'all would post another reaction!!!! ah thank you for this
That dude in the front with the glasses in the navy blue tshirt was like oh shit they gonna play IDOL that's my jam I gotta keep it calm I can't let my ARMY self take over!
Thank you for this 💜 Love it!
Best English Teacher ever 😂😂👏🏻❤️
I imagine they react to BTS-Mic drop.. #IHope 😁😁
lol imagine filming a reaction to bts in class. dream come true.
Omg I started laughing so hard when bts sat down and then the dude said “I can do that part” 😂😂🤦🏻♀️
Thank you♥
Hi, ...You just made my day for some reason.. haha. But, I don't know if you're 100% serious, but, as you may probably already know.. Not all classrooms in America are like this.. (lol)-- The instructor is obviously a BTS Army.. (Sorry, I don't have a Korean keyboard setup.. haha).
I live in Georgia!!!! Makes me happy knowing people in my state are doing this! Love you guys and the video!!
Hahaha..
OMG the students are so mind blown
If I was in that class I would be totally screaming and fan girling😂❤
“The blue eyed one👌”.
They should definitely react to some of the mvs, short films, highlight reels, and prologue whilst reading books bts referenced a part would be cool to see how they react and interpret the situations through the videos
thank you guys for reacting "IDOL MV"..I hope you react for more videos of BTS...👍👍👍
If this in my class... **FANGIRLS MODE**
can we talk about the way the video starts and ends though? smooth af lmao
If i was there i would be screaming and singing along i wish my school was this
Wow this is sooooo great. The whole class really pay attention to the mv. 👏👏👏💜💜 ah love this 😍
This is the thing I love about being famous is that it can bring people happiness and also if I were famous I would make sure to keep people happy all the time😍😍😍💖💖💖👍👍👍👍👍
Don't forget about their lyrics.
*If I were there I swear I will be jumping on the table dancing like crazy.*

The group members also produce, compose, and write their lyrics themselves.
It's a video about how they worked hard to reach where they are now.*
PS. No need to cut and edit because BigHit doesn't do copyright. Just put the original video on the description box, TURN ON THE CC FOR ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

Oh I’d love to see more reactions from this class the one who is asking the class is really doing great 👍 i mean you not only introducing BTS but teaching them other culture and allowing then to have greater view of the world and the music itself.
The smiles! Love it

These types of reactions are so cool! It's too bad that the audio is hard to hear, I couldn't really hear any of their comments. But still! Also, this class seems really interesting.

I never imagined my life would become an obsession with Kpop and K-Dramas. They go together. I don’t watch American TV any longer or listen to American music. Can’t explain it. Going on four years. I am Army BTS.
I wish my english class had things like this, I would go to school everyday!
