We need Elm like that back here! We get American Elm and it is very stringy stuff, we just cringe when we hear the word. anyhow, thanks for another great video, we definitely appreciate all the love we have received from your subscribers as well!

I know it's overkill, but I bought one of Chris's big commercial 28 ton splitters over two years ago. After an old back injury came back to haunt, I could no longer use my old beam splitter without great pain, and I damn sure couldn't swing a maul more than a few times. I split all our firewood, usually in one or two different day sessions, and also help split the wood that some friends get off our farm each year. It has changed splitting from a task that i dreaded for the pain it caused me, to a day I fully enjoy in the woods. Wolfe Ridge makes one hell of a well built piece of equipment, and I don't regret a cent we spent on it.

Hi again Mike, in the UK April Fools Day ends at 12:00, so being an American I can not tell you how much fun I had at the expense of my British colleagues due to my belief I was exempt from the 12:00 rule, every year for 20 years at Volkswagen Group I got the same people! Melissa would have loved it.

We used to have a lot of elm trees here in upstate NY and burned a lot of it for heat. But I remember it being a lot stringyer ( if that's a word) and nearly impossible to split by hand! We didn't have a wood splitter in those days. Just needed a big door on the furnace!

Mike, great video showing the comparison of different hard woods. We have a lot of dead standing elm in the central part of PA where we live and your right, we don't mess with it. Too hard on saw chains and hard to split. Has a great heating quality and leaves little ash but not feasible to work with. Keep up the great videos Mike!

I don't know if that's the same type of elm we have here in Central WI. The stuff we have here is incredibly stringy, and the grain twists as it runs. The problem is most of our firewood these days is elm because it is all dying. I cut down a large elm last fall and bucked it into 12" lengths so I could split it w/ my maul (16+" would've been much more difficult). It would not split with the maul, you needed to use a wedge. Then another wedge. And often times you would stick a third wedge in because they would just get stuck in the stringy grain. After that tree, I swore I would never split another elm by hand again. That's when I started researching wood splitters, and stumbled upon your channel, amongst other resources. After much research, I ordered a Wolfe Ridge 35C. I look forward to getting my hands on that, and seeing what it can do with our stringy elm around here!

Never had a splitter - just a splitting maul and a chainsaw. I was lucky to live in a new log house near Raccoon creek state park (Beaver County, Pa) 4 + acres. Land appeared to have been timbered a while back. First grew the sumack (you know - worthless weed trees) then the black locust and the predominant tree still standing was maple. The maple overshadowed the locust and they died off / fell over at 4 to 6 inch. When I got there the locust were dead fall on the ground with the bark falling off. Best fire wood I ever burned - the wood dulled a chain and threw sparks when cutting. I burned this and split maple in a big-ol coalbroakdale Darby cast iron stove. The locust burned with a bright almost blue flame. I always wanted to try some anthracite hard coal but never got a chance. Well I am rambling Thanks for the videos and a glance at your family. Your a lucky bunch (lots of work too)

I fell for that green deal video , I almost blew a gasket lol i'm sure the elm is heavy too , that's a nice splitter saves a lot of time but it won't make you strong as splitting by hand , we heated for a season or two when i was a youngster and it's a lot of work gathering firewood even finding tree's to cut back then for my dad

Their wood or if a person hooked up with a tree service so they could sell the wood? I am not interested in having a bunch of wood stored in our yard but it does look fun to run one. Just wanted your thoughts.

Second thought to other heavy duty wood splitters might be a Timberwolf or Multitec or in Canada it would be Cord king or the newest is the Bell check out the youtube they posted it will split a tree lenght at a time . Maybe if you get to 40 cords maybe move to a woodprocessor , some nice one one units out there . Have a good on Mr. Morgan . hopeful not on the hate list . Still have 20 inches in the bush and the same on the golf course ( Osprey Links )

I'm watching you split the elm and I'm thinking "Wow! I've never had elm split that easily!" Then you say this elm splits easily. 🤣🤣 The old-time woodworkers who really understood wood would use elm in places they did not want the wood to split. For example... Seats on chairs. My daughter bought some chairs made out of spruce and the seats are all splitting. An elm seat would never split.
That's a great log splitter! I like how fast the piston is.
